I see VC mentioned how well Bennett has been playing in his BBC interview. I would assume he's getting the nod at OC.
Congrats RDW by the way.

slightly off topic from this weekends game. Me and a few mates were thinking of going to see the All Blacks train one day next week. Anyone know where they will be training? My one contact in the All Blacks squad was injured against the USA and is away home so he can't organise it now!

Sale's Chris Cusiter is available for Sunday's LV Cup trip to Leicester having not made the Scotland 23. Dimes set to pick a strong squad.
Well bang goes the theory about Cusiter's absence being down to injury.

Surprised at Cusiter not even making the bench, Pyrgos has been playing well but think Cusiter has been in better form.
Any other squads been announced that gives clues to who might not be in the Scotland 23?

possibly although I think Cotter will go for a bit of continuity so get a feeling we might not see Cusiter till the Tonga game.

Big surprise on Cusiter - of all the scrum halfs he would make the biggest difference coming off the bench.

I would have dropped Laidlaw - as really not is the same league as Cusiter or even Pyrgos on form.
he has been playing his best, which is almost as good as Cusiters normal
Ah well - there never is a day that I am reminded I know very little about anything :-0

Exeter Chiefs back Byron McGuigan targets Scotland call-up
New Exeter Chiefs signing Byron McGuigan says he is targeting a call-up to the Scotland team.
The 25-year-old back, who has featured for Scotland A previously, left Glasgow at the end of last season and moved to Sandy Park at the weekend.
"If I'm playing well enough hopefully I can get recognised by the Scottish coaches," he told BBC Sport.
"They've got some talented boys there, but I definitely feel that I could bring something to that team."
McGuigan had hoped to break into the Scotland squad at the start of the year having featured for Glasgow in the Heineken Cup, where he twice faced Exeter.
"I was a little bit unlucky last year after the A game as I played really well and then injured myself in the gym, which kept me out for the whole of the Six Nations period," he explained. "So I'm just going to work hard here and see what the coaches have to say.
"The Premiership's well known and Exeter are playing really well so it should be able to put me on the radar."
McGuigan joined the Chiefs having played for Bay of Plenty in the ITM Cup in New Zealand.
Despite being in Devon for less than a week, McGuigan says he would be happy to stay for longer than his current deal, which runs out in the summer.
"From what I've seen so far it's an awesome club, they really look after you," he said.
"I'm just going to work hard and hopefully if they offer me another contract in the summer for another couple of years I'd definitely like to stay on."
Got to admire his ambition!

Certainly has lots of ambition about him, from what I saw in highlights in the ITM cup he played pretty well for BOP and started all but 2 games for them scoring a few tries as well. Played mostly at 15 for them and looked pretty useful. Will have to play extremely well to get a look in for Scotland though!

That's all fair and well, but if they are combined with Strokosh, Hamilton and Lamont at 12, it kind of negates the positivity!
Not a massive surprise if Beattie is dropped as Castres have really struggled this year, and he's missed a few games through injury and that red card he got.
Saying that, Ashe hasn't played a massive amount for Glasgow...

If those selection rumours are true, then it's a great reward for talent and form, as well as showing faith for the new talent to shine.

Where do these rumours come from?
I can understand the logic re Cusiter. Prygos has played well for Glasgow, and is comparatively inexperienced, so he can benefit from gametime.

I'm liking the look of that team! I think Arthur Ashe showed up brilliantly against Bath - Bennett and Pyrgos aside, he was a real highlight in that match.
Assuming that Ryan Grant is reasonably fit, I'd opt for:
1. Reid
2. Ford
3. Murray
16. Lawson
17. Grant
18. Cross

Two things Brumeister;
first would you really persevere with Can't Throw Won't Hook? ( I'd rather have GC's mildly xenophobic auntie Senga)
Secondly, read your PM's.
Also there are not nearly enough Glasgow players in that squad.

