Kroos would be the best signing they could make, can't see Bayern letting him go even though they are stacked he brings them something that the other midfielders don't. He is a complete player in every sense.

Total player overshadowed in wages by robben and co yet doesnt want to be anymore. there is a chance he will go but tbh you would have to bid outrageous wages , and i think even more than 250k if you are united

He'd instantly be worth it. Add him, Gundogan and Reus and United return to title contention.

the worrying thing is under moyes i wouldnt even be sure, at the moment were playing with no tempo and no rhythm and no clue. these players all class but there working with bosses who sets a team up which suits exactly how they should be playing. not sure moyes sticking felliani in next to them and making sure we just defend every time we get a goal up would suit them very well.

Hammersmith harrier wrote:The only club with more purchasing power is Real Madrid, the rest of them varies depending on the player. We can bully a team like Dortmund just as much as Munich and we have in the past and the latter hasn't really proved their pulling power outside of Germany. Ribery and Robben have been revitalised but weren't at the top of their game when they joined.
I think you are being unrealistic here. The owner of Man City is a prince of Abu Dhabi, his extended family are estimated to be worth a trillion dollars while his personal fortune is around 20 billion. Madrid are a bigger club globally than United and Barca as well earn more in revenues than United and get the lion's share of la liga TV money. I don't know how you bully Munich right now with no champion's league next year and a team in a bit of disarray. Munich is not far behind in revenues and if you guys don't make Cl and they go deep the next couple of year's they will surpass you in turnover. I don't think you have more purchasing power than Chelsea either right now, if you look at what Chelsea have spent the last few years they easily outstrip United. And you certainly don't have more purchasing power than PSG or Monaco either more oil sheiks who own whole countries and tens of billions of assets abroad. If I was rating purchasing power United without CL is not anywhere near the top. Yes you bought Mata but he was a bench player at Chelsea, superfluous to Jose's needs. In terms of purchasing power
City, PSG, Monaco, Real, Barca, and Chelsea all outstrip United and probably Bayern as well currently with what has gone on this season and with how they are peaking. You guys are 8th in my accounting this isn't the 90s.

Socal pulling power isn't just down to money, we're still a more attractive club to join than PSG or Monaco. Barca may have more revenue but we make higher profits that's the figure that really matters. As for Bayern they're more than happy to bully their domestic rivals, they don't impact on foreign teams too much.
Madrid are the only team we can't compete with, City offer a club money but little else, they've had a fair few players turn them down.

"Barca may have more revenue but we make higher profits that's the figure that really matters"
only to the owners and stake holders NOT the players coming!!!
The players coming only care how big your club is, what other players they have, what opportunities they will get(Champions league, etc) and off course sadly the most important- How much money will you pay them!!
I dont want to start and argument and resort to your tactics Hammersmith- but your stance that Man U has more pulling power than all clubs bar Madrid is a bit cukoo
get them 2014 binnoculars on. We are in the present

He did say they can compete, which I think they can do. Prestige and money will do them favours.
However, they are very unlikely to win a battle with any of the aforementioned clubs if all things are relative

As a makrer.
I have a feeling whoever gets shaw will prove what PL team has the most pulling power in the PL.
I think all of the big 3 will go for him and even though he isnt a world class performer yet- a LB is vital and a huge asset.. Luke shaw will be able to go to any of the 3 he likes in the summer.. He is high on the wish list.
My money is on chelsea

In time we'll see, I like Martinez and long liked Everton, I hope he builds on the foundation set.
Dont worry, I'm not one of them either, we're both blessed in that regard, although I'd not say Chelsea were any better

I agree that pulling power isn't just money, but money is by far the biggest single factor in attracting top talent. One reason SAF could punch above his weight last few years was because of his CV and his history at the club. But that big pulling factor is gone now. So is another non-monetary factor that is important to world class players which is CL football that in today's football is a big factor. Another factor is the quality of your teammates, the quality of the manager, the chances at championships, and even the quality of the city you would be living in. These non-monetary factors are not so huge for United as they were when the team was winning titles, in the CL, and had SAF as the boss.
I mean look at this way, look at the actual end product; in the last few years PSG have brought in Zlatan, Thiago Motta, Lucas, Thiago Silva, Cavani, and Cabaye. Their record purchase is 58 million pounds. United brought in RVP, Fellaini, and Mata; and your record puchase is 37 million pounds. Is Blanc less respected than Moyes? Is Paris a worse place to live than Manchester? Do you have more chances for titles at PSG or United? So even the non-monetary factors don't necessarily all play in favor of United anymore since SAF left. And money wise you guys are 8th or 9th. And the reason I focused on money is because you used the term purchasing power; in raw dollars you can shell out you aren't at the top.

