Huw Richard Forbes Jones? He almost has enough names to be an Edinburgh player, maybe 1 or 2 short

Edinburgh target Naiyaravoro, The Big Fijian, scored 2 tries and got a yellow card against the Rebels yesterday. Looks a good prospect and looks almost impossible to stop on a one on one. Could be a good signing.

The Smellies 4 points clear at the top, having won 2 more games than anyone else.
Proud of that. I honestly believe that our biggest threat at the moment is Munster.
If we can get any sort of points at all from the next game at the IIP, then I think we have one-foot in the playoffs.

Lucky for you that you only have to face Edinburgh twice
Seriously though, Glasgow have learned how to win games across the squad. You guys could have easily lost tonight yet made it home (thanks to McKenzie...) whereas Edinburgh managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory last night. Winning is a habit, and well done soap dodgers.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VI - Banter Boogaloo
The massive Fijian scored two tries for the 'Tahs this weekend
Well worth watching all of it (albeit some terrible defending) but his tries are 6:30 and 9:00
https://youtu.be/Kp59MbXJ6Ko
A great line for the first one, and he looks near impossible to stop from close range.
If Edinburgh already have him it will be a hell of a steal, because I suspect he will go up in value significantly after his Super Rugby season!

I see Naka has been cited for an alleged head but during the ospreys game. I did see it at the time and they reviewed it but deceided nothing to do. He might get in trouble here but probably at the lower end of the scale. Hopefully we can keep Mckenzie for another week or two, we might get to see Toolis as well.

Oh dear, I really hope for Glasgow's sake that he doesn't face a long ban or anything of that sort. He is absolutely essential to the Glasgow pack.
McKenzie should complete the season at Glasgow. We have more than enough cover at Edinburgh and McKenzie could really use a run of games.

In principle Edinburgh have sufficient locks to lend McKenzie to Glasgow, in practice not at the moment. We have (in no particular order);
Bresler fine
Atkins fine
Gilchrist injured
Toolis B with Scotland
Toolis A on loan to Glasgow
McKenzie fine
So at the moment we only have three available locks. To put one out on loan would be madness. Once Gilchrist returns it's a possibility.

We should get Alex Toolis back. It's only a bench role, with Bresler and Atkins more than likely to complete 80 minutes for us.
We may also get Ben Toolis back from Scotland duty, assuming Cotter continues to see Jim Hamilton as a better bet to start with Jonny Gray. On that note, I don't suspect there's a bookie in the land willing to take bets on Hamilton being yellow carded against Italy.

Only thing with that giant Fijian is he seems a bit Visser-esq in that the commentators said (when he scored) it was practically his first time on the ball.
With Asam Ashely-Cooper going, I'm not too confident they'd want to let him go, esp with the RWC maybe taking Beale and Folau.

Super Rugby season ends at the end of June. It's whether he has a 2015 contract with National Rugby Championship team Greater Sydney Rams.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VI - Banter Boogaloo
Interested in getting peoples opinion on this.
Is it just me or is the current Pro12 league set up seem a bit strange. There is now next to no difference between finishing first or second now that the final venue is predetermined. I can understand why they made this decision as it leaves very little time to prepare for such a large event but say Glasgow finish 1st and ulster finish 4th but both get through to the final? it seems to take away the reward for being the most consistent team.
I think the trophy should go to the top team then maybe have play offs as a warm up before next season starts. or have a play off with the top teams of other leagues eg prem/top14.

I would like to see the top team get the "league trophy" then the top 4 play for an additional honour.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VI - Banter Boogaloo
I don't think the play off system is the problem - it is the fact that the Pro 12 is a multicultural league.
In England the final is always at Twickenham so you can plan every year, and there's no debate about who hosts it.
We need to try to find an acceptable solution for the final.
Worth pointing out the 1st place does get an advantage as they play the 4th team.
I don't think it would work if 1st place won the league and the rest played for something else - what would they play for??

Don't know if this has already been mentioned somewhere else, but Salford RL's Kiwi fullback Kevin Locke looks to be considering a move to Union and Scotland!
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/locke-linked-rugby-union-switch-8695309
He's only 25 and looks rapid, to say the least. Best of all he's Scottish Qualified!

Yeah, not ideal.
Maybe that's why Salford are looking to offload him...
"Mark Dodson, CEO of the Scottish RFU, confirmed at the start of last week there had been an approach from Salford to discuss Locke."
Or it could just be that he's unhappy and fancies a change. I can't see Koukash wanting anyone in his all star squad who didn't want to be there.
I'm sure though that the SRU would do due diligence regarding medicals etc.
Whatever happens this is an exciting prospect, especially with Maitland unable to score for love or money.

Further news about Locke.
Looks like they're making him a firm offer! How on earth did Scott Johnson get involved? What is his job now?

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VI - Banter Boogaloo
This would suggest it was Edinburgh who were interested, unless Glasgow have a specific requirement that their squad needs a Scottish qualified New Zealander who wants to play full-back but we play on the wing...
I think we'd be best off training him for the wing tbh he isn't going to displace Hogg anytime soon at international level. I'm also uneasy about luring him to play in the World Cup, it seems a bit unfair that he gets picked ahead of someone like Lamont who's played for Scotland literally for ever. Nevertheless having Hogg, Seymour, Maitland, Lamont, Visser, Brown, Fife and this Locke guy to choose from for the back 3 isn't a bad place to be.

Kevin Locke - Daily Express wrote:"I qualify for Scotland and Tonga and had offers to switch codes and join Edinburgh before I signed for Salford. When I played against Scotland for the Kiwis in the 2013 World Cup quarter-final, one of the Scotland coaches mentioned to me that I should play for them, so you never know."

They are described as 'official CVs', so the players obviously have the same agent.

"Mark Dodson, the chief executive of the Scottish Rugby Union, has told MEN Sport that they... will be making him a contract offer to consider a cross code switch." MEN
Given Salford want to offload him and the SRU are giving him an offer, looks like a deal is pretty much done. Suppose they'll want to check out the medical requirements first.

It's probably just their agent trying to drum up interest to haggle for a higher salary.

From looking at his Twitter he has said to some Salford fans that he is staying.
Tbh if the sru are trying to tempt league players I'd prefer them to go for matty Russell.

I'm not all that disappointed by this (I also had a quick look at his twitter account and he seems adamant he's going nowhere). I'm sure he's a good player, but he really doesn't seem all that fussed about playing for Scotland. The quote that keeps getting mentioned about him playing against Scotland and someone mentioning he should play for us, really just seems like he doesn't really want to, but might consider it, if we could convince him.
Plus his injury record is far from ideal.

I don't know how much we can read into his comments, because all it might mean is that it is far from a done deal and he's not wanting to burn any bridges with the club and fans.
Or, it really is all nonsense and he isn't going anywhere...
Think Steve Shingler - he was tweeting about how Scottish he was, and even used the hashtag #jockforlife then a week later found out that he couldn't play for Scotland and had to stay with Wales!

Was very impressed by Russell when watching him in the RL World Cup, he's fast and very elusive and I'm sure he would score tries in Union. Born in Ayr so certainly worth the SRU keeping tabs on him. I know the SRU approached Danny Brough a number of years ago but he wasn't interested in switching code.
Locke does look a fantastic player though and would be a very exciting player to watch, just the sort that the Glasgow fans could do with the departure of Niko and Maitland?

As it has now been identified that the boy was born in Ayr he is now automatically given a place in our world cup starting XV!
