Any and all discussion of things rugby-related is welcome. Restaurant recommendations are openly sought. Introductions to eligible young people would be fantastic. Bullying, jingoism, and wang-measuring is not on.
We need to move forwards not backwards, upwards not forwards, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

I don't think big Mike relied on the hit, so much as he relied on being 21 stones of Yorkshire grizzly bear.

Before his mystery illness, I would have said he was one of the best scrummaging props around. Away against Northampton a couple of years ago, I remember he made short work of Tonga'uiha. In fact, at times during that season, you could rely on him to earn 2-3 pens a game, just by bashing the opposition loosehead into submission. What a brute.

Him with Welsh at loosehead was one of the strongest front row i have seen in the last few years.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread V - The Fun Continues
A serious question.
Given that Edinburgh was a record injury list but allowing for the fact that the Weej have a load of players up available because they have a note from Vern Cotter excusing them from PE this week, would Glasgow have enough (decent) players left to loan them to Edinburgh?
In fact, does anyone know what the loan rules are? I imagine they must be fairly strict to prevent any sort of collusion.
Obviously, for Europe you must register named players before they are eligible but does the Guinness have these criteria too?

I questioned this earlier in the thread but didn't generate any response.
There has been a precedent with Geoff Cross and Lee Jones moving 'temporarily' to Glasgow, but there never was the intention of them coming back. I'm not sure how it would work if we were loaning a player just for a game or two. I'm sure there's no issues internally with the SRU, but it will come down to the league rules about registering players.
Solomons has said in the Scotsman today that he's been speaking with Mark Dodson and Scott Johnson about player recruitment for the back row - maybe an ITM/Currie cup player. These guys would provide another body at least, but we've seen in the past that it takes half a season really for them to get up to speed.

A South African!! Never saw that request coming
In terms of loans, for the league there is a minimum (or used to be) amount of weeks you can loan players. Certainly its something that should be looked at. However can't see it happening at the moment, as Glasgow are down to the bear bones for the next 3 league games then its into the Euro games.

To be fair, who else is it going to be! It wll probably have to be someone Solomons has contacts with, and I suspect we'll probably only be able to offer them a deal to the end of the season so don't think we're going to get someone out of the top drawer here.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread V - The Fun Continues
not sure if this has been spotted by anyone earlier in the thread.
Robbie Robinson has not been given a super rugby contract for 2015. Been injured for pretty much a year and didn't play for the chiefs
this season due to a hip injury.
He has returned to play itm cup rugby for north harbour, playing pretty well and earning a call up to the maori all blacks tour. Starting at full back for them against Japan tomorrow.
Would Edinburgh or Glasgow be interested in him?

Swap for Hogg, if he's out the door at the end of the season?

Worth keeping an eye on - if he shoes regular fitness and form he might be worth signing.
If he keeps getting injured though best stay away.

It would be a big shame if Bradbury and Ritchie were not deployed and yet another NSQ player signed. Hopefully any NSQ player to join will only be on a short term basis. No point in adding another NSQ to the wage bill only for that player to be kicking his heels once the full compliment returns:
6. Coman, Leonardi and Ritchie
7. Watson and Grant
8. Du Preez, Denton and Bradbury
Surely that's enough full time permanent players for the squad, and we can just loan Bordill for 2 months to cover the 7 jersey or something like that.

Is there any truth in the rumour that in response to Glasgow's "Come in Fancy Dress" evening Ross Ford will turn out at the Library tonight dressed as a hooker? Accompanied by fourteen out of conditioned Saffers pretending to be rugby players.

How about Tommy Spinks? Is he not EDP at Glasgow, but doesn't seem to be anywhere near the squad.

Er not when 4 of that 8 are broken at the same time and possible call ups to take into consideration.

Fine. Sign a permanent NSQ back row player. Another wasted wage as soon as these freakish injuries abate. I just think the best way of maximising the unfortunate injury situation is to turn to SQ youth, not another mercenary who we'll be desparate to shift off the books come the summer. By all accounts Bradbury didn't look out of place tonight.

Did anyone else see the photie Big Al posted on the Warrior's twitter page? Simply a selfie of his legs in the changing room pre match. He's wearing one Glasgow sock and one Allan Glen's. I think they must have had a warm fuzzy feeling in their clubhouse when they saw that on the telly.
p.s. Bru did you get my last pm?

I think that Nick Cummins also had one sock from St Francis' College and one from the Randwick club.

These are the highlights of NZ vs USA - just wanted to flag it up as there's some really nice rugby that only the AB's can really do which is refreshing to watch. Thought USA might have performed better which bodes well for RWC '15.
and importantly this:

Well, there was certainly a 'warm fuzzy feeling' in a packed-out clubhouse at the Bearyards on Saturday. Watching Big Al was part of it, but over a hundred at a pre-match lunch, followed by a local derby win over Lenzie, certainly helped.
I'd also mention another storming win by the local Under 18's; with both matches preceded by a piper and two minutes silence to remember the centenary of the start of WW1.

Well folks it's got nothing to do with rugby, but I just thought I'd say that on Friday night I proposed to my girlfriend and luckily she said yes!
To show how important she is, I didn't even watch the Edinburgh game at the time....
So queue all the jokes about marriage, mother in laws, etc!

I will leave you with the words of Steve Wright:

Getting a full set of family announcements on these boards, births, marriages, just need a couple more major events and we’ll have collected them all.

More injuries for Edinburgh....
Could we just not ask to play wheelchair rugby against our opponents?
A bit like in that guiness advert when everyone apart from the disabled bloke gets out of the wheelchair after the game and they head to the bar?

No idea who this young lady is but she cannot be worse than the bloke who presents the Warriors HQ episodes. A great face for radio, that feller.

She used to be the presenter when STV did the rugby highlights a year or 2 back, does a lot of stuff for BBC sports and ESPN I think.
Very easy on the eye and seems to know her stuff!

Perhaps, but she's going to have to up her game a bit to achieve 'team representative' status.Majestic83 wrote:George Carlin wrote:http://www.glasgowwarriors.org/news/14/10/30/eilidh-barbour-joins-warriors-matchday-team

To show how important she is, I didn't even watch the Edinburgh game at the time....
So queue all the jokes about marriage, mother in laws, etc!
Congratulations mate
Braver man than me. I am still resisting despite lots of hints from my other half and all our family and friends
Mate I had that for years, and it definitely intensified over the past few months - I feel your pain!

Congrats to RDW. You will find out what it is like to have no money, no opinion on anything, no trousers (she will be wearing them) and no hope.
I saw your dad on Sunday and he looked like he had the worries of the world on his shoulders. Despite offloading you?!
PS Despite this outburst of "normal" behaviour, for the purposes of this forum, you are still a poofy back.

Probably now he's realised he's got a wedding to pay for!
Where'd you see my old man?
For those that aren't in the know btw, IYA knows my dad from rugby years ago, he's not a weird stalker....

I honestly can't remember. I was dragged round that many shops on Sunday, they all started looking the same.
And for those of you who don't know, RDW was adopted. That is the only explanation I can come up with for the difference in RDW's ability compared to his dads