Unlucky to be banned at all.
The FA have said that Anelka isn't an anti-semite and that he didn't intend to express anti-semitic views/promote anti-semitism with his actions. Therefore they must be taking it as an anti-establishment gesture surely?
And I don't think an Anti-establishment gesture can be abusive/improper/indecent or insulting which is what they are banning him on.

It will be interesting to see our pulling power, Manchester not being the most glamourous spot has hurt us even in our prime.
But things can change very quickly in football, in 2003 Barcelona weren't in Deloitte's top 10 richest clubs and hadn't won a trophy in 4 years, hadn't been in the top 2 in Spain for 3 years and had 1 CL win in their history.
They signed Ronaldinho and went on to win 6 league and 3 CL titles in the next 10 years and are the 2nd richest club in the world, with players clamouring to join them.
City were back in the PL for 1 year, Roman was just about to buy Chelsea.
1 or 2 big/biggish players and I think we are an entirely different prospect.
Not hard to attract players to play with De Gea, Rooney, RVP, Mata if we buy a top midfielder you are talking about having 5 top or world class players in the side.
Big summer for us anyway, could all be about that one player.

Would be great wouldn't it, bu I can't see Bayern allowing him to leave - he could well be their best player (or about to become).
But think about it, you'd be happy to join a side with Rooney, RVP, mata and Kroos in it - if the back four is reinforced we should be challenging for the league and going deep in europe with anyone managing.
Thiago was a big miss last summer, really none of the top sides have anyone in midfield they are going to let go now and no one currently agitating for a move.

I agree things can change for United quickly, they are a massive club with a big global brand. But the landscape has changed greatly in football. If we look at raw purchasing power, (ie what you can afford to spend on transfers) United are not at the top and this is reflected by the fact that in the last few years they have been 3rd in England in terms of money spent on transfers. United aren't the boys with the biggest checkbook or nearly the biggest checkbook anymore. They also are third in terms of payroll as well.
One big player could change it up for United, Kroos would be the ideal purchase but again can't see Munich letting him go. And I can't see him leaving a team that keeps winning everything for a rebuilding job at United. Unless there is a huge difference in terms of the money United is willing to pay him compared to Munich and that could be the case. Still would need Munich to concede and can't see that happening.
Also don't know how much longer RVP will be world class, Mata hasn't looked world class this season and I don't know if I would categorize De Gea as world class either.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
The thing is it's not about the big money signings for united - they already have their stand out men up front - what they really need are players who are going to come in and put in a consistently solid performance. You could argue that a world class b2b centre mid should be their top priority but what they also need is someone like Schneiderlin (who would be realistic).

Depends on the ambition. They should be going into this market thinking that the money they spend will be on players that will not justify over just one season but at least 5 or 6. A new Vidic should set back a lot of money, a new Keane finally. Then a decent whack on a full back or two, then fill the gaps with solid additions.

LB - Shaw
CM - Gundongen
CM - Kroos
CB - Mangala/Garay
LW - Reus
RW - Greizmann
That would be my wish list, and throw in Strootman but I doubt we'd get him after we messed around last summer in trying to secure him. All realistic targets despite the inevitability of not getting top 4. Big summer, Moyes needs a chance to build his own side, there's money to be spent with a foundation of youth players. Think the summer could actually be exciting for utd believe it or not.

Greizman and Kroos are remarkable players that are going to have every big club in Europe after them. Same as Reus, I don't know how realistic the wish list is. Although United is big enough where is they really wanted to could get one or two of those players.

Its not realistic is it-
Shaw = chelsea
Kroos- maybe if they pay him 300k- because Munich unlike United(and very much like what United used to be like back in there hey day- Will not bow down to players demands, that is why they are the best and such a strong club)
Reus- well united seem to want to swap him and Gundongen for kagawa at dortmund. I know dortmund just hand over there players to Bayern, but will they to united. Kagawa on form isnt half the player Gunongen is let alone Reus!!
Mangala is going to be gone after by another 5 clubs.. United wont be his choice
but look- If they can get close to that - United are back- no doubts. It really is if they can do it - If they cant- which is what i honestly believe- just strengthen the midfield with anything- even a piece of wood would work
