It's so sad to see, cause Ireland have some brilliant players. I wish they could claw their way back.

I do think that the biggest mistake was starting with Redden over Murray.

Can we now stop saying that the Aussie pack is weak? They are also missing great forwards such as Higginbottom and Pocock.

Re: Ireland V Australia
The Aussie tight 5 are weak. But when you roll out in an international game with utter passengers like Ross and Toner then you are in trouble.
Big bad O'Mahony doing his 'I'm bad bejeezus!' impression. If only he put in as much effort around the field rather than hiding again in the backs.

Try from Cronin!
A chink of light at the end of a very dark tunnel!
Oh wait...may be disallowed due to a knock on.

A seriously off day from the Irish. What was more surprising though was that they were totally dominated in the scrum, honestly never thought I'd see that.

Re: Ireland V Australia
Whats that sound? Oh yea, its knives being sharpened...
Heres how it goes:
a) some people are furious for a while
b) some really respectable sensible people then come in all high and mighty and declare 'Its only his second game'
c) there is a backlash claiming that he 'did it all the time with leinster, he's hardly new to coaching'
d) Then some people give it the whole 'a coach cant make players not be stupid - its them that let us down'
e) Then others come in and say 'here settle down, we were missing key players and got unlucky with injuries...
f) the argument repeats....
3...2...1... GO!!!

Re: Ireland V Australia
Well, there we go- Schmidt will now have a good insight into the scale of the job he has. I think BOD could be dropped, but I wouldn't drop him because I'm sentimental and I want to see him have one last crack at the All Blacks. Besides it's not exactly the game to blood a new 13. I just fear it'll be the game that buries the old 13.
Jackson for next week if Sexton is out mind you, thought he was better than Madigan. Reddan starting was a mistake and maybe, FINALLY, we'll try Tuohy in the second row. Not much else to say. We can't change all 15 players after all.

It was a bigger margin than I expected. I thought it would be much closer +/- 3 to 5 points each way. There are some signs that the Wallabies are getting it together but they still leave points on the field with missed kicks at goal and too many forced/unforced errors at crucial times.
I'm just glad they've won 2 in a row now. Scotland and Wales will be tough matches and we'll need to play even better.

Horrible, horrible game. Our support play really must be the worst in world rugby.

I don't think anyone is going to write off a new coaching ticket after one game and three weeks of preparation. Of course he'll take some responsibility along with the players.clivemcl wrote:a) some people are furious for a while

Agreed. To be honest, he is in a difficult position. Imbalances across the field, players who are well past their best, and just total lack of confidence with ball in hand. Not to mention the fact nobody seems to be on the right wavelength.Nachos Jones wrote:I still believe that Schmidt is the right man to lead Ireland but do believe that its a very long road for him.
That isn't to justify the crap produced today, but honestly he has a lot of work to do and long term mistakes to fix. Hopefully this game will have given him a lot to think about.

Re: Ireland V Australia
You know, for some reason I feel as if Schmidt is more doing a feeling out phase here. At the end of the day, these AI's are not that important. I think he will click into gear around the 6N.Rory_Gallagher wrote:Agreed. To be honest, he is in a difficult position. Re: Ireland V Australia
I think every test match is important. I'd be willing to sacrifice a few results this autumn for long-term progression, but Schmidt has maybe preferred Leinster players when he's had to make a 50/50 call in the name of continuity and familiarity so thats a short-term strategy.
