We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
Silva has just won me a tidy £640, next goalscorer and City to score at least five, woohoo.

The papers have been on our backs all season and obviously we'll get credit for our best performance of the season in an important crunch game.

Lets make no bones about it - United are the biggest team in England if not the world. It doesn't matter their form or quality- They will allways get attention.
I was chatting to a dutch fan and a scottish fan the other day in europe watching the chelsea game and I said your clubs are big(celtic and Ajax)- and maybe it was the language barrier but i didn't mean good - I meant Big!
There is a big difference.. Unless you are Real/Barca/Bayern!!
I Like liverpool , and I am not a huge United fan- but I do believe if United do not go on to getting a CL spot the team is in a major amount of sh-t!
And that wouldn't necessarily be good for our league.
Next year united will top 8 the CL- we need to stay on top of our coefficient.

After this season, I'd rather see Utd be in the CL, than Liverpool. I can see Arsenal pipping City to second, and Utd getting fourth..........just.

I'd love to see City finish 5th tbh, the way they treated Shaun Goater was a disgrace and it would serve them right for playing James Milner all season.

That's where I was going
It can't be a coincidence that the season where Milner finally gets some proper game time is the season City fail to mount a decent title challenge. Okay, Aguero may be 10% fit, and Kompany may have had a Freaky Friday moment with Pascal Cygan, but still.

Milner is a bit of a full guy. I don't think he's that bad, but that said, I haven't seen much of City, to say.
Is Yaya as influential as he used to be?

Milner was the perfect/ideal sub for a good team. He isn't the perfect starter.
But a lot of the midfield issues city have had isn't on him- the two Fernadoooooos are as much to blame.
Yaya is still a beast of a player- just dont forget to give him a bday cake!!

When he's up for it, frankly hes looked bored this year. Fernando was an unnecessary signing that hasn't worked as well

McLaren will be back up in the north east next season, most probably with Newcastle, rather than Sunderland.

He inherited an awful squad, somehow kept them up, then wasted tons of cash to make his awful squad a God-awful one. No surprise he's gone, a surprise he lasted this long. The Adam Johnson thing definitely hasn't helped him.

van Aanholt, Buckley, Rodwell - not great signings. The wages for Jones were good value, but the wages for Pantilimon, Gomez and Reveillere were not. Defoe was a good signing, but only if you play a system that suits him. Lone striker is not it.

Na Hughton is our man. Garcia was a much much better manager than Gus. Poyet is overrated.

I think Poyet has hit the ceiling in terms of his managerial carrer.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
He didnt do a great job with them at any point, never could get them up for anything but the big boys last year and this year hasnt done that. One dimensional manager who couldn't take Brighton any further cos he knew no way of changing his plan. Same has happened with Sunderland, but you get punished more harshly in this league. Paolo would have done a better job, i'm convinced. He benefited from Di Canio's pre-season and training style last year which is specifically designed to get the more out of players as the season goes on. This year he has just sat there and watched his team go to hit.
And he's an arrogant swine

Glad he's gone, couldn't stand him. basically the only good thing Poyet seemed to do was constantly beat Newcastle United. We have the Derby in two games time, hopefully we can finally beat them, but then there is the new manager effect lol.

Better for Sunderland to have a rubbish manager and struggle, surely? Better the devil you know and all that.

I think it was too late in the day. But if they survive they will use his sacking as the reason and if they fail they will say they shouldnt have sacked him so early.
I think its a stupid move. But none of us know the internals at sunderland.. We know that the passionate fans can provoke a response from the owners...And that could be there downfall.
I think if Aston Villa hadnt brought in sherwood and with that a hugely positive response quite late in the day poyet would have stuck..But they wont find a manager until summer- so its on the care taker- and that care taker at QPR does not have it in him.

Allardyce should be well up the top of their list, whether immediate or end of the season.

If hes not staying at the end of the season and doesnt retire, all if's, then QPR and Sunderland should both be throwing money at him

There's time when I disagree that English football is far behind our European competitors. Then I look at Liverpool's line up, the form team in the country, and realise its true

One tie is one tie, I still think Chelsea are in the top 5 in Europe, but the chasing pack in this country are so poor

Not a fan of Sterling at wing back, can't defend at all and is constantly out of position.

Someone should tell the players they can get off the bus. Haven't turned up yet, stays like this it's a matter of time before Swansea get one.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Not far behind. Just a cyclical thing I suppose. Don't think there's really a dominant league in Europe anymore. I would say though that the one thing that EPL really prides itself on, the "all action passion", has probably been the undoing a bit. Thinking of Terry wasting precious time holding on to the wrong jersey, and neither him nor Cahill taking the moment to sort it out (surely just needed a "WTF are you doing"), or Ox getting a little over excited chasing the game against Monaco, and being dispossessed in the build up to the third goal.
Also, this game is pretty bad
