That's a very attacking team in the backs - Russell, Horne and Bennett at 10,12 and 13.

Great to see Horne back in the starting XV.
Looks a decent team, especially the backs, but I think the front row on the bench is probably better than the one starting.

That is a good looking team, with a very impressive bench!
Tonnie definitely got some balls, showing he is not afraid to drop Weir who did not have a great game last week. That is kind of how it should be, play poorly and you don't play the following week. Weir needs to get his form back and quick or he could be getting left behind by Russell and Horne as well. A couple of good games over the next few weeks and Russell will tour over the summer.
I am assuming that Dunbar and Hoggy are still injured, but minus those two this has got to be our best team at the moment. I have got no issues with Murchie and Bennett replacing them either as both have been playing really well.
Its going to be a hell of a game, bring it on!

That is going to be to our advantage in the second half when they come on then. To be fair Welsh and Reid have really stepped up the past few weeks and I am very confident in them. Dougie Hall always does a job. To win the league you really need the depth and we seem to have it now.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Ulster Rugby, 18 April
For anyone reading remotely and unable to access the Toonie picture, the Glasgow team is:
15 Murchie
14 Maitland
13 Bennett
12 Horne
11 Seymour
10 Russell
09 Cusiter
08 Wilson
07 Fusaro
06 Strauss
05 Gray
04 Swinson
03 Welsh
02 Hall
01 Reid
16 MacArthur
17 Grant
18 Cross
19 Nakarawa
20 Harley
21 Matawalu
22 Jackson
23 Vernon
Absolutely amazing to see Peter Horne back. Two specialist centres in specialist positions - well, I never. Big shout putting Finn Russell in at 10 - let's see what he's made of. Am also assuming that Dunbar is injured or rested and Hoggy is too busy choosing his new flat in Belfast.
The team is selected so that the game is won in the second half as most of what is conventionally Glasgow's first string is on the bench. Smart, as that's where Ulster may be struggling with the injuries that they've got.
Swinson had a bad 6 Nations by his standards, so I'm looking forward to him stepping up again. Also secretly delighted that Kellock is nowhere near this 23. Nakarawa far too talented not to feature. Strauss, Fozzy and Wilson was a firecracker loose forward trio against Munster, so it's quite right that they get to step up again. Nice to see Ryan Grant back too.
No Ulster team at the time of posting this, I don't think.

Ulster team;
http://www.ulsterrugby.com/News/LatestNews/TabId/149/ArtMID/793/ArticleID/1432/Anscombe-changes-three-for-Glasgow-clash.aspx
(15-9): R Andrew, T Bowe, D Cave, L Marshall, A Trimble, P Jackson, P Marshall;
(1-8): T Court, R Herring, R Lutton, J Muller (Captain), I Henderson, C Henry, S Doyle, N Williams;
Replacements (16-23): N Annett, A Warwick, D Fitzpatrick, L Stevenson, M McComish, M Heaney, J McKinney, C Gilroy.
Very much a weakened pack. Down to the bare bones in the back row.

I don't like that bench. Only Gilroy can come on and offer impact. Too many good players missing for Ulster- Black, Best, Afoa, Tuohy, Ferris, Diack, Wilson, Pienaar, Olding, Wallace, Payne...
It's not a game we can afford to lose so I hope that team is ready to go out and empty the tank tomorrow night. If we lose I'll be disappointed, but to be honest it's our own fault for not beating Cardiff a few weeks ago and for letting Glasgow escape with 4 points at Ravenhill in Round 2. We shouldn't be in the position we are in where we need a win as much as we do and the reason we are is because we've taken our eyes off the ball too many times this season.

I suspect he wouldn't have it any other way. That said we doing have a bench to change things. Those 15 guys are going to have to be on top of their game to get something from Scostoun

That's a very exciting backline from a Scotland perspective, and a great bench for Glasgow from an impact perspective.
Still, Muller and Henderson is a serious lock combination and Henry and Williams are both excellent players, plus the Ulster backline is about as good as it gets at club level.
This should be a very exciting match.

