Welcome to Season 8 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game.  Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to.  If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (SJE) as to how the situation will be resolved.

Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players.  If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (SJE) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.

Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 23 players.  Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1993.

Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:

  • Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.
  • Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will receive two additional bids to be used exclusively on academy age players. These players must be bid for on the National League Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by the RFU on its own merits before being accepted or rejected.  No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
  • Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by the RFU against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.
    Player Draft
Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will participate in a player draft beginning the week of June 22nd. Both sides will be allowed to draft two players each. The draft picks will go as follows; 1. Worcester 2. Wasps 3. Wasps 4. Worcester.

    Round Bidding
There will be two rounds of bidding. The first window will run the week starting June 29th and the second the week starting July 3rd. All sides will be allowed to sign one player each during the window. These bids are not protected if you do not have the funds in place to bid during the window you will lose the bid.

    Open Bidding
From July 13th the foreign market will be open to all bids similar to previous seasons. Due to the world cup the window will remain open till the end of September.

Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation

Compensation will be paid as follows

£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other

All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the National League Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players.  Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be European Rugby Champions Cup, European Rugby Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches.  These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Failure to meet these deadlines is punishable by the addition of three match points to the oppositions final score, unless both sides fail to do so. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Sunday. Managers will pm the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved).  An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.

Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result.  To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.

In addition, each team must have the following:-

For domestic competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.

For European competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 6 of those must be in your starting XV.

At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.

All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).

Failure to comply with these rules will result in a 1 league point deduction.

If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.

Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.

Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.

Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.

£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
Bonuses will be awarded on a scaled basis i.e. 2m for 5 games, 1.6m for 4 games and so on
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc upto a maximum of £5m per fine.

Agree with those Steve. I'd have Daly in the squad, the rugby he is currently playing is just brilliant. Sometimes he tries a little bit too much to be creative, but all of last season he was great and has continued that this year. His ability to cover so many positions makes him ideal for bench.

I'd have Simpson there. Robson is a great player but he's not getting Simpson's starting shirt for a while and he offers so much, especially with his box kicking. Again I'd have him on the bench, espc ahead of Wigglesworth. Not sure on Wade at the moment, he's good in the tackle but gets pulled all over the place positionally.

Wasps on the verge of having a very good team - Piatua at the back has clicked with Daly and offers so much in attack, looks a world class player with his step and power. Apparently we are trying to buy him out of his Ulster contract.

As I mentioned earlier, his defence is just not good enough. To miss 4 tackles against a toothless Leinster attack is criminal. Jon Joseph would never miss 4 tackles in a game, that's what he should be aiming for if he wants to play for England.

As a Glos fan every year we pray he stays fit. Gives us a real edge in attack. Fantastically gifted player. Only worry is he may have lost some pace after all these injuries. His pace helps him get out of trouble defensively as he often shoots out a bit.

Still young enough to really make an impact if injury free. Gloucester a much better side with a fit trinder. He deserves some luck

Think JDV is only on a 6 month contract to the end of the season, but could always change

Pooly, I've seen 3-4 reports from the Wasps v Leinster game and all say Daly was very good defensively, he's been picked in Planet Rugby's team of the week and again they make a mention of his tackling.

He's not ever going to smash people back in the tackle as he's not built like a Tuilagi or de Villiers.

Have to say I'ev been so impressed by Wasps defence this season, their defence coach has done an incredible job and you can see the influence of George Smith - hope he can help improve the likes of Sam Jones who was another guy who had a big game for us at the weekend.

He's never going to smash people back as he's not a powerful guy, it's not his game. I just want him to make his tackles which he isn't doing.

4 missed tackles against that Leinster backline is not good enough I'm afraid.

If I'm honest didnt really see an issue on the tackling front from Daly or any of the Wasps team - 13 is the hardest position to defend on the pitch - would love to see him involved in the England set up though, we have a lot of young talent coming through - couldn't believe how well Itoje dealt with Picamoles at the weekend, he should be put on the bench for us during the whole 6Nations.

I watched him closely as he's got a lot at talent, he just misses way too many tackles. Play 13 week in will only help though. If he improves he'd certainly be a decent bench shout.

Is best 79 p spent.

Local news sites are littered with pop ups and this forum will be pop up free.

