Re: Homepage
And your reasonings/feedback
- Feedback:
- Chargers @ Patriots - Chargers win
Tight one but I feel like the Chargers strengths match up well against New England's deficiencies. JJ Watt will tear up a poor interior OL and the whole front 7 will get pressure which will let the secondary make plays (and they will - Verner, Weddle and Mathieu all have very good ball skills). Chargers offense is good enough to take advantage of short fields and I can see a short passing attack being successful against the Pats D. Pats have edge on Special Teams, FWIW.
Broncos @ Chiefs - Chiefs win
Broncos have utilised thier talent all wrong. Welker will be shut down on the outside and Jeffery will be less effective from the slot. On defense, they are starting in nickel against an RB heavy offense, rushing 5 and 6 leaving no one between the line of scrimmage and secondary. The Chiefs gameplan to use short passes and screens will destroy this defense and regularly gain YAC.
Bengals @ Colts - Void, can't vote on your own game.
Can I vote on my own game? AJ Green and Julio Jones will embarrass man coverage on the outside. When the Safeties are deep expecting pass, Bernard will get yards on draws and screens as planned. My defense is set up to stop the pass and get pressure on the QB. Poor Colts OL will be bested by my simple 4 man rush which means we have an extra man in coverage so Luck will have to hold onto the ball a touch longer before being sacked.
Packers @ Seahawks - Seahawks win
Both teams have similar offenses - great weapons with a poor to mediocre OL. However, I feel the Seahawks have the better defense to take advantage of this weakness and force turnovers. Packers D will struggle against the Seahawks power run D, especially with Marshawn Lynch breaking tackles and getting to the second level.
Saints @ Eagles - Eagles win
Apart from Jimmy Graham, the Saints don't have many real weapons IMO. The Eagles D will get a lot of pressure with that front 4, particularly Quinn. The Saints Defense looks impressive but I don't think Cameron Jordan fits as a 3-4 DE and he will be bullied in the run game against a very very good OL. Similarly, the ILB's are the weak links in that defense and the Eagles plan to be a run focused offense will prove to be successful.
49ers @ Panthers - 49ers win
49ers match up well against the Panthers. Carolina's offense has nothing except Adrian Peterson who will be handled to some extent by the 49ers strong run defense. Their CB's aren't being challenged which is the key weakness in their entire team. Panthers defense will cover Marshall successfully with Haden but other than that, Crabtree, Boldin and Davis are free to do as they please against a bad secondary. Panthers will shut down the run game which will take away play action, but Crabtree can gain enough seperation anyway and Boldin doesn't even need it. No contest.
================================================================================================================
Chargers 20 v 23 Patriots
The Pats edge this one out. Chargers played well, very high spirited team with a lot of guts and pride!
Bengals 30 - 27 Colts
Tough one, Cinni edge it out in a high scorer.
Packers 17-21 Seahawks
Tight one, Hawks just take it.
Saints 17 - 14 Eagles.
Saints win this one, tough game.
49ers 17 - 21 Panthers
The Panthers just manage to steal the win in this one.
==================================================================================================================
Chargers 17 @ 34 Pats
Tied ball game at the half, but Brady guns it out and runs riot after the break.
Broncos 21 @ 24 Chiefs (O/T)
Close game, O/T win for Chiefs, Jamaal Charles having a career day.
Bengals 28 @ 20 Colts
Bengals to powerful overall, Luck keeping the Colts in contention until 4th quarter.
Saints 38 @ 33 Eagles
Game of the day. Offensive shoot out, with Revis grabbing game winning INT as time expires.
49ers 17 @ 20 Panthers
Dog fight, lots of D, lots of turnovers and QB pressure/hits. AP breaks away late to clinch win.
================================================================================================================
Chargers 26 v 34 Patriots
The Patriots have amassed an impressive defence, even with their safeties being somewhat suspect. Their d-line should prevent them from being run on too much, whilst Chandler Jones should get a lot of pressure on Rivers. On offence Brady has two top-class receivers to throw to in Wayne and Fitz, and the game plan really acknowledges that. Wayne should really take advantage of being matched with Wright. I like the attempt to put Mathieu on Gronk, but fear his size could lead to him being exposed. Peterson is a good match against Johnson and Talib shouldn't be destroyed by Allen. Gates should be their best option, and Woodhead out of the backfield could be a mismatch against the LBs. The Chargers keep it close but can't match the Pat's offensive weapons.
Broncos 23 v 24 Chiefs
I'm not entirely sure why the Broncos are getting Jeffery to work the middle, I'd have thought Welker would be better in that role, with Jeffery and D Thomas outside. On defence I'm not sure if they chose the perfect personnel to match the Chiefs. Outside of Knighton, I'd say the d-line and LBs can be susceptible to the run, especially when they are facing Jamaal Charles. On the other side I think the Chiefs have the right idea to stop Manning, keep him off the field. Their run/screen game should prevent Manning from having too many possessions. They are pressuring Manning which is what you have to do, give him time and you will lose. Chiefs win with a late field goal.
