I think some people are going over-kill on Berdych collapse. I don't buy it. Yes his levels dipped but a mental collapse - I say no. Remember this is the same Berdych who has the better of the two in the head-to-heads so how did he manage them? Murray raised his game at the start of the second set and for me Berdych couldn't live with it and no I don't think this was about stamina either as Berdych had been on court much shorter space of time than Murray. Plus lets remember he came in here with him on the back of supposedly the win of his career and was a new man with new self-belief (never bought that but some were saying it) and had the advantage of having inside info on Andy from Dani. Truth is Berdych is a two-dimensional player where if Plan A isn't working he doesn't have a Plan B to go to.

I don't think it's overkill CC.
Berdych went from the 71% points on the first serve and 18 winners in the first set to 36% points won on the first serve and 1 winner in the second.
Pretty spectacular collapse.

Murray got used to the pace and outclassed him after the first set, as he did last time they played in a slam. No collapse or reason for Berdych to feel bad. His only real failing was that momentary lapse at 40-0 in set 3 but that's concentration not nerves.

This stat about no player having won at Oz title having lost their 1st three finals makes me smile. Are there even two other players who have made 3 Oz finals without winning one?
Novak's obviously clear favourite but Murray has a punchers chance.

Yes but temper that with the other facts of the first set where Murray's first serve wasn't firing too well, his return game had yet to click and he never looked settled until towards the end of it. Murray upped his game and Berdych had no answer. He had moments after that where he hung in there like the fourth set but he just never had that higher level in him.

If you put it the way I put it with match on-going:-
In the first set Berdych played very well and Murray had yet to get into the groove but the set could still have gone either way (though Berdych deserved it). In the remaining sets Murray played the better and Berdych less so and those sets (barring the last) were comfortable set wins for Murray.

I dunno about Andys chances, If its Mr incredible I reckon 4 sets. Andy will have to play as good as sets 2 and 3 the whole final to stop him.

Yes that's more or less what I saw. I would maybe add to that the game where Murray was serving at 4-3 down in the 4th set. Missed 5 or 6 first serves in a row and was rolling in his second serve. Berdych smashed two back for winners but should really have won that game. Difference in the game from 1st to the rest was that Murray (as he said himself) played more aggressively earlier in the rallies and did not allow Berdych to dominate them.

Djokovic and Wawrinka.
Djokovic has hit 181 winners to Wawrinka's 241.
Wawrinka 54 aces to Djokovic's 48.
Djokovic has hit 105 UEs and Wawrinka 203
Wawrinka has converted 25/57 break points 43.8%. Djokovic 19/57 which is 33.3%.
Where's the smart money?

Andy Murray has the wrost winning percentage of major finals for any multiple major winner in the Open Era(Craig feel free to bring up a stat from 720BC...). 2/7 28%. Come Sunday that will read 2/8 25%.

I'm not sure how many ATP 500s you watch Gerry, but not many will have Dimitrov, Kyrgios, and Berdych all faced before even reaching the final.Gerry SA wrote:

Kyrgios is a youngster, who actually played some inspired tennis at times in front of his home crowd. Facing both Dimitrov and Berdych before the final is pretty tough for a normal ATP500 field.
How many ATP500 tournaments do you watch ? Apart from a few, the field tends to be depleted of most of the top players.

Wish I was off to watch tomorrow's match. The 2013 match was genuinely one of the best I've ever seen. Drama and great rallies from start to finish. Be kinda disappointing if it was 3 sets.
I think it will be tight, but not 5 sets. Not this time. Novak in 4.

You said the comparison was with a ATP500 field. He played Dimitrov in the QFs ? Why on earth do you expect All-Time-Greats to turn up in quarter finals of Grand Slam tournaments ?Gerry SA wrote:

It's true Murray has not had the toughest draw he's ever had to face, but at the same time he has had some stern tests. The anger towards Murray finally getting a standard draw and then doing well is mind boggling. For the vast majority of his prime, he's had to constantly have to beat Djokovic/Murray/Nadal to even REACH the finals. And in both the slams he's won, he's beaten Djokovic. If not anything Murray deserves an easier opponent in this final; given how ridiculously difficult the players he has had to face. I did a review of the players he had lost to between 2010 and 2013 away from RG and it consisted solely of 4 players: Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, Wawrinka.

Murray always gets the sympathy card...Oh Murray's had the big 3 blocking his way to winning majors etc...Didn't seem to deter Delpo in 2009 or Stan in 2014. Murray simply needs someone to do all the hard work and cash in on everyone else's hard work.It Must Be Love wrote:No one is arguing Murray is as great as these 3 players. I am looking forward to a classic, or Stan's hammering of Nole, which means that it will probably an easy straight sets for Nole.

New day and a fantastic way to start, Katie Swan has made the final of the girls Juniors, winning 0-6 7-6 7-5 and saving 3 match points while apparently dealing with cramp. At only 15 years old, hopefully this is the start of a promising career
