OWGR-August 2015
First topic message reminder :
I think it is time for an update and new thread. The OWGR Top 100 should all be invited to play the PGA Championship tomorrow.
Nice playing from Troy Merritt for winning the Quicken Loans to get an 11th invite to B-Stone. Also Marc Warren got a 11th hour invite for his 4th place finish in Scotland.
Kiradech Aphibarnrat did not get an invite for winning the Paul Lawrie Match Play but is 14th in the Int'l Prez Cup standings.

And what year was that?
2013 when Tiger was easily the worlds best player or 2014 when Rory won 2 majors?

Maybe not dominant. But Stenson contended in all majors and won the FEC and RTD.

Is this an owgr first?
The owgr "Strength of Field" for this week's Challenge Tour event is 4. One more than for the Moscow stop on the European Tour.

Re: OWGR-August 2015
It seems very unfair that the winner in Moscow will get 24 points to Cordon winners 12, given the respective SOF's of 3 and 4.
Although without boosting both events would be worth 7 points to the winner.

Quite.
The owgr needs to recalibrate its subsidies for European Tour events; a set limit for Challenge Tour events is compatible with the web.com Tour so wouldn't change that.

Re: OWGR-August 2015
I actually think awarding ERV points further down the rankings than 200 would help. It is sort of weird to say that someone in the top 500 of their sport globally isn't good enough to contribute to the rankings.
It is certainly crazy that the event in moscow is being boosted to more than 3 times its true value. (7 to 24). Even if McIlroy and Spieth decided to tee it up in Moscow it would only just make the 24 mark. (They bring 82 + home ranking points, and 24 requires 91)

True dat mac. 3 players barely inside the top 200 is farcial. Even Kafelnikov stands a chance of making the cut.

72 pts for the D--Bank winner. The #1 Projections change a little, but not significantly.
Spieth would be #1 next week if players maintain their position after round 1.

Lee Slattery cracks the OWGR top 200 with his win in Russia.
Should either Stenson or Fowler win today, they would go to #5, still a well behind #4 Bubba.
Jones and Knox could get into the Top 30.
O'Hair could get into the Top 50.
International Prez Cup Watch
Danny Lee needs a solo 43rd to keep ahead of Bowditch
Danny Lee needs a Solo 7th or better to pass Jaidee
Matt Jones needs a Two way T2nd or better to pass Jaidee
Brendon de Jonge needs to win to pass Jaidee.
Matt Jones can pass Danny Lee with a Solo 3rd and Danny Lee finishing worse than 19th.

Re: OWGR-August 2015
Almost guaranteed that Spieth will be #1 player when the rankings are released tomorrow.
However, if Rory finishes the equivalent of 43rd or better, Rory will retake the #1 on September 14th.
Rory will be adding tournaments to his divisor for the BMW and Tour Championship, so Spieth will have a leg up on Rory as the FEX Playoffs finish.

The FedEx Play-Offs are the owgr (72 pts again) gift that keeps on giving! Only 24 for the Italian Job so a huge difference for those able to take advantage - some balance restored the next few weeks I hope!!
That time of year when Tour pros on the Top 50 bubble might be looking at planning their schedule to stay there if they want a trip to Augusta.

Re: OWGR-August 2015
Ryo Ishikawa wins in Japan and Beyong Hun An wins in Korea.
Ryo should get inside the Top 150 and An should be in the top 50. (ahead of Danny Lee but too late for the Prez Cup).
Karlberg moves to around 131st with his Italian Open win, Kaymer moves to 19th with his playoff loss.
Lil Rickie probably gets to #4 with a solo 2nd. Two way T2nd might do it, depending on how Bubba finishes.
Should J-Day go on to win, he will be 1, but his #1 ranking will be vulnerable next week at the Tour Championship. How vulnerable depends on how Rory and Jordan finish.

