Why is it unfair for Spieth to be paired with DJ?

Re: THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Els and Snedeker with Tom Watson; I'd say we narrowed that down pretty well.
Pretty vindictive to put Oosthuizen with the Woods circus for the second Major running. Not happy about that at all.
No Jimenez for Keegan Bradley; he's got Jamie Donaldson instead.
Jamie: "Hi Keegs. Remember me?"!

Duval, Cink, Curtis...
It seems the Open committee took a bit of the US Open method regarding pairings

Why unfortunate? Does it matter who they play with? I'm sure Spieth won't care.

Ah right, wasn't sure what you were getting at. Thought you were meaning Johnson being a big hitter would be intimidating.
I see the world number 241 has his usual 9-10am slot. Gerrymandered. Might take some stuff to chuck at him.

What is the significance of the bolded names in the tee times?
Did you copy and paste the tee times? Hiroyuki Fajita ? Sounds like the specialty dish of Japanese/Mexican Fusion Restaurant.

Just wondered what the significance of the bolding was. No big deal either way.
Heard on Golf Channel that Laura Davies was having travel difficulties from the US Womens Open to St Andrews for her WGHoF induction Word is that Arnold Palmer sent his private jet to Heathrow to pick her up and get her to the ceremony.

Re: THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Does anyone seriously think the WG HOF would have left a male player hanging out to dry in this way? Someone, apart from Dame Laura, must have seen this coming - why couldn't they have organized a plane to stand by for her?
'Course, anyone in their right mind would have shifted the ceremony to Tuesday.

I did like the look of the Daly, MAJ and Duff group. Shame that we now have the slim Duff.
As always the weather is a huge factor but looking at the forecast it seems as though it will be pretty much the same for everyone. Dry on Thursday then damp on Friday. But this is Britain and all bets are off that it will be the same come Thursday!

Goes without saying Kwini, an English 1-2-3?
And thanks, felt really good to be out there again......if my bet comes in this week I'll be able to afford annual subscription again....I haven't told him my golf playing days are all on his shoulders though, I think he's got enough on his mind!! Got a decent draw though, I really have a good feeling for him...fingers crossed!!

It sounds as if Laura Davies's plane (was that Arnie's?) had a mechanical issue and she couldn't get to her Hall Of Fame ceremony from Lancaster, PA.
But two USGA bigwigs did. Perhaps they charterd a jet but said "no room for you, Laura"?

Of course not!
Apparently she arrived in time for the HOF reception so she'll have been glad to avoid having to give a speech and thrilled to get a few drinkies.

Just out of interest, who's been the lowest ranked golfer to win the Open in recent times, say this century, I'm guessing it was Todd Hamilton but how lowly ranked was he and have there been others outside the Top 50 or even top 100?

JAS - owgr site has Hamilton at 82 in 2003, then 26 in 2004, presumably after his win. It's a good question, Darren Clarke had slipped a bit pre his win, Baker Finch maybe?JAS wrote:Just out of interest, who's been the lowest ranked golfer to win the Open in recent times, say this century, I'm guessing it was Todd Hamilton but how lowly ranked was he and have there been others outside the Top 50 or even top 100?

Re: THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
It must be Curtis; Hamilton (56th before his win) had already won (Honda) earlier in his year, plus he'd been playing well in Japan the year before.
Curtis had done next to nothing in comparison.
Clarke was 111th.
But Gary Boyd is currently 453rd (DC is 456th now) so he'll be the answer when he wins.

Being ageist as well as sizeist and sexist now, are we? She is actually 51. I watched the induction on TV last night and she had pre-recorded (obviously anticipating travel problems) a very humble speech of thanks - almost embarrassed. She certainly doesn't hog the limelight and richly deserves the honour and her Damehood (if that's the female version of a Knighthood).

I always seem to think of Hamilton being a real turn up, some random touring pro. But if he was world ranked in the 50s, then it cannot have been a massive surprise that he won.

DamePutt,
Hadn't realised that Laura Davies is dyslexic.
Sure she would have been chuffed to get there in time for the reception; it would be nice to think they'll "recognise" her at the next induction ceremony - which will doubtless honour ET Woods, among others. DLIII? Weiskopf??

I'm not being ageist or sexist, but Davies has looked about 50 for 30 years. Nothing wrong with being sizeist though. As for her hogging the limelight, she hasn't performed at a level for ages where she deserves any limelight.

Well I run 60km a week. Run 10k in less than 37 mins. Walk to work every day.
Probably fitter than 99% of Pro Golfers.
However, even if I wasn't a good specimen, it wouldn't preclude me from commenting on the lamentable shape of "professional" sportsmen does it?

It was him or Duval or Calc or Sir Nick or Lyle or any number of various amateurs.

Not that I would play Draftkings, but I have had a brief look at the link you posted earlier. I see you have a budget of $50,000. What would Jordan or Rory cost for a tournament?

Re: THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Here are the prices for St Andrews:
So if you pick a couple of the "Chalk" players, you have to pick a couple of long shots. Picking Spieth and Johnson means you almost blown half your budget on two players and your other four players have to avg $6650. There is really no way to pick 3 players over 10K. Its a game that forces you to look at the journeymen and who has the best chance to make the cut.
Edit: My team with Boyd also has Oosty, Furyk, Frankie, Hideki, Henrik. $49,800

Re: THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
"Conspiracy" against Laura Davies?
Whether conspiracy or just sheer discriminatory laziness, this is a pretty thorough account of the angst among the LPGA players over the Dame Laura Hall Of Fame horlicks:
http://www.sbnation.com/golf/2015/7/14/8955643/laura-davies-world-golf-hall-of-fame-induction-2015
No confirmation here that Mike Davis and the aptly named Tom O'Toole from the USGA chartered a flight and made it, omitting to take Her Ladyship with them, but it pretty much scotches the Good Ole Arnie rumour that he sent his plane to pick her up.
Seems like everyone dropped the ball here, either deliberately or unwittingly. All probably laughing smugly all the way to their respective banks.

Wait a minute, am I missing something? When has it ever been anyone's responsibility to provide or arrange transport for another person?
Why didn't Laura Davies, no doubt due to her considerable accrued wealth sort out her own bloody transport?

super_,
Who knows?
What I DO know is that, if you're going to organize an honour for three people, the least you can do is to ensure they have a plan to attend. The whole issue of timing for this occasion made it possible that there would be a problem, and it seems no-one did what you or I would have done to MAKE it happen successfully.
