Wales vs Uruguay
First topic message reminder :
WALES vs URUGUAY
Millennium Stadium
Sunday September 20th @ 14:30
Live coverage on ITV and S4C
Referee: Romain Poite (France)
Assistant referees: Pascal Gauzère (France), Mathieu Raynal (France)
Television match official: Ben Skeen (New Zealand)
And so it starts.
RWC 2015, first up for Wales are Uruguay. A team of amateur players that are the lowest ranked team in the competition. They qualified by beating Russia, this is their third RWC. They have won two games previously against Spain and Georgia.
Wales are huge favourites for the game but as the Uruguayans are the weakest team in the group Wales actually have a massive pressure on them to perform at the top of their game and set a bench mark score, that should this pool go down to points, will beat the others in contention.
On the back of a disastrous game in Cardiff against Italy, Wales will have had to re-focus themselves for this game.
Wales have never played Uruguay before. Our A team played them once back in 2001 where a young Shane Williams scored two tries and Gavin Henson excelled at fullback for Wales to win 66 points to 22.
We have no idea what damage teams like England and Australia could do to a tired Uruguay team towards the end of the pool stages. Wales will need to put a cricket score on Uruguay to prove a point before going into our first major game at Twickenham.
Wales Team
Liam Williams (Scarlets); Alex Cuthbert (Cardiff Blues), Cory Allen (Cardiff Blues), Scott Williams (Scarlets), Hallam Amos (Newport Gwent Dragons); Rhys Priestland (Bath Rugby), Gareth Davies (Scarlets); Paul James (Ospreys), Scott Baldwin (Ospreys), Samson Lee (Scarlets), Jake Ball (Scarlets), Luke Charteris (Racing 92), Sam Warburton (Captain, Cardiff Blues), Justin Tipuric (Ospreys), James King (Ospreys).
Replacements: Ken Owens (Scarlets), Aaron Jarvis (Ospreys), Tomas Francis (Exeter Chiefs), Dominic Day (Bath Rugby), Dan Lydiate (Ospreys), Ross Moriarty (Gloucester Rugby), Lloyd Williams (Cardiff Blues), Matthew Morgan (Bristol Rugby)
Uruguay Team
15 Gaston Mieres, 14 Santiago Gibernau, 13 Joaquin Prada, 12 Andres Vilaseca, 11 Rodrigo Silva, 10 Felipe Berchesi, 9 Agustin Ormaechea, 8 Alejandro Nieto, 7 Matias Beer, 6 Juan Manuel Gaminara, 5 Jorge Zerbino, 4 Santiago Vilaseca, 3 Mario Sagario, 2 Carlos Arboleya, 1 Alejo Corral.
Replacements: 16 German Kessler, 17 Oscar Duran, 18 Mateo Sanguinetti, 19 Franco Lamanna, 20 Agustin Alonso, 21 Juan De Freitas, 22 Alejo Duran, 23 Francisco Bulanti.

I just replaced Huget by Liam Williams in my fantasy team and now this! Hope it's not too serious though.
Yeah I did see that Huget had to be carried off, not sure what happened though as I missed that bit. Is he out of the world cup?

Please get Priestland off the field, I don't care if they put Ken Owens at fly half, but jesus I'm sick of seeing Priestland screw up.

Priestland needs to spend a whole week doing nothing but practice kicking to touch!! Pathetic.

Why is it that when I've pointed out the bleeding obvious about Priestland on numerous occasions I get slagged off? He's proving me correct again.

He shouldnt be anywhere near a Welsh shirt, why the hell Priestland, Day and Jarvis are anywhere near the Welsh squad is shocking. I know they have been biging up Gareth Davies but Id be happy to see him off the field as well.

Only hard core Scarlets fans think Priestland is a decent player, all the rest of us have 2 eyes and can see how cráp he is.

Gatland having only 13 backs in his squad is looking increasingly like a very stupid decision. I hope I'm wrong.

Corry Allen. another injury for Wales, they (WALES) are not having much luck with injuries this RWC.

Uruguay needed a card or two long ago. This is what Poite brings to the game.

Had laugh at the commentator just then, saying that Priestland brings "precision and control" - who has he been watching all this time?

Re: Wales vs Uruguay
Surely Wales will be starting to think that they wish they played Dan Biggar today instead on Priestland. What with the kick for touch he missed and now the kick at goal.

Re: Wales vs Uruguay
Shane Williams - quality try scorer, horrendous commentator
The forwards should be the reason we could rack up a huge score. Our set piece and pick and drives are so dominant. When we try to go wide early we make errors. Like another Cuthbert knock on.

Wales looking more than ready for their Eng game next week.
I don't know this is the test Fiji are but it will be a nice sharpener for them.
Probably favourites over Eng considering Engs pack problems?

The backs have been poor. For me this is the worst game of the tournament so far.

it is in the sense it's not too sharp and Uraguay look terrible. But it is giving Wales a nice run out.
They can win in Ireland so they won't be fearing Twickers that is for sure.

Agree the backs have been shocking Cuthbert dropping pass Amos all over the place with his passng and catching and when the waves start it is usually a poor match.

Sadly, I agree. The back line would be slaughtered by better opposition.

As Cuthbert done enough this game to keep him in the squad for next week?
Or is it a question of because of the injuries Wales have they do not have a choice but to play him.

God I wish Halfpenny and L.Williams were fully fit - as it is we are going to see Cuthbert or Amos on the wing next week, which is pretty worrying.

Uraguay getting a lot of turn overs. you would think it would be the other way around Wales getting the turnovers.

If this team played this way against Fiji they would lose, especially with Poite reluctant to yellow card offenders.

In an 8 try romp against the worst team in the competition, Cuthbert hasn't looked like scoring or even making a few yards?

At least Amos is stopping any front line players getting njured he should not be in the squad two years too early. I think England will put 100 points on this team as the will take such a pasteing by the time they play the last group game.

That's a good point alun and "if" points difference is important England will also know exactly what they need going into the last pool game.

Re: Wales vs Uruguay
You have to take your hat off to Uruguay they put up a good fight today. Forced a lot of turn overs and caused a lot of knock ons. Yes Wales won easy, but it was like men against boys. Wales being the pro's and Uruguay playing catch up .
A good game never the less and a good win for Wales. shame about the injuries though.

Apparently Lee come off as he was injured, I thought it was just a tactical change. We won't have any players left by next week and will not get out of the pool.

20 turnovers and 13 handling errors wasn't to be expected either.

Interesting, how England not only have a week break between all their games and no shirt turn round like other teams, but also have the weakest team last so they know the points diff that may be needed. Not that I'm suggesting any fixing of the fixtures...
Never mind, when England lose to both Australia and Wales, then points diff shouldn't be the deciding factor.