Is Hogg being further punished by Glasgow? Should he not be back by now?

While I am somewhat pleased that the veteran Hornee-Furra gets a run at IC, when looking at the 10, 12, 13 axis he does stand out a bit as ....well...not at all being from Ayr. Not sure how that slipped through but I suppose you have to take some selections risks now and again.

Horne actually played for Hawick against Ayr at the end of March, so he will have benefitted from close exposure to that sort of brilliance.

Hornee Furra Linee.
I think the Warriors have the advantage in the Front and Back rows. The impact subs are all on the Glasgow bench. If Russell plays to his potential it could be a 5pointer.
C'mon Glasgow.

Actually, if Toonie brings on 16-20 against a tiring, makeshift Ulster pack it could be carnage in the second half.
Can't wait till tomorrow it should be a cracker, and Ulster will fight for every last inch and could turn us over if we don't front up.

Could turn you over... we will turn you over!
We'v got the advantage in the back line, we've still got the firepower so it'll just be about whether our starting pack can last without tiring but we'll be up for this one alright. We know how to go away to good teams and win and our discipline and defence is right up there with anybody in the league.

Feels like I have logged into a pre-match thread of the All Blacks v Worcester Warriors with the level of optimism/confidence coming from the Weedgery.
Well I am sorry but it's all very un-Scottish and I think we need an urgent Private Fraser "doomed ah tell ye" post for the sake of balance. There are plently to copy from the 6 nations threads.

Notch, talking sense as ever.
Stand...
The key word is IF.
Ulster are a very good side. IF you don't turn up against them they will make you suffer.
Russell-Horne-Bennett has the potential to rip any defence apart IF they get quick ball and IF Russell plays to his, undoubted, potential.
The Yankees have been on the phone already but as long as both my sons are turning out for our local club and I can still get into the seconds, I'm going nowhere. (See Your Match thread if you're feeling insomnia coming on)

Hear that Ulster fans, "Bamboozled" was Ruan.
In all honesty though, I expect this is going to be a cracker of a match to watch for both sets of fans. May the best team win - can't wait.

Most exciting for sure imo.
Which exact definiton of exciting varies minute by minute through a game.
I prefer the:
"mercurial rugby genius who constantly keeps oposition thinking and can produce something from nothing".
But to be honest I feel this season we have had just a little bit too much:
"going down the pub drinking with a murderer" type of exciting.

Notch - apparently, Gregor Townsend has arranged for 23 miner's lamp helmets and a small submarine to be delivered to the away dressing room tonight.
When you 're going down as badly as Ulster is going to tonight, it's only fair to make sure that you're comfortable down there.

Going to be the biggest crowd (6,600+) for a Glasgow game since we moved to Scotstoun. Would think its going to our biggest crowd for a non derby match.

Gonna be a lot of drunk sunburnt weegies rocking up at Scotstoun tonight!
(yes I know it's only 13 degrees but that's more than enough for us!)

Legendary clip.
Very, very difficult to play a convincing drunk. Gregor Fisher is amazing at it. Simon Pegg explains here (at 2:41):

I have that overwhelming tingly feeling of anticip ation.
Win tonight, slaughter the effeminates and a home berth in the semis awaits.
Lose and Toonie morphs into the Great Gatsby, "as he stood by that blue lawn his dream seemed so close he could hardly fail to grasp it. It eluded him then as it eludes us now" (quoting fromory so forgive any errors).
C'mon Glasgow WHATEVER IT TAKES
p.s. just heard Asbo has been spotted heading west on the Grand Canal asking for directions to Hemel Hempstead.

Thats it dudes. Back from a long days toil and ready for some rugger action. Robust pants on and raring to go. Ulster team staying in Menzies Hotel btw - wee bit downmarket tbh. They should be in 1 Devonshire Gdns but times may be tough even for them