Castres have listed Gray as unavailable but don't mention Beattie. Maybe this means he won't be involved in the 23? Would seem to support the Ashe theory. Saracens have Hamilton in their squad for Sunday's friendly against Western Province which probably means Kieran Low will be the bench lock.

Not having Cusiter in the 23 is a bizarre decision up there with ignoring Barclay and Brown. But then I suppose there's a slight possibility that Cotter might know more about rugby than me.

Pretty sure I seen him today in a hotel in Glasgow. It was either that or someone who looked like him. This person was also wearing a Scotland Fleece and watching rugby video's on their mac, so I am guessing it probably was him, or a look-a-like who also works for the SRU

Re: Scotland v Argentina, 8 November
I have a sneaking feeling that we will see Denton on the bench as well. Beattie does not seem to have played for a while, am not sure through form or injury and Dents seems to have come back in reasonable shape. He has pretty much had 2 full games now so should be able to come off the bench in an international. He is a player that could have genuine impact. Ryan Grant certainly hit the street running as well last week, he needs to be in the squad as well.

Well the Scotsman are suggesting the same kind of team that has been banded about on here recently, but given I'm fairly sure they get all their information from this forum, that's no surprise!
Looks like Tommy Seymour is 'fit' too - I'm amazed given the severity of the head knock he got, and the fact he was knocked out.
Hopefully he is actually OK and isn't kidding himself.

Doc Robson is a good guy. I'm pretty sure Seymour will be ok to play if Scotland's most popular Lion says so.

For the first time in a while, I don't have many complaints with that! Dickinson slightly surprising but have no issues with his selection.
Not sure what strokosh offers off the bench (Brown would have offered so much more) but again not a massive issue with it.
Very exciting back line!

Very happy. No square pegs for once. All I ask is that we stick with this relatively settled squad and let the combinations bed in.
No unenforced chopping and changing from now until the RWC. The injured guys need to be given their chances and we need to develop a full squad's worth of depth but stability is now key.

It feels like the closest thing to a "form" selection that I can remember.

Re: Scotland v Argentina, 8 November
Chuffed to bits with that selection. Not far off what I thought it would be.
The core of Glasgow players should promote stability and continuity for the winning mentality and strength of character we need to see the game through for 80 mins.
Given that we also have players that haven't made the match day 23 like Scott, Cusiter, Visser, Murchie, Jackson, Horne, Welsh, Grant, Brown, Barclay, Fusaro, Beattie, Denton and Wilson, I think we have moved into a much stronger place.
Good luck to the young guns and the seasoned campaigners. We have much to look forward to.
C'mon SCOTLAND!!!!!!!!
The core of Glasgow players should promote stability and continuity for the winning mentality and strength of character we need to see the game through for 80 mins.

What's going on here?
Players all in their most comfortable positions and arguably the best players being selected.
Is this the twilight zone or something?

Where's Matawalu? Or DTH? Or Nakarawa? Major selection omissions, here.
Just a minute. Which thread is this?

Overall I'm very happy with that team, the closest to a full form team we've seen since Andy Robinson was at the helm.
But surprised by Dickinson, Stroker covering the back row and the lack of our most potent attacker Visser - but it's only the 1st test so we shall see what happens.

Do we have any background on the opposition?
Is it their full squad, are they all fit, is it the end of their season?
Is Hugo Porta in the matchday 23?

Can't complain about it being a mainly soap dodging based team. They have been a cut above Edinburgh this year and last.
Dickinsons inclusion is interesting, and a welcome one. He didn't cope well with the smashing style engagement of the Scrum however he has excellent technical strength and IMO could do very well with the Gray lads and either Harley or Cowan providing some extra power.
Delighted for Ashe too

Blimey, when was the last time we had a Scotland team published that we pretty much all agree with and there is no moaning. I am certainly happy with it and you can only say that it looks like a team picked with VC's stamp all over it. I am glad he has gone with the untested players, in the past the experienced ones have let us down time and time again. Lets see what the youngsters can do!
It may evolve a bit with injuries and people returning to fitness and form but it does look like the basis of na pretty good team. Looking forward to saturday.