It's everywhere but Lomu passing is a tragedy. 1 yr and a bit older than me and transcended the sport.

Watched him live several times including Hong Kong 7s and 99 World Cup over here and met him at a dinner. Huge loss to the game and still the best offensive wing ever seen.

As Moore said he is one of the only players who could have played any era

Best captain ever and maybe best 7 ever as he played so long. Personally would
Have Michael Jones above him but hard to compare Eras.

Best player ever is tough.

Dan Carter
Mccaw
Michael Jones
Gareth Edwards
Serge Blanco
List could go on and on interestingly Colin Meads is always voted nz best ever player with carter, Mccaw and Fitzpatrick in the mix.

Certainly an all time great.

Hard to have best player- best in position tends to be where I go, and McCaw and Jones are the likely flanks there (with some competition from Hill, Rives, etc)

Who do we think will be the new England captain?

Jones wrote in the Mail that he didn't rate Robshaw as an international flanker so hard to see him keeping the job.

Anyone guaranteed a place? Brown maybe but I wouldn't have him as captain. Risk with Launchbury maybe but I'm not sure he is the write type of character.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Itoje named captain, fresh perspective outside of the camp.

However, when you compare the selection to other countries, in particular SH nations. The captain is either in a succesion plan or within the current group. I cannot think of anyone that would be a stand out candidate, and that for me is a big reflection, on the fact that our team is more a team of moderately good players and no real leadership spine.

I would want our captain to be a in the front five, or at least a forward in my own preference.

If Itoje is made captain I'd give up on the sport I think. That would be madness. Fresh perspective of a 21 yo who hasn't (according to Wiki) played 20 times for his club. That's a sure fire way to ruin an exciting young talent. He needs to worry about himself not the 14 men around him.

Hartley can't be trusted for me. He's had so many chances but his discipline is not good enough for England captain.

A bit disheartening we only have 1 cert on the teamsheet and a fit and firing Foden pushes him close.

Wasn't Warburton captain at age 22?

He actually said "excellent player but more of a 6.5. Definitely not a 7. Don't know what he or the other options from AP would be like at 6"

I think Jones actually said he didn't think he was a 7, which is fair enough.

As he's just said in his interview, the captain needs to be a certainty in the starting XV and we have no idea how he wants to play or what kind of players he wants in that system.

From picking up little snippets, he wants a strong set piece so you could look to George & Hartley being the two hookers. Neither are captain material imo. The only player in the pack who's pretty much nailed is Launchbury at this current time. Marler and Cole have started the season well, as has Mullen and Thomas.

Jones seems to prefer an out and out seven so we could see Kvesic & Fraser fighting it out for that spot. Centre is completely up in the air, lets hope Jones see's something in somebody for the 12 shirt.

Just found that comment Steve:

He said: 'Chris Robshaw wears No 7, but he is a six-and-a-half at best. He's not hard over the ball and he's not quick. He's a useful player but he's not and out-and-out open-side flanker.

'Robshaw is an outstanding club player but at international level he just doesn't have that point of difference. He carries OK, he tackles OK, but he's not outstandingly good in any area. I think that is his limiting factor...

'Steffon Armitage is pretty hard and handy over the ball and would definitely bring that quality to the England side.'

'Ben Morgan and Tom Wood don't play over the ball, and Robshaw only half does it.'

Slade for 12 hopefully. Think we could see a lot
Of changes.

If we need to build for a World Cup can see a lot of younger players getting a go.

Can't see Cole, Robshaw etc being there at next World Cup so expect to as there roles reduced significantly especially after there World Cup performances.

Eddie Jones views are in this article and he questions Hartley but highlights youngs average scrummaging

Eddie Jones big on discipline at breakdown which means youngs, Cole, lawes etc will need to improve massively and cut the string of pens they give away.

I can't see Youngs getting in tbh, Jones as already stated he think he's a poor scrummager.

I'm not so sure, he's just never improved. You think he's turned the corner and then he throws 3 shockers. I'd be tempted with:

George, Hartley + Taylor/Haywood

Give LCD a year to sort his throwing out.

So with Jones now appointed who do people reckon will be in his back room team? I'm guessing he may take a look at Borthwick?