Bengals 35 v 27 Colts
AJ Green and Julio Jones on the field at the same time is about as fearsome as the Pats offence, which is accentuated by the fact that Dalton is no longer throwing the ball, Matt Ryan is no a the helm. They are a match-up nightmare as the Colts will be in man with a safety over the top on each of them. That leaves single coverage on Wright and Eifert. Bernard would also wreak havoc with the attention elsewhere. The Colts have the right idea with pressuring Ryan as he can make mistakes but I don't see the secondary giving them enough time to get to him. The Bengals have a good front 6/7, so passing is the right option but ultimately I fear they won't be able to keep up.
Packers 20 v 24 Seahawks
They are right to try and run Lacy in the beginning, it would prevent the Seahawks really getting after Rodgers early and setting a dangerous tone. They also have the right idea with trying to stop the run, with Matthews trying to go after Wilson, because that O-line can give up a good few sacks. However, their own O-line is extremely susceptible to the Seahawks pass-rush. Rodgers is often sacked and doesn't have time to go through his progressions, as they are forced to throw it once the Seahawks get ahead. Lynch, Forte and Wilson should run enough to see them through once they get ahead. A late rally by Rodgers and Megatron just falls short.
Panthers 13 - 13 49ers
A very low scoring affair in San Fran. An extremely physical battle in which both teams try to run as much as possible. Peterson is the biggest difference from the actual playoff match between the two. Haden and Marshall should more or less cancel each other out. McCoy makes this an even tougher defence to run on but Newton and Peterson should have some joy. The problem with the Panthers is that they still lack great options when passing the ball, but when you have Newton and Peterson you don't exactly need Megatron and Fitzgerald because. These teams cancel each other out and play out a tough draw.
=================================================================================================================
Chargers 23 - 26 Patriots
Mathieu on Gronk is just a mismatch in terms of size, can just see Gronk boxing him out and winning that battle pretty easily. I think the Pats have underestimated Chargers DL, who will have success with the OLBs being able to get to Brady. However the Pats have so many options, that they will be able to put up a decent number of points.
I like the Chargers gameplan, but their strengths are matched by the strength of the Pats D. The WRs will be well covered, and I think their O Line needs some help and will struggle against Suh and Wilfork, even if Vince isn't as good as he once was! I think Green and Gates will have success against the Pats LBs, and will be their primary source of scoring.
Close game, Chargers have improved a lot but just not enough on the road against a strong Pats team.
Broncos 20 - 19 Chiefs
On paper, this should be a Broncos win, however the Chiefs gameplan is very good and the Broncos pretty much don't have a gameplan. I think the Chiefs defence matches up very well to the Broncos, with big CBs and strength at the safety and LB spots to cover the likes of Thomas. Houston and Hali are also likely to have success here, even with the big advantage of Peyton. Given the reliance on blitzing for the Chiefs, I think Peyton will make enough throws to beat their blitz and put up a fair amount of points.
Chiefs will also do well, as their tactics are perfectly suited to attacking the Broncos. Charles will have a big day, and Smith is perfectly suited to the short passing game they want to employ. Gordon is likely to do well against the zone defence.
Overall, based on the QB and weapons on offence, I have to give this to the Broncos, but a better QB would have seen the Chiefs win.
Bengals 27-23 Colts
I think the Bengals have the advantage in the trenches, and their receivers are a massive threat. Indy are lined up well, but are overmatched on their OL and Cbs specifically. I think Indy need another pass rusher opposite Mathis, Walden just isn't good enough here
I think Hilton will burn any of the Cincy CBs, and they could have success there.
Good win on the road for Cincy
Packers 20 - 26 Seagulls
I see this going in a similar way to the Super Bowl for the Seattle D. Sherman obviously matches up on Calvin, and the rest of the secondary is also strong as we know. I think Seattle's big advantage is their D Line up against the weak O Line of the Packers. GB are likely to struggle against the rotating line up of pass rushers, which will enable Seattle to drop 7 back into coverage.
Seattle are likely to have some success with Bryant, as the Packers have no corner of the size and speed to defend him. If they are preparing to stop Lynch, I like the rotation of Forte in as a second RB, which should keep them both fresh and give Dez some more room on the outside. Harvin will also be dangerous with the front 7 all focusing on the run
Overall - a good win at home for Seattle, Packers need some work in the trenches