Re: OWGR-August 2015
J-Day has taken firm grasp of the #1 Ranking. Rory and Jordan can only reclaim the #1 ranking by winning the Tour Championship (and a little help from Jason Day)
For Rory: He has to win the Tour Championship and Jason has to finish worse than solo 15th.
For Jordan:He has to win the Tour Championship and Jason has to finish worse than solo 5th.
I suspect Jason will retain the #1 ranking after this week, but I think he will lose it by year end. I think the only OWGR recognized tournament he plans to play is the World Challenge. He wife is pregnant and due to give birth in November so other than a trip to Korea to play Prez Cup, I don't think he will be playing anymore.
Rory is going to be busy playing Euro tournaments (and the FRYS) so he will have an opportunity to collect some OWGR pts. I am thinking about 6 or 7 more OWGR tournaments.
Jordan will be taking some weeks off (other than the Prez Cup) in the next month or so but I guess he will be playing at least 4 more OWGR recognized tournaments (in China, Japan, Australia and World Challenge)

Re: OWGR-August 2015
Jordan gets the #1 ranking, but he will only hold for three weeks, unless he finds a tournament to play the week after the Prez Cup.
Assuming neither Spieth or Day plays after the Prez Cup, this is what their projected rankings will be for the next month.
- - - - 9/28 -- 10/5 - 10/12 - 10/19
Jordan 12.83 - 12.69 - 12.55 - 12.40
JasonD 12.74 - 12.63 - 12.53 - 12.42

Re: OWGR-August 2015
I don't think Rory's playing again until the Fry's and can't see that yielding enough points even if he should win it. Then some European Tour events.
And don't know that either Spieth or Day will play until the WGC-HSBC (probably not Day as his missus is expecting), then the Aussie Open which will likely see Spieth but not Day.
Rory needs to get going . . . . . . . .

Rory is about 60 pts behind and the only tournament he might play that will be worth that many points is the WGC-China tournament.
I would guess the FRYS would be SoF-40 Max.

Agreed, there's no single event which will get him past either of the J-men.
But he'll be competing in somewhere between 4 and 6 events, Spieth in about 3, Day perhaps not at all, though imagine he'll join the Tiger swoonfest.

How will that work given Tiger's condition? Will he turn up and see them all off at the first? Buy them a drink in the bar when they get back in? Trundle round in a buggy and chat to them in round?

I doubt if J-Day was going to go globetrotting even if Ellie was not expecting.
J-Day seems to have an aversion to traveling. He seldom goes back to Australia to support their tour and never has played the WGC-HSBC China event.

British Masters winner projected to earn 36 pts this week.
Imagine next week's Fry's.com winner will earn more, perhaps 40+.
But if Rory played Woburn instead of Silverado, perhaps that would be reversed.

A reminder from princedrac that Spieth relinquishes #1 this coming week, overtaken by Jason Day while both are in "park".
And disappionting that initial projections of the Portugal event suggest an owgr earning in the mid-twenties, whilst Frys.com will be in the forties.
Adam Scott in Japan, Lahiri and Kiradech in Macau - why didn't Harrington and/or Westwood think of that?

Thanks. What about the winner of the British Masters, Matthew?
Michael Matthew...whatever.
At least it is not a non biblical name like Chesson or Patton.
How is Matthew a biblical name? It's in the bible, but it doesn't make it biblical. Presumably "Matthew" (not that there was one) was called so, before he allegedly met the mythical jewish sky zombie?

LOL, just find it amusing how the anti-god-botherers are so bothered by non-Biblical names likes Wyndham and Chesson and Webb.

What biblical names?
No one is bothered by the names of American golfers, they're just stupid names.

Also find it amusing that those Americans with 'non-biblical' names very often are the biggest god-botherers.GPB wrote:LOL, just find it amusing how the anti-god-botherers are so bothered by non-Biblical names likes Wyndham and Chesson and Webb.

I'll tell you what does annoy about, people claiming people are named after "biblical" names. I've nver heard of anyone called Job, Nebucadnezzer, Bethsheba or Moses. I'm sure the assertion was that Matthew, David, Mark, Luke, Peter, Paul, John etc are "biblical" names, they simply aren't.
Calling your kids Wyndham or Chesson is ridiculous as calling someone Apple or Fifi Trixabelle.

I think you'll find that some of the names you find ridiculous are simply cultural differences.

Not to mention Jesus Gil y Gil, a man who epitomized good Christian values...McLaren wrote:Jesus Navas. That is pretty biblical.
