First topic message reminder :

John wrote:Can see the same thing happening with Kroos, when Bayern stump up the wage & then the pressure will be on Moyes massively, after constantly telling everyone that he's been given the nod by these agents that these players wanted to come to United.

He shouldn't be saying things like that IMO. Just making things harder for himself.

Hernandez to Juventus on apparently. Could all just be paper chat given the newsreel goldmine the end of the transfer window is.

Wage bill and squad being thinned out imo.

I'd suspect another two incoming though before the end of Monday as well as those leaving.
Carvalho I reckon could come though it'll be a duke out with Arsenal for him and they surely must add to the centreback ranks?

I can't see Hernandez and Welbeck leaving, makes our main strength a real weakness.

Don't know if Welbeck will leave, stronger rumours for Hernandez.

You are right though I think only 1 will be allowed to leave.

Rojo hasn't got his work permit yet so he won't play this weekend afaik.

Another centre half would be good but who?

Can't see why not.

I'm not even sure how we completed Rojo's signing without a work permit, but Di Maria has been in the EU a lot longer - I think Rojo came from Russia a year or two ago.

You need a European passport or a work permit which is based on playing most the internationals in the last 2 years or so.

Yes, Di Maria should have a european passport having lived/played in europe for 7 years.

Rojo has only been in Portugal for 2 years, should get one granted given his role in the world cup.

It's on a country by country basis though. Different countries have different rules I think.

(i.e if you needed 4 years residency to get a Portugese passport, you couldn't use 3 years in Portugal and 1 in Spain)

Fair point, I just presume it's fine as theres been no mention of it regarding Di Maria in contrast to Rojo.

Carvalho can play CB as well as DM/CM so fits with LVGs philosophy of players that are adaptable.

not too sure what the line up is going to be tomorrow, hoping he ditches the 3-5-2 but cant see it. when playing that formation you need  a lot out of your wide man and both of ours are pretty average if not awful in youngs case

shift the formation and play di maria wide with januzaj on the other side and we look hell of a lot more threatening

Van Gaal has made a fairly strong defence of Luke Shaw, think his initial comments have been twisted quite a lot, he didn't say he was overweight or not training properly but wasn't at full fitness following the world cup.

With Cleverley, Kagawa and Hernandez expected to leave I do worry about our squad depth, we'll be left with what i'd consider two central midfielders and not much back up in general if we persist with the 3-5-2 formation.

weve barely got any games to play this season, so squad depth shouldnt be too much of a problem as we wont need to rotate and the injuries should die down. someone versatile like a blind coming in who can cover lb/cb/cm should solve few problems

defence options- rafael, smalling, jones, rojo, shaw, evans, blackett, possibly blind for three postions

central midfield- herrera, carrick, fletch, di maria, blind? for two postions if you count mata as the ten position which we have plenty of cover

Once Rojo has his permit sorted out i'd personally like to see Blackett at left wing back while Shaw is still injured, would surely be a better option than Young.

Preferably though

De Gea

Rafael-Jones-Rojo-Shaw

Herrera-Carrick

Di Maria-Rooney-Januzaj

Van Persie

or

Blind or Carrick

Di Maria-Herrera

Mata

Rooney-Van Persie

Fee agreed for Blind apparently, much more the type of player you require in my opinion. Still a couple of players short of top 4 I think.

I know we've played badly but I thought we had a squad capable of finishing in top four before we signed anyone this summer - I know others will disagree.

If LVG can't get a squad containing De Gea, Rojo, Blind, Herrera, Carrick, Di Maria, Rooney, RVP, Mata into the top four I would be very disappointed.

Thought he looked decent at world cup.

Good utility man, can play 3 positions, experience in champions league. Fee is alright. Knows LVG and his systems/ways.

Pretty good signing all round in my opinion, probably this late in the window as he wasn't first choice.

I agree going forward you have the players to compete at the top level. However you are missing some quality in defence and out wide.

Think he will be good for the squad.

This summer we needed a left back, centre half, centre mid and wide midfielder.

We've bought a left back a centre half a centre midfielder a wide midfielder and a player that can cover 2 or 3 of those positions.

Centre backs are hard to come by currently, PSG spent £50 million on one that can't defend. City have spent £32-£43 million on Mangala (depending on what stories you believe) who is unproven really.

I think we have had a great window personally. Going to take longer than one window to be back competing for titles (if we ever get there).

Got a feeling when everybody is fit blind will be playing in midfield. And he's tonnes better than fletch and clev who have been playing that position so far this season. Blind can play football, something which lvg likes and doesn't have in smalling, jones, clev, and flecth

Easy few games to come- minimum 9 pts out of 9.. it will give you some hope if you manage it - but it wont tell us anything substantial until you come up against the decent sides like Palace or Arsenal.

Blind is a top class utility man, maybe not brilliant in any one position but could be our new O'shea and is a big improvement on Fletcher and Young so don't see anything wrong with the deal myself. £14mil is a decent price too but the market buying from Holland is a bit more reasonable than elsewhere.

What the hell is happening with Rojo, how can the transfer go through without everything being finalised and sorted?

I still think that for top 4. I think you along with a number of other teams will be fighting it out for that 4th spot.

If we get some quality defenders and wingers we would have enough to challenge for the title imo.

I think it is clear after todays game that Mata, RVP, Rooney triangle doesn't work. Not as well balanced or interacting as well as Sneijder, Robben, RVP did for Holland at the world cup.

We've scored twice in 3 games and created very few chances, so it isn't just at the back we are having problems.

Time for LVG to earn his money.

This is surely his last year as a top forward. He was okay last year with all the injuries and had a good World Cup but just not sure he's got much left in the tank.