=================================================================================================================
Chargers 24 Patriots 17
Going to be tough on the Pats interior line to stop the Chargers front three from getting some pressure. Running won’t come easily either. Pats have a very talented offense so if Brady gets time he makes the Chargers pay, especially with the undersized Mathieu on a beast like Gronk. Throw to him even if he is covered… Ultimately the Chargers get the more consistent pass rush, and they have enough offensively to take this one.
Chiefs 28 Broncos 24
Blitzing is a nice idea in theory but the Denver front 5 is good enough to give Manning the time to get rid of the ball. Denver just don’t have a good enough game plan and even if I would be inclined to give them a win simply for their offense, it seems like the monkey is playing the organ. It’s close simply because of personnel, but the Chiefs have the better game plan.
Packers 27 Seahawks 38
I’d have to be convinced that the Packers front could handle two quality rushers on the same team as well as chasing Wilson around. I think they’d be knackered soon enough and Wilson now had a proper #1 WR to throw to in Bryant. Rodgers is good enough to hold strong against the pass rush and Lacy will do enough to slow it down a little with some power runs. Still, it’s tough on the GB defense and the Hawks D will just make more stops than them.
Saints 20 Eagles 24
Close again but the Eagles have improved majorly defensively and they should be able to pressure Brees enough to get some breathing space. They have the better offensive weapons, even if they do suffer a little from trying to avoid Revis – if he follows Brown all day they are ruling out their top receiver. Lucky for them they have Jackson and McCoy.
49ers 16 Panthers 13
Smashmouth stuff from these two. It’s close but I think the Panthers need to address the WR positions and have a little more to throw at. If I’m playing them I’m keying on the run and keeping Newton behind the line. Much better balance to the 49ers offense although against better passing teams they may be vulnerable at CB. This game is pretty low scoring because it’s short in length due to defenses making offenses work harder and a hell of a lot of running.
==================================================================================================================
Chiefs 24 – 21 Broncos
The threat of Josh Gordon makes a big difference here as it allows the Chiefs to get Charles into the game as much as possible and control the ball. Puts the pressure on Peyton to make things happen when he gets it and the pressure of Houston and Hali eventually tells as the throws an INT with 2 minutes left to seal the win for the Chiefs. Charles with a 100 yards on the ground and 80 in the air is the difference.
Bengals 27 – 21 Colts
The Bengals always in control of this game. Ryan with Jones and Green is a potent aerial attack, not to mention Bernard out of the backfield and I think this will be too much for the Colts to handle. Despite a brace of late TD passes to Hilton, Luck and the Colts just have too much to do come the fourth quarter and the Bengals close it our relatively comfortably in the end. Julio Jones with 127 yards receiving.
Packers 17 – 14 Seahawks
Think the Packers are able to slow down the running game of the Seahawks with their front 7 and this forces the Seahawks to put the game on Wilson. Whilst he plays well, he just can’t do enough as a couple of big plays to Megatron turns the game on its head (after a couple of Rodgers INTs) and the Packers run out narrow winners, despite not being the better team on the day. Megatron 101 yards and 2 TDs.
Saints 21 – 16 Eagles
Whilst the short passing/run game the Eagles implement is effective in shutting down the Saints pass rush, it also means they stall a lot and can’t convert their possessions into TDs, having to settle for a lot of FGs. The Saints offense produces a couple of big plays despite pressure from Quinn all game long which forces the Eagles to be more aggressive offensively and a late Revis INT secures the victory for the Saints.
49ers 17 – Panthers 10
Two tough defences collide with the 49ers just coming out on top. Steve Smith gets almost shut down completely on this just puts too much pressure on the run game of AP and Newton and they can’t quite get it done. Brandon Marshall makes a big difference to the niners passing game as he snags a brace of TDs which eventually prove to be the difference between the two sides.
===================================================================================================================
SDC 20 @ 30 NE Pats
Liked both sets of tactics (100 words is def too short so glad it's changing)
Liked player additions from both sides
Chargers have improved but not by enough to win at Pats
Bengals 24 @ 23 Colts
Really like the additions by the Bengals esp on O
Both tactics good
Bengals to sneak it
GB packers 23 @ 30 Seahawks
Again tactics ok
Packers O will score some points here but not enough to win in Seattle
Like the Dez pick up for hawks O
Saints 27 @ 24 Eagles
Good tactics
Very tough call this one
Saints to win in OT
49ers 27 @ 30 PAnthers
Good tactics by both sides and some good player additions
Peterson makes a huge difference to Panthers O so home advantage earns Carolina the win
