This. This. Forever this.
Amaro in the 2nd- lovely. Now get a WR with 4.4 and BPA with the rest of our picks. Perhaps using some of that ammo to move up and control the draft.

What do you folks think of Garappolo then?
Read a lot of reports this morning, seems to fit our style nicely with his quick release and strong arm, but his footwork scares me a little
I like Amaro in NYJ. Compliments Cumberland nicely, although he likes to do a lot of his work in slot like Kerley, but they'll work round it.

I agree, the only thing Cumberland is good at is stretching the seam and that's one thing Amaro can't do very well (at this point).
I don't like Garappolo at all. If you coddle him and get the ball out of his hands quickly, he can be effective, and I think the Patriots are set up for that more than any other team. However, at some point he will have to address his terrible pocket presence. He can't handle pressure. Even if that pressure is being picked up by his linemen, he feels the need to do something rash. Can that be taught?

Re: NFL Draft 2014 Discussion
Yeah not easily, but he is in the best place to learn about being a pocket passer, and learning from a dude who's got pretty damn decent pocket presence
Can't say I see him being more than a Mallet tbh, speaking of him we must offload him to someone, surely Houston

Re: NFL Draft 2014 Discussion
McCarron was in my top two QBs in this draft with Johnny Manziel. I don't understand why people are so down on McCarron? Blake Bortles was a big reach for me at #3. He ranks out as a 2nd/ 3rd prospect for me with the likes of Derek Carr and Jimmy Garoppolo.GSC wrote:Nah, he isn't very good

Think we're just gonna go BPA from here on in, probably take a RB at some point. I've got work so will miss all our 4th round picks, hopefully be back in time for the 6th/7th rounds

Detroit Lions have had the best draft so far for me with Eric Ebron, Kyle Van Noy and Travis Swanson. The Browns and Steelers are a close second.

So Texans get Savage as their drafted QB, McCarron goes to Cincy, Mettenberger to Tennessee and Logan Thomas is drafted ahead of them all

Loving the two linemen picked up by the Pats in the 4th, bye bye Dan Connolly!
Not sure about the RB, would've preferred Storm Johnson mainly cos his first name is Storm

Saw a guy tweet the punter has a better 40, bench press and vertical. Owned

It amuses me that every white WR is compared to Welker and the same 'Shifty, deceptively fast, high motor, blue collar' descriptions come out.

Basically it lets you compare how often certain words were used to describe players.

My problems with our draft are:-
1. We have lots of problems on our terrible defense... OLB is the least of them....we drafted a project OLB with our top pick. I expect very little of Trent Murphy - he seems like a poor man's Ryan Kerrigan!
2. Of all the OTs expected to go early in the draft, the one I really didn't want us to take was Moses. Who wants an inconsistent OT with a soft streak and weight issues? You can't teach someone to become tougher.
3. Spencer Long is covered in injury red flags. Who knows how well he'll recover from his MCL surgery. Why take a chance on a guy like that in the 3rd round?
4. We drafted a Kicker. This is bad enough on its own but we already have a good Kicker. This is a waste of even a 7th round pick.
I could probably go on. Probably the most underwhelmed I've been by a Redskins draft in a long time.

Re: NFL Draft 2014 Discussion
I don't understand why Dominique Easley was a first round pick? I admit I don't see as much college football as I would like, and I hadn't heard his name before the draft, but his stats are very average. If someone could shed some light it would be appreciated!
Every draft there seems to be a few players whose stats aren't great, but who evoke so much praise. Blaine Gabbert was one of these! Such average stats, but apparently first round pedigree.

Blaine Gabbert owes Andrew Luck a lot of money for staying in school. Went from second round to top of the first overnight when he was suddenly the best 'traditional' QB. Can't say I'm convinced the Jags have learned their lesson there though...bluestonevedder wrote:Every draft there seems to be a few players whose stats aren't great, but who evoke so much praise. Easley was injured so that's why his stats aren't good, watch his tape you see an explosive 3 tech who penetrates the line, something we don't have
But the health is the issue

Absolutely. I honeslty can't believe he was drafted 1st round. He showed glimpses of pure genius during his college time, but at some point potential has to be turned into reality

He was playing even when injured? I'll check out some tape, but I just feel there might have been better players still on the board.

No no had two ACL tears so missed a lot of time, thus didn't rack up the stats.bluestonevedder wrote:Olly wrote:Easley was injured so that's why his stats aren't good, watch his tape you see an explosive 3 tech who penetrates the line, something we don't have

Might have been, still not sure why we didn't take a TE, but if he can be healthy from what I've seen Easley should help us immensely

Good, good. As long as he backs up the faith the Patriots have put in him. Heck of a call considering his medical history.

Taking players with dodgy medical histories is what we do!!bluestonevedder wrote:Good, good. As long as he backs up the faith the Patriots have put in him. Heck of a call considering his medical history.

Stats mean nothing at the college level. You're looking to project how a player will do at the NFL , not how well he can dominate against Hawaii.

Bingo. It's about how the player fits at the next level, what skills does he have?NYJ wrote:Stats mean nothing at the college level. You're looking to project how a player will do at the NFL , not how well he can dominate against Hawaii.
