Watching Floyd Mayweather's Gala dinner...
First topic message reminder :
Been an interesting show. The minister of sports gave a very great speech discussing his razzmatazz combining with the money team. He was then presented with a robe with Mandela emblazoned all over it
Rough notes of the Floyd interview...
- Watched a montage of his greatest hits... And promptly critiques his Guerrero performance
- Discusses his vast wealth... Must admit the guy is pretty rich.
- A montage of his trip plays - For some reason he is dancing with the Zion Christian Church
- Phillip N'dou, Floyd's last hometown fight comes to stage... Demands just one more fight... Floyd says N'dou bruised him and he doesn't like being bruised. N'dou retorts by saying he doesn't like being knocked out. Floyd replies "You still fighting? I'm about to retire, and you're not on my radar - speak to Showtime or CBS"
- Mayweather is asked about his last fight. Confirms he will retire September 2015.
- Asked about the Khan fight. He replies he hasn't hasn't signed anything, and would like to see the contract details, if Khan really does have a contract...
- If he does fight Khan everything has to be on his terms.
- discusses leaving Top Rank briefly, Bob Arum wasnt happy..
- First thing he did when he got out of prison was get into his Bentley. First thing he did when he got home was get into his Lamborghini.
- Makes a sniping comment about owing the IRS
- "we can check Manny's bank account and we can check my bank account".
- He has made $120 million in 45 minutes.
Must admit, despite the bragging about material wealth, he seems a very genuine fellow, and he has presence. Needs to work on his articulation, but if he does go the "Dinner with..." route, it should be very profitable for him (1000 people paid $1500 for a thirty minute spurt).
Will hopefully be up on YouTube soon to provide a link.

So was him beating his girlfriend up all a staged event, to do some "time" and increase his "street cred", so as to better accrue the "bread"?
Like I said he has done stupid things he served his time! Even manny has done stupid things
Like I said he has done stupid things! I hope you hold Adonis stevenson and Bernard Hopkins and others to things they have done aswel

Look I haven't hung Floyd for serving time - I was just interested to see if you thought it was all an act (semi-legitimately, actually, since having a street cred is actually important in entertainment, which will help you make that cheese). I only ever really bang on about Floyd's jail term when Truss starts calling Chisora a wife beating so and so
Stevenson is a similar, but different case, I suppose. I'd never defend his actions, but he hasn't committed a crime since then, and the case does have some grey shading (without putting into doubt that he's guilty)... but I look at it like this - I live in a country where the national motto seems to be "rise from the self inflicted pit you dug yourself into" - so I'm a big believer in redemption, and second chances. Stevenson took his (when he didn't already have more money than god), and I like watching him knock people out.
As for Popkins - Well I doubt buy the 50-year old man still schooling YoungBloods act at all, so my views on him aren't high enough for his past to make a dent into my opinion of him.

Re: Watching Floyd Mayweather's Gala dinner...
I personally think he's not as much of a tool as his new persona makes out he has made himself money May and in doing so he has to live up to it! Most interviews I see him when he's not talking about himself he's sounds pretty normal! I'm not sure he was any different before he became money he just has to live up to it! After the Guerrero fight when Ruben was ripping him for running Floyd snr was away to start slagging them off and Floyd jnr basically told him to shut up and said good fight! If he was a big a arse as some make out he would belittle a lot of folk but seems quite humble with fighters after the fight! So I think he lies somewhere invetween the 2 he's got to live up to money maywether to sell tickets but I actually think he appreciates everything he has! I also don't think he will not go bankrupt like some do he's to good a business man
