La Liga thread
First topic message reminder :
Well, with the league in Spain restarting soon, thought I'd put this up. Backed Atlético to repeat this year, and watching last nights game, think I could be right. Think Real will find that we've gone and bought more coats of paint on the Bentley, having sold the engine... Again. It's like history really is bound to repeat itself.

Re: La Liga thread
Spanish anti-corruption police are investigating match-fixing claims after an assistant referee expected to officiate El Clásico claimed he was being pressured to favour Real Madrid.
The game, which is the most important in Spanish sport and considered one of the world’s biggest football matches, is due to take place at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium on November 21.
The official - who has remained anonymous for now due to fear of recriminations both personally and professionally - claimed that the referee for the game instructed him that he had been given instructions by the Spanish refereeing committee to favour Madrid.
Assistant referees were reportedly targeted as their decisions draw less scrutiny than the men in the middle.
When the linesman refused, he reportedly received a phone call from the Spanish federation that threatened his career.
The anonymous official filed a formal legal complaint last week, which is now being investigated, while Spanish radio station Cadena COPE later named refereeing committee member Jose Angel Jimenez as the man responsible for applying pressure.
“I won’t comment for now,” Jimenez said in response to the allegations.
“I only have very recently heard about this. I’ll read it and see what is happening but for now I can’t say much more.”

Re: La Liga thread
That would be huge, we see how AC Milan never recovered from their match fixing scandal. If Real is fixing matches I would be surprised frankly. I mean they get subsidized by the Spanish state, we have the shady Spanish doctor and the sealed files of Spanish footballers, cyclists, and possibly tennis players who were doped up in recent years. We have the crazy imbalanced TV money in La Liga. We know Barca was hit for some sanctions in their signings of players namely Neymar. There seems to be a culture in La Liga and maybe also in other leagues as well, but especially in La Liga where the top 2 get special treatment to the detriment of everyone else in the league.

Benitez has changed things and now they don't acore as many goals and get beat by all the good sides. Good work, earnt his salary there.

Don't score as many goals? Saw a stat earlier this week that said they'd scored more at this point of the season this year than they had for a while, only Barca have scored more.

Re: La Liga thread
problem for benitez, is that he's taken over real, when ronaldo is in decline.
he took over inter, after jose won them the treble.
his timing doesn't help him

Re: La Liga thread
I don't think he can be blamed timing wise, he doesn't really have much control over when he is offered a job does he?

Re: La Liga thread
obviously he's not going to reject a job. I'm just saying, he's going into jobs, when the situation is either impossible to follow (inter) or at real, where the best player the club has ever had & maybe the best of this generation, is in obvious decline. ancelotti had a fit, no sex scandal benzema, bale & ronaldo in prime to work with + barca had not signed suarez & neymar was relatively still a newcomer. two years down the road & now the tide has turned massively away from real, so benitez is in for a tough job.

Re: La Liga thread
Can see why LVG would want Ronaldo. Final season to win as much as possible & even though he's in decline, he's still superior to anything United have. Wouldn't make sense the fee or wages, but not United care, given their position & possible desperation to win something, if this season ends up trophyless.
As for Real, Rafa stating he wants to build around Bale is an absolute shocker. As much as I love bale, he ain't good enough & Real would be making a disaster to such a thing. They need to rid Ronaldo & Benzema & bring in Aguero or someone like that to lead the line, with bale in support.

Not sure I thought I'd ever see a Real side scared to take the game to PSG.

Re: La Liga thread
Real Madrid activating buy back clause on Alvaro Morata for £24m. Interesting to see if they try & then sell him for more, or get rid of Benzema.

Re: La Liga thread
I think it will depend on Benzema's criminal stuff, if he's done then they'll get rid and keep Morata, if he isn't they'll sell Morata for a tidy profit. Maybe to Arsenal.

All the experts talking about Ramos fouling Messi while on a yellow card but he got the ball.
Thierry Henry said he touched the ball but it was still a foul, dafuq?