==================================================================================================================
Chargers 23-21 Patriots
I have gone for a slight Chargers win. I thought the Chargers game plan was well set up to combat the Patriots. The heavy passing game was anticipated and the defence set-up to tackle it. The Chargers run game should get enough room to set-up a few field goals.
Broncos 42-35 Chiefs
I can see a shoot-out. Both teams are set up well offensively while leaving areas for their defences to be got at. I just think the Broncos will have too much power in the air against the Chiefs secondary
and will get more joy from that than the Chiefs will from Jamaal Charles.
Bengals 35-21 Colts
Heavy passing games on both sides should result in another shoot-out. Both have good receivers and should get some luck in the air. I just feel the Bengals defensive set up is a little stronger and will be able to stop the Colts some of the time.
Packers 17-20 Seahawks
The Packers are set up well on both offence and defence. Nice tactics in stopping Lynch and getting pass rush pressure on Wilson. The Seahawks could get some success if Wilson runs though? Packers D does anticipate the Seahawks running game but Wilson scrambling and throwing deep to Bryant could have some success. Seahawks D is more set up to pass rush Rodgers and stop the passing game so Packers could get some luck with Lacy. Close game.
Saints 23-27 Eagles
I think the Saints will get the ball moving with Graham likewise the Eagles with their play actions runs. Another close game but with Smith and David suring up the Eagles D and with the Eagles looking like they have more offensive options, I can see them just edging the game.
===================================================================================================================
Chargers 16-20 Patriots
Interesting matchup. Not sure if Woodhead can get enough yards to consistently damage the Pats. Pats defence looks strong enough to prevent him making significant inroads and they have enough quality to trouble Rivers and his receivers. Chargers can get pressure on Brady but at home I think Brady can get the ball in the hands of his receivers enough to get the win
Broncos 17-30 Chiefs
Chiefs have the right game plan to take the ball out of Peyton's hands. Charles will have a great day with a 200 yard game. Also got the right idea to go after Manning. Manning is still highly dangerous and once his arm gets going he can score points but Chiefs don't let it descend into a shootout.
Bengals 34-13 Colts
Bengals are going to be very tough to beat this season. Colts edge rushers will occasionally get to Ryan but not enough to stop the offence which can make yards of the pass and running games. Bengals defence is scary and I see them shutting down the Colts offence pretty effectively.
Saints 24-23 Eagles
Saints offence can damage the Eagles with it's strong passing attack with Brees and Graham probably the most deadly duo in the league. I do think up against David he won't have it all his own way. Not the hugest Foles fan and think he can be got at by the Saints DL. Eagles can successfully move the chains though when given the chance.
Niners 24-13 Panthers
I think the game hinges on whether the Panthers D can get to Kap effectively. Gore likely to struggle but Davis, Crabtree and Boldin can all be effective as weapons. Niners D is frankly scary and I see them stopping AP enough to grab a win.
==================================================================================================================
Broncos 17 vs 24 Chiefs
Welker should be in the slot, and Jeffrey outside for Denver. I think they have some success against the Chiefs defence, as Peyton can still get it out quickly enough to avoid the pass rush, but it's slow going for the Broncos offence.
Denver however lose this game on defence, they simply become overmatched in a zone coverage scheme especially as often there is only 5 men in zones against 4 receivers. Gordon breaks a few big plays for Kansas in a good win
Bengals 28 vs 17 Colts
A good win for a scary looking Bengals side here. The Colts simply can't matchup with their weapons on defence, although I think they've got the right idea. The Bengals defence does a job on the Colts offence here, Heyward Bay is no threat whatsoever and if he ever did go for a catch he'd probably drop it.
Packers 21 vs 24 Seahawks
A close game this one, as I fancy the Packers to put up a few points on this Seattle defence, I think A rod can get some success going to Megatron against Sherman. But the Seahawks have improved their offence, and I don't think the Packers have enough interior pass rush to get at the Seahawks weakness (interior O-line). A Seattle win (side notes I'd start Tramon Williams over Casey Heyward if I'm Green Bay)
Saints 23 vs 17 Eagles
Whilst this is a very much improved Eagles team, I feel they will lose this game to New Orleans. The Saints get good pressure on Foles which forces mistakes, despite McCoy having some success running the ball. The Saints I feel could do with another WR, but still have enough to win this game
49ers 23 vs 14 Panthers
The 49ers defence shuts down this Panthers offence. They simply stack the box and win the line of scrimmage for me. Panthers desperately need to get a #1 WR, as they simply have no passing threat in this game. The 49ers get enough points to win

