Re: Glasgow Warriors v Munster Rugby, 25 October
I've mentioned the things that have been witnessed and reported by people at the game and on tv. If a Glasgow player has bitten someone then they deserve a ban but so far there has been no evidence apart from O'Callaghan claiming this.ME-109 wrote:And yet your own synopsis of the game is as idiotic as anything posted on here. I want to hear more about how JJ Hanrahan made a little kid cry. I think that will steer this 'debate' in an amusing direction.

Wonder why there was two Police officers interviewing two club officials at main entrance after the game, any connection to any of the incidents?

Just for the record, Niko Matawalu's jersey was ripped right across the front before the game finished.
The Ref said that the citing commissioner would look into the biting incident. But one thing is for sure, DOC was absolutely raging so I'm not surprised considering how the ref ignored the incident that he wanted to sort out the person who bit him.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Munster Rugby, 25 October
I watched this on ALBA and I must say I didn't see any foul play from Matawalu (other than the slightly petty flop on the Munster player in the in-goal area) so if he did commit an offence it must have been off camera.
What struck me about the game was how clinical Munster were in the 2nd half. They scored a great individual try and then put up a brick wall of a defence (it was the Munster defence that won this contest). Glasgow for me were full of guts and determination but weren't sharp enough in attack, and were wasteful in spurning those shots at goal between 60 - 70 minutes. They could easily have entered those last 10 minutes only a point behind, and yet continued to hammer away at the Munster try line to no avail. Cooler heads required from Glasgow.
Re: Munster running down the clock, whilst as a Scottish rugby fan it was frustrating, let's not pretend we would have done anything different had the roles been reversed. The scrum was a mess and Munster capitalised, but I blame the ref for losing control rather than Munster. Had Glasgow been 7 points ahead with a ref unable to even spell the word scrum, you can bet that Kellock et al would have done the same in order to win the game. "Whatever it takes" and all that.
Ultimately Munster were more streetwise.

Off the topic of cynical / foul play etc the sooner Peter Horne comes back the better. Really missing his creative spark in the centres.
Re: Glasgow Warriors v Munster Rugby, 25 October
Yea, munster defended with their lives. Made 146 tackles, missing 9. Glasgow 69/11. Peter O'Mahony made 19, missing none - in fact none of Munster's backrow missed a tackle.

O'Mahony is in astonishingly good form, and those statistics confirm my view as regards the Munster defence. That period between 60-70 minutes where Jonny Gray and Josh Strauss were hammering away and Munster didn't yield was absolutely key.

In that case, surely the key issue from the whole match is this expose into the poor quality of these Macron jerseys.Sin é wrote:Just for the record, Niko Matawalu's jersey was ripped right across the front before the game finished.

I heard from someone whose second cousin reported something about this and who might have seen it on tv so therefore i am going to make a completely hysterical somewhat informed comment on the state of the jerseys which were clearly at fault for all the goings on. In other words it was clearly Munsters fault..George Carlin wrote:In that case, surely the key issue from the whole match is this expose into the poor quality of these Macron jerseys.Sin é wrote:Just for the record, Niko Matawalu's jersey was ripped right across the front before the game finished.

See on twitter that Niko Matawalu and Conor Murray have both been cited. Matawalu for biting, Murray for striking with elbow.
Not exactly delighted with the timing of the Conor Murray citing, Reddan and Boss for Samoa doesn't float my boat... He can elbow people to his hearts content in December this isn't the week for it!

technically not for "foul play". disrepute only. which can be tough. but the fact foul play is mentioned means it must be during the match. unless they all agreed queensberry rules in the tunnel.TJ wrote:Can a punchup after the game be cited?

The foul play is a biting and an elbow. I just wondered why no mention of the punch up in the tunnel - altho none of us know how bad it was

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Munster Rugby, 25 October
I had a wee look back (not at the Murray incident) but for the bite. Got the ruck it must have been at but very difficult to see anything. I saw matawalu swinging the arm a bit later on (it was one of glasgows penalties in the munster 22) but it looked innocuous as he was being held and I don't think he connected.
Obviously it depends on severity of both incidents but you would imagine if both are proven matawalu could be in serious bother. I judge you all as Ulster sit proudly atop the Fair Play League

Scary thought here. If Niko is banned. Then who will Glasgow play at scrum half given that the AI's are in 2 weeks time and Cusiter & Pyrgos will be on Scotland duty
Re: Glasgow Warriors v Munster Rugby, 25 October
The elbow cited is Conor Murray on ( I think) Matowalo

Damn, I wish I'd perservered watching this game but I was getting too frustrated by the lack action by the ref against the constant Munster infringing in the first half hour so I switched off and deleted it. Sounds like I mised the excitement in the second half.

I saw the second half and it was pish. glasgow attacking and dropping the ball in the backs or endlessly recycling the ball to pass to a static forward who is tackled and repeat until bored or the ref whistles. Then watch Munster taking 17 minutes to set a scrum or lineout. repeat until bored or the ref whistles.ValleyBoyo wrote:Damn, I wish I'd perservered watching this game but I was getting too frustrated by the lack action by the ref against the constant Munster infringing in the first half hour so I switched off and deleted it. Glove, probably only one of Cusiter or Pyrgos will actually be in the Scotland matchday 23 so the other should be available, with Ali Price on the bench. This would always have been the case with Matawalu in the Fiji squad.
Like others, very disappointed in this game. Glasgow never looked like winning and the writing was on the wall when they battered the line when Munster were down to 14 and never came away with any points.

I would say Neds are a particular subset of Chavs - usually teenagers, who hang around the streets causing trouble.
We also have Educated Delinquents, who spraypaint walls with differential equations and quotes from Dostoyevsky whilst intimidating passers-by by challenging them to "street countdown" battles.

Ali Price is unfortunately out for most of the season, injured himself in the last pre season game I think. Think it was a knee injury.
Peter Jerecevich is registered as a Glasgow player for the Heineken cup so think he'll fill the bench role if Matawalu is banned.

Crap, i haven't seen Jericevich play but seems like we're scraping the barrel a bit then! I'll say it again, this is what we're left with regardless of the Matawalu verdict, since he is in the Fiji squad for the AIs, and Cusiter will probably be in the Scotland 23. Hope Jericevich is good!

Jerecevich is a pretty handy player, played for Scotland 7s and for the Scotland club team, think he is about 24, pretty short but pretty solid and has a good snipe about him and a quick pass about him. Is also a very good goal kicker. Think he has been lucky to miss out on a pro contract as would say he is better than a few of the 9s at Glasgow and Edinburgh in the past couple years.

Glasgow gets a bad rep - I think the fact that the young fellas wear socks over the trackies gives the place a more sinister edge but generally the chances of getting glassed in the chops are on par with most UK cities these days.

Even if Niko is not banned, he will miss the Dragons game as he is (for now) in the Fiji squad touring the NH.
I would imagine both Cusiter and Pygros will be available for Saturdays game.
Massive improvements required from the backs, who by and large this season have been poor.

Correct. However, having visited there since I was tiny and studied there for 4 years, I think that the poorer parts of Glasgow are rougher than the equivalent poorer parts of most other cities in the UK. Not a comment on the people at all, whom I love, but where it's hard, it's really really hard.

Glasgow is no worse thanmany cities and much safer than some - London for example. I just made a joke based on the "no mean city" reputation which is well out of date.

ooooh will this mean there will be some "edge" to the Ireland v Scotland 6N game? Gives the Irish someone else to moan about about from Wales and Gatland I suppose...........
