Any and all discussion of things rugby-related is welcome. Restaurant recommendations are openly sought. Introductions to eligible young people would be fantastic. Bullying, jingoism, and wang-measuring is not on.
We need to move forwards not backwards, upwards not forwards, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

Given our injury list, my guess is the tea lady and GC's uncle Dougie have to be in with a shout.

He'll be delighted. So will the local community, whom I think would appreciate a 'rest' from his freely flowing opinions.

Is Strauss being injured a blessing in disguise?
Never condone being happy about players being injured, but is this the exception?

Are we talking playing for Edinburgh or for Scotland? If the latter probably worth mentioning a few things not to say to the Argentina players in the tunnel.

I have already told him he cannot wear his 'Bye Bye Belgrano' t-shirt, offer to lend the country a tenner or suggest that tango is in any way only done by effete, hairy young men who are unable or unwilling to 'have sex for real'.funnyExiledScot wrote:George Carlin wrote:EWT Spoons wrote:Given our injury list, my guess is the tea lady and GC's uncle Dougie have to be in with a shout.

Well given Scott and Burleigh are out, and probably Beard too, we certainly need Strauss. I'd like to see him paired with Chris Dean.

Well as long as he does not come straight into the world cup squad - that would be unfair to the rest of the world

So many injuries! Is this what Solomons wanted with his "pre-season" that he was always on about???

A team announced - haven't got a clue who most of them are!
2nite's A team v Ontario: Lockington Hoyland Dean Auld Brown Howarth Hart; McQuillin Kerr Berghan Carmichael Turley Turner Graham Hill
A team subs: McGregor Sutherland Sheldon Hunter-Hill Nagle Glashan Purdon Anderson. K/o 7.30 at Meggetland v Ontario Blues
Great to see Hoyland, Dean, Auld and Brown playing - surely some of them will get their chance on Friday.
No idea who those 2nd row and back row players are

The key thing here is for Dean, Brown and Hoyland to come through unscathed so that they are available on Friday. All should make the match day 23 on Friday, and I have Brown and Hoyland down as starting. George Turner should also make the bench as cover for Hilterbrand.

To be fair Turner has played on the flank for heriots quite a lot. Including the cup final last season where he totally outplayed Tyrone Holmes.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread V - The Fun Continues
All things considered its actually a good team.
Turley and Hill are cornerstones of the Heriots pack which has become probably the best in the premiership. Both massive guys, and I wouldnt mind seeing either of them playing pro12 in the future. Gary Grahams been a constant in the Gala pack for a while now, and was a scotland u20. Same for Nagle with melrose, and interestingly hes been playing 12 for them this season due to injuries, and looking remarkably good. Carmichaels a current u20 and melrose lock and got all the talent, but hes so lightweight hed be underpowered playing 9. Calum Andersons been on the scene for a long time. Im sure he was in the melrose team that won their own 7's a couple of years ago. Purdon is one of those south africans who appeared out of thin air ahead of the previous A game.

Don't think we can read too much into the score given it is a random Canadian touring team, but it is good for these guys to get a run around together

I've heard on the grapevine that this canadian team are actually the All Blacks in disguise!
The ABs get tired of all the media attention so they randomly pretend to be a Canadian team. Don't look it up, or seek any form of confirmation, just take my word for it.

Getting a bit of insider info that the Stirling County 10, Fraser Lyle, has signed for Glasgow until the end of the season.

Of course, i forgot. 3 international standard stand off's not enough.
What is he going to do - clean the toilets ?
Strange one. Would they not be better sending him to Edinburgh?

Young Howarth has done well for Edinburgh A this season, so we'll keep developing him.
Once he breaks through and shows he's a good player, we'll send him to Glasgow!

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread V - The Fun Continues
The thing is, with Scott Wight playing with the 7s boys, Russell and Weir playing for Scotland, Furra Linee plumping up Dunbar's pillow in the recovery room, and Connor Braid caught somewhere on the M6 on his way back from Richmond, there really is no one in the Glasgow squad who can actually play stand-off.
We can thank our lucky stars that our next opponents are the Parma No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency 2nd XV or we'd have to call Dan the Man out of retirement.

Interesting Twitter Q&A with Maitland and cusiter tonight - when asked who the strongest player was they said zander fagerson - not bad for an 18 year old!

That is some accolade, particularly with Cusack, Welsh and of course the mighty Big Al in the squad.
I wonder who would win that award at Edinburgh. Berghan is a unit but I'm not convinced that muscle has much to do with it.

I suspect it will be Ford. Dickinson is a unit though, and is a weightlifting enthusiast (as is his girlfriend - she could bench press both of us!) and Hamish Watson is apparently one of the strongest in the squad despite his relatively small frame.

Congratulations Big Al. A fine honour.
He's a great public speaker, but I think he'll end up in a coaching role at Glasgow. He'd be excellent.

Just read some pretty exciting new from Townie in the Scotsman.
http://www.scotsman.com/news/gregor-townsend-warriors-learning-all-the-time-1-3588156
Sounds like his mystery illness could be behind him...and just in time if he is to have any chance of a WC spot. Either way great to hear the big guy's back.
Our whole group has also taken a big lift from Mike Cusack’s return to training in the last couple of weeks

But before that encounter at the Stade Ernest Wallon there is an awful lot of rugby to be played, with three Test matches and three fixtures in the Guinness Pro12, with the first of these league games coming tomorrow night with the visit of Treviso to Scotstoun.
This period is likely to see a return from injury of several of our longer-term absentees. Ryan Grant, Ryan Wilson and Jon Welsh have all had game time under their belts in the club game in recent weeks and are not far away now from a return to our playing squad.
Oh thank feck for that.

Amazing to see the two Ryans back (Wilson and Grant).
Also really want Bordill to get some game time. He's too good to be in the gym all the time.

Yep, he qualified in June. Long way to go to get back to form, but front row isn't always our richest area so he could be invaluable. I'm keen to see how he adjusts to the new scrum laws. If he's starting for Glasgow come to 6Nations then who knows!
