Wimbledon Mens Final - Where it ends all
First topic message reminder :
Awesome match and a fitting climax for a tournament full of upsets, its Wimbledon Final come Sunday and it will be contested by 7 time Champion Roger Federer and the No.1 Seed Novak Djokovic.
Federer
Key Strengths - Experience , Grass court movements, Serve and finally anticipation.
A-Game - Serve, volley, aggression, grass court movements, big forehands [all], backhand slices, topspins and flatout shots DTL and experience in handling points and holding nerves.
Weakness - Lack of Stamina to play a longer 5 set game [compared to his prime], Mid match focus lapse, Loops balls on backhands, slow 2nd servers [off late a big problem].
Crowd Support - Big time on, will be undoubtedly the crowd favorite , 80-20 should be expected.
Historical Achievement - First ever Men's Champion of all time [Yes all time] to win 8 Wimbledon titles. 18 Grand Slams.
Djokovic
Key Strengths - Return, movement, stamina, Backhand [all], Big points play.
A-Game - Backhand [all], Forehand [all], Super Serbian Serves, Rebound Aces [Returns], Pace Variance [Slow and Fast Mix], passing shots, lobs, slices, top spins, volleys, drop shots.
Weakness - Grass court movements, lack of confidence, mid match focus lapse pressure to perform and Lack of Crowd Support
Crowd Support - Generally loves to play against the crowd, it won't be different tomorrow, 20% plus support should be expected.
Historical Achievement - Multiple Wimbledon Winner, World No. Status
H2H
In General - Federer 16-14
@Wimbledon - Federer 1-0
@GS Finals - Federer 1-0
@GS - Federer 6-5
@All Finals Djoko 5-4
Wimbledon 2014 Stats
Djoko vs Fed
Aces - 73 vs 69
DF - 9 vs 5
1st Serve in 68 vs 66
Server Broken 8 vs 1
Service Held - 93% vs 98%
Forehand Winners 53 vs 56
Backhand Winner 55 vs 31
Time on Court 15:09 vs 10:16
Prediction: Djoko is more or less determined and I guess destined to win his 2nd Wimbledon given his age , stamina and experienced coach Becker.

I notice Edberg is wearing an adidas shirt in the Federer box. Would Nike like that?

This match is not exactly great for my health.
I cannot believe Roger is still in it. He should have played more aggressive from the start. I wonder if he has enough energy to continue at the level he is playing right now.

Guys and girls, whats your opinion from here? Will Roger's poor 5 set record play a role here?Can Roger maintain the aggression?

Federer's physical state v Novak's mental state. Whatever is in better shape will win and at this moment in time it's the Old Man.

The Roger of old would have pounced at the start of the 5th.
As to how it goes from here - it's a bit of a crapshoot.

Re: Wimbledon Mens Final - Where it ends all
if I were to look up Fed's 5 set record against top rivals I think it would be a major worry here. He leads 22-18 because he let some poorer players take him to 5 sets, and always seems to win those.

My hearts jumping out of my chest here. And it's not really a joke. That one point serving 5-3 sure. But that's just one point which is to be expected. The question is can Federer keep the momentum

My view is though that if Federer gets taken then he's not playing well or he's mounting a comeback

I worry about his fitness. I would still give better than even odds to Nole. But I certainly give better odds to Fed now than when he was 3:5 down in the 4th .FedsFan wrote:Guys and girls, whats your opinion from here? Re: Wimbledon Mens Final - Where it ends all
Hasn't been a physically draining match and according to google only 22C in London now. Fed should be physically OK.
Looked at the record and I think the 2 US Open Semis where Djokovic won despite Fed MPs were the only 5 setters between the two.

That is hard against Nole - you can never guarantee he is not going to find a way to break, even if you are serving well.FedsFan wrote:I think Roger needs to focus on his service games and wait patiently ala Raonic.

Fed needs to rally like this a few points. Djoko is collapsing and crying for crowd support.

I don't see if that way. He should try to avoid rallies and should try to continue with what won him the 4th set - more aggression. I worry that he will revert to the game he played prior to that.Jahu wrote:Fed needs to rally like this a few points. Djoko is collapsing and crying for crowd support.

Re: Wimbledon Mens Final - Where it ends all
Maybe Federer deserves to win not based on this match but on the whole rivalry. Would be harsh on Fed to lose all three of their 5-setters. Especially that US Open match. Everyone remember the first MP but the second one hit the top of the tape, and might have been going for a winner. So if sneaks out a win today that doesn't feel deserved on the day I wouldn't begrudge him that.
