World Tour Finals Thread - Match & Prediction Thread

First topic message reminder :

So the ATPs premier showpiece event hits the O2 on Sunday. The sixth showing at the O2 and yielded only 3 different winners. Very interesting this year. 3 virgin qualifiers in Cillic, Raonic and Nishikori. Can we see a new winner? Can Nishikori and Raonic win the biggest title of their careers to date? Federer will have an eye on the DC like his compatriot Wawrinka, though he is woefully out of form of late. Has Murray much left in the tank to win his first title here at the O2? Can Berdych do a Davydenko and strike out of nowhere? Will it be a routine Djokovic victory?

For me the 2 that qualify from each group will be:

Group A

1) Djokovic
2) Raonic

Group B

1) Murray
2) Federer

Djokovic/Murray final

Winner: Djokovic

Apart from Djoko and Fed chasing the EOY #1, others are here for the money and London food.

Maybe Stan will have a say too.

Djokovic v Cilic another dreary predictable match - this is the worst opening round of matches to World Tour Finals for a few years. I've been twice to this event at London and had the good fortune when I went of seeing some really entertaining 3 set matches. Still, here's hoping it will pick up - I'm reasonably optimistic Stan v Djoko will serve up a treat and Fed v Nishikori could be a decent match.

Two complete and utter drubbings, day ticket holders may not be best pleased. Noones fault of course buts its bad luck to get two destructions like that.

Berdy was pretty poor, but I cant really blame Cilic. If he played better he might have made it 6:2 6:2. What can you do about Novak like that really?

Cilic certainly hasn't recovered from his post US-open trauma, on the other hand Berdych is just happy with the pay check he recieved for making the numbers in WTF.

I'm afraid to report that it was me in the public gallery today, the guillotine wasn't all that fun to watch. Can't really complain after seeing Nadal, Novak and Fed all on the same day last year, but these fixtures were...uninspiring, to say the least.

It was always going to be a demolition job in the second match, but I was amazed to see such a heavy capitulation from the Berd. His body language was awful throughout and the forehand leaked errors like a shot colander. Stan looked good and solid though, and Novak just blitzed poor old Cilic.

I've now also watched the Bryans three times, and watched them lose all three! Sorry guys, I'll stay away next time Wink

Bryans made a complete hash of the first set TB almost like Raonic v Federer.

Federer v Nishikori promises to be interesting, must-win for Murray if he wants a further chance, otherwise it is an ignominous exit.

Wonderful the way Novak played against cilic, can't see him not doing well enough in this tournament to seel up the #1 ranking. Wawrinka also did just as well. It is embarassing that two of the top 8 played like rank amateurs. Novak wins all his group matches and there is nothing Fed can do to take the #1. Still Wawrinka v. Djoko is going to be really tough and could go either way. On this form though I take Novak. Best indoor player in the world and best all around now since 2011.

He seems to be perculating in for like he did at the tail end of 2010 and next year could be a big year for him in terms of maybe having a multislam season like he did in 2011. He seems to have really taken to fatherhood.

We must be due for a three-set thriller today after the demolition jobs yesterday. Must say I'm surprised by the one-sided nature of some of the contests. Thought this was going to be a hard-fought WTF. Could still be, I guess

Agreed. That sudden injection of pace and willingness to take the ball early are gifts that not many players have.

That being said, set and break up...Fed playing a lot better, Kei missing a bit more.

He wasn't scared by Andy, and he IS playing some good stuff here, but consistency is lacking.

The way Andy was playing hardly strikes fear into you though. I wonder how much he is struggling with that wrist injury. Anyway top stuff from Roger and surely a win here as now looks sure and he will be certain of a semi-final spot.

Looks like he will take this (and comfortably so) but it's only in this past game that we're seeing some quality from both. Don't think either of them is remotely close to their best.

Well perhaps a throwaway term I used there however he has been relatively solid and good enough to get the job done in straight sets against an in-form Nishikori. Federer fans have to be pleased with that.
