Welcome to the start of the new season.

As requested, Glasgow's team rep this week is Mrs Finn Russell, and current Miss Scotland, Mhairi Fergusson.

By way of beautiful symmetry, the current Miss Wales, Emma Jenkins, is from Llanelli. How could she not be Scarlets team rep this week?

Glasgow should have Coo, Bluto, Arthur Ashe and Meatball starting so what are the odds on Alex Dunbar playing the last 20?
Mind you we really don't want to see an angry John Barclay lining up for the Scaahletts.

Glasgow reserves to kick the season off with a comfortable win. Fingers Crossed

I don't think we'll see Dunbar here. Either he is fit and will be on the bench in Paris or he isn't and will be given an extra couple of weeks.

I'm not sure the doc in the US was the right place to send him. Surely your man in Fiji that Naholo went to was a better bet?

All* Naholo did was break a bone. That's simple stuff compared to knitting together ligament and tendon damage in a knee joint. 6 months is a commendable period of time to come back from that and I cannot help but shake the impression that someone like Horne is going to get clattered by a massive loosie, meaning that Dunbar may well need to step in as injury cover. I think that Cotter believes this too.

*Relatively. I'm not saying that the man is a big jessie or anything. Not to his face, anyway.

I would be very happy were Weir to be released back to Glasgow around noon today!

Nice work on the OP. I think that's 1-0 to Glasgow already, and of course a hearty well done to Finn Russell. No wonder the kid has confidence!

Laugh That's outstanding!

I'm reminded of one of the scouting scenes from Moneyball (officially the most quotable sport film of all time) where they're discussing a player's batting technique and one of the scouts mentions that he has an ugly girlfriend - apparently that means he lacks confidence.

"I'm just saying, his girlfriend is a 6 at best."

The seriousness with which he says this, and the clear effect on whether they'll sign the player, shows the medieval thought processes that were endemic in baseball until perhaps ten years ago.

I'm guessing that John Barclay will be on the bench for the Scarlets, ready to come on and break a few hearts in the second half.

Yeah that's a damn lightweight lock pairing that wont lead you very far in europe..

Also why did Glasgow sign Puafisi, the guy is hopeless he was scrummaging on his arse vs Dickinson and Dennis Buckley last time i watched him. An incredibly big downgrade on DeKlerk who was at the end of the day the best scrummaging tighthead at Glasgow last season.

To be fair to Toonie he could hardly foresee what De Klerk was up to, nor plan in advance for such an outcome. He'd have expected Cusack, De Klerk and Fagerson to form his trio of tightheads, and I suspect he was caught on the hop having to sign Puafisi.

I still maintain that Cross, Welsh and Low would all make the Glasgow 1st XV this season at tighthead.

Yeah agreed, Cusack hasn't convinced me at all, be it the new scrum rules or his loss of weight i don't know. I have always rated the 3 aforementioned about the same level and it's quite alarming that any of them would walk into the Glasgow 1st XV. Certainly Glasgow should have kept Welsh or make an offer one of the other 2. Puafisi is a terrible signing.

Ps they knew since April there had been a problem with De Klerk so i believe it could have been anticipated.

Glasgow just need to bring on the kids now and quite quickly. ZF and DR both got some game time last year and need to push on now
ZF in particular looks like he will do just that.

I have not entirely given up on Bigike either. He still has hardly played any rugby in the past two years and with a run of games may yet get his former back. He is still probably next in line for a Scotland call up if any of the other THs get injured. Luckily most of the other decent props in the league will also be away at the WC so the playing field will be reasonably even.

I have not completely given up on Big Mike

Just read that Glasgow has more players missing on World Cup duty than any other NH pro franchise. Glasgow has 20 players missing, Leinster is next with 17, followed by Toulon, Sarries and Bath.

Respect. Or something.

Nah, just poor decision making for the most part.

We could then have another "human interest" story in the papers when Rory Hughes shows him round Castlemilk

So... Now we have Schroedinger's Winger.

Toonie he say Big Tacky will be with us for the start of the season. Contractual obligations and all that. Tacky is duly omitted from the Wallabies World Cup squad.

Tacky is in the Wallabies squad for this weekend.

Glasgow play their opening game of the season on Saturday.

So he is a Glasgow player from the start of the season and he is playing for Oz at the weekend. Of course if the Wallabies don't have a fixture this week I'm looking pretty stupid, again, but I'm fairly certain they do.

Actually they are playing the USA and their coach has said,

“There is a specific role for these players heading over here to the US (Tacky and two others), which will assist our preparations for this Saturday's match and the Rugby World Cup,” said Cheika.

“It’s crucial we continue to improve as a collective and having Taqele, Sam and James here in the US allows them to stay connected to the group, and will help us throughout our preparation and training."

So it would seem that Tacky is there but not part of the WC squad and probably not playing either. There but not there, a Glasgow player but not in Glasgow.

Schroedinger's winger indeed. Or not.

Yes they are , but no they're not: he has got the requisite number of caps just not yet.

Seriously though; is he not in breach of contract? Are the ARU not insufferably arrogant in taking a player to make up the numbers in training rather than allow him to fulfill his contractual obligations to his main employer?

Glasgow Warriors v Scarlets, 5 September Empty Re: Glasgow Warriors v Scarlets, 5 September

Seriously though; is he not in breach of contract? Are the ARU not insufferably arrogant in taking a player to make up the numbers in training rather than allow him to fulfill his contractual obligations to his main employer?

Seriously? If he was being held back by Fiji, and not Australia, would people be asking the same questions, or would they be saying how you can't stand in the way of international rugby.

On Scarlets news, Steven Shingler is playing for Llanelli RFC this weekend so unlikely to be in the squad against Galsgow.

Ah yes, Steven McShingler. Another hugely embarrasing episode for Scottish rugby!

Spidey, if you read the full article Cheika begins by saying, “There is a specific role for these players heading over here to the US (Tacky and two others), which will assist our preparations for this Saturday's match......and will help us throughout our preparation and training." it's pretty clear that they're making up the numbers/ on standby. Now that's fine for the players from the S/H whose season is over but Tacky signed a contract with Glasgow which said he would be available from the start of the season.

Glasgow made a point of letting Tacky's agent know that if he was in the Wallabies WC squad he would be in breach of contract, neither the agent nor the ARU were willing to buy him out of the contract so what the fecc are they, the Aru, doing now?

Well the ARU won't be a party to the contract. They're just doing whatever suits them. I presume that it's Big T who is in breach by not showing up in Glasgow at the agreed date and by hanging out with the Aussies instead, and I imagine there's a "robust" discussion to be had between Glasgow and his representatives on that very point when, or rather if, he ever actually shows up.

Schroedinger. Sounds like the sort of chap we'll be parachuting into our World Cup squad.

That's a fairly weak Scarlets line up. Can't see anything other than a Glasgow win, although can't claim to know their strengths.

The toony tombola strikes again - Clegg has been playing the pre season games yet Wight starts, and murchie and Bryce swap positions despite playing in the opposite in pre season!

Ah but the really interesting one is harley in the second row monkey You get the feeling he asked to be put there to make a point.

Well, other than the fact that Glasgow literally have no one else.....hence why they're playing an 18 year old!

Its not the best side for us. But with the exception of Shingler Jnr at fly half, Gareth Owen being dropped totally with Parkes taking his place and Tom Williams on the wing, Earle in the second row instead of Price, and Rob starting instead of Phil John, it is the best we have available given the injury list/RWC.