He primarily lined up as a 7 technique in Rob Ryan's fluid front 7. I maintain that he is best suited as a 4-3 DE.

I don't want to argue too much as you are obviously entitled to your opinion, but these are just 2 sites stating Jordan as a 3-4 DE. Look at the plays in the second article. He started as a 4-3 end but clearly got better the last 2 seasons in a 3-4

He lines up as a 3-4 sometimes, of course (players will always be moved around in a Ryan defense), but I feel like he is most effective lined up outside on an island against the Tackle. That's where the large majority of his sacks come from and if I had more time on my hands, I'd actually look into it to see the true percentage.

Today I had time on my hands and found out that 11.5 out of 12.5 of Cameron Jordan's sacks came from the 4-3 DE position (and that's being generous because he was still on an island with the RT against the Pats).

What site did you use for that NYJ?
In quite a few of those, the man on the otherside of the DL from him is Junior Gallette, who is definitely a 3-4 OLB.. Still makes Jordan one of the 3 DLs!
I would also be interested to see how many of his sacks were on 3rd down!
Works out well for me, can use him in a 4-3 with Wake the other side if most people don't rate him as a 3-4 end

I used Game Pass and screenshotted every sack. Most of the time he's playing the 7 technique in 4 man fronts and it doesn't really matter about the other personnel.

Morning guys, sorry I was absent from Friday onwards, I've been having hellish problems with an eye injury. I'll take the loss and vote a bit later all being well.

It's the same one I got a while back, I probably told you.
Effectively a football travelling at great speed into my eye. It scratched the eye and now it's become a 'recurrent corneal erosion' so every now and then I wish I didn't have eyeballs.

Why couldn't you have been there with this wisdom?
Annoyingly it was 5 a side indoor football, so the ball shouldn't be at head height. Because it bounced off my face and went over head height it was a free kick awarded against me.

Similar thing happened to me, my lad (when he was a toddler) stuck a fire engine toy into my right eye, absolute agony, felt like having glass fragments in my eye socket. Still make me shudder now (years later!).
It did get better though, good luck with it...
