Welcome to Season 8 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (SJE) as to how the situation will be resolved.
Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (SJE) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.
Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 23 players. Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1993.
Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:
- Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.- Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will receive two additional bids to be used exclusively on academy age players. These players must be bid for on the National League Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by the RFU on its own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.- Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by the RFU against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.
Player Draft
Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will participate in a player draft beginning the week of June 22nd. Both sides will be allowed to draft two players each. The draft picks will go as follows; 1. Worcester 2. Wasps 3. Wasps 4. Worcester.
Round Bidding
There will be two rounds of bidding. The first window will run the week starting June 29th and the second the week starting July 3rd. All sides will be allowed to sign one player each during the window. These bids are not protected if you do not have the funds in place to bid during the window you will lose the bid.
Open Bidding
From July 13th the foreign market will be open to all bids similar to previous seasons. Due to the world cup the window will remain open till the end of September.
Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation
Compensation will be paid as follows
£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other
All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the National League Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be European Rugby Champions Cup, European Rugby Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Failure to meet these deadlines is punishable by the addition of three match points to the oppositions final score, unless both sides fail to do so. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Sunday. Managers will pm the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.
Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result. To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.
In addition, each team must have the following:-
For domestic competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.
For European competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 6 of those must be in your starting XV.
At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.
All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).
Failure to comply with these rules will result in a 1 league point deduction.
If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.
Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.
Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.
Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.
£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
Bonuses will be awarded on a scaled basis i.e. 2m for 5 games, 1.6m for 4 games and so on
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc upto a maximum of £5m per fine.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Nathan Hughes ruined George Ford as well - that guy is just getting better and better, imagine the impact he'll have for England off the bench.
Strange game compared to last week as Wasps just smashed them all over the park - enjoyed that. Daly was just immense, him and Hughes have been our standouts, with Simpson and AJ starting to step up. Piatua has sparked our backline too. Could be a good season for us (at last!!!).
Bath don't seem the same team at all right now, strange what's happened to them but all their confidence has gone completely.

Clermont play some great attacking rugby at home, fantastic to watch. Hosea Gear at 12 again, actually looks pretty good.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Anyone else a little concerned with King rumours of becoming attack coach?
Just watched an interview with Greenwood(his close friend) who stated he had little input at Clermont. If that's true, his main coaching experience has been doing not a lot with the Saints backline?!?!
Over the last few years, Saints have had one of the least imaginative backlines in the AP. If their pack fail to get on top, they really struggle to get anything out of a game.
I thought Jones might have looked at Ali Hepher at Exeter who play some fantastic rugby.

I'd want Mauger in above anyone else, think he's fantastic and done a great job already at Tigers. Wouldn't be worried with King, in fact anyone must be an improvement upon Catt...
Saints have been good up until this season, but that's largely because their pack gets them on the front foot. They haven't replaced Manoa and its cost them this season massively, the sooner Picamoles gets there the better.

That's what I'm worried about Chris.
They have a strong set piece yet they backs rarely look dangerous. They have the least tries in the AP this season and players that have went to the club that were previously world class have regressed(Kahn/North).

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Isn't just down to one person at that club - they based their game on forward power, getting over the gainline and letting the backline loose - they haven't changed their style in the forwards and its costing them as other teams have got more physical.
With Kahn I thought he was exceptional in the Rabo, but has failed to take his form into the AP, while North has had that succession of head injuries and not regained his form.
AP got a lot, lot tougher over last two seasons and Saints haven't recruited anywhere near as well as Wasps, Bath, Tigers and Quins - think that's more of the issue.

It does feel that since they won the AP that they have rested on their laurels a little, and in the terms of recruitment as well.
Whereas you look at say Sarries, they have developed and grown since they won the AP and can mix up their game plan, you can't really say the same for the Saints.

Does that suggest that King is a bit weak then if he's unable to stamp his authority on the team?
If we're going off Saints back play, King is not a good attack coach imo.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Agree with you Fluxy.
Saints style of play comes from Mallinder - attacks coach isn't just backs they do the whole team and when you look at their offloading game it is very good once it gets going - they just aren't an expansive style of team and haven't adapted at all when their pack doesn't dominate.
Look at Bath as well, they have a great attacks coach as last season showed, but this year they don't look anything like they did with a lot of players off form - can't say it is the attacks coach that has caused that. Sometimes things just don't click at all.
I'd be happy with King, happier with Mauger (a lot happier).

King is backs coach, not attack coach, my mistake.
No matter how bad Bath are playing 1-10, they still look quite imaginative in the backs.
Saints are just one dimensional and unable to lock defences if their pack doesn't get on top. Hopefully he won't get the job.

Agree with pooly re hepher. He is apparently outstanding. Read in the times that jones met with Baxter and his coaches ( he is meeting all Prem coaching units) apparently he was massively impressed by hepher but hepher said he does not want to be considered as still learning his craft.
Think King could be good but is unproven. Would rather we bought in a wc proven coach. We are the richest union with cash to burn so go and make a statement of intention

I've read a few things saying that Jones has been instructed to have an all English coaching set-up. If so, he's starting the job with his hands tied behind his back straight away, we have no world class coaches.

What they lose on dynamism they gain on control and kicking. Top player halfpenny and will add to wasps.
They need a bit of calm sometimes. Halfpenny much better defensively also.

Smith is having a year off apparently.
Bit of an off fit Halfpenny for that Wasps backline. He's not the most attacking of FB's and his kicking is negated with the options they already have. Piatua has been amazing, I'm surprised they haven't went for a similar player or tried to buy him out.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
Piatua has played more games at wing for us than fb due to Wade's injury. Has been a great signing, but with Halai starting to show good form I'd love to put out a back three of Halai, Wade and Halfpenny - has a bit of everything, throw in Daly, Leuia and you;ve got some attacking threat there. Gopperth looking good as well.
Crazy when you think that if Tom Varndell didnt make that tackle on Sam Vesty a few years ago we'd have gone out of business.

No he hasn't.
He's played 5 games at FB and 2 on the wing. He's looked fantastic at FB to be fair, he'll be some loss. Halfpenny has nowhere near the attacking prowess, I find it an odd signing if it goes through.

Since Wade's injury should have read.
CJ we are after a lot of big names - we were meant to have been very close to getting Tuilagi, but with a view to moving him to no12 to partner Daly and he dpesnt want to play there.
Would prefer some additions in the pack, better second row to partner Launch and a top class TH. Got some good depth in most other positions, Robson is pushing Simpson to up his game week after week, Gopperth and Jackson doing the same.

Not like you to get your stats wrong
Wasps starting XV is as strong as most, they just lack depth to really to compete.

Would be good for England if Manu did go to no12, would fix a v big problem for us , especially if Slade is out as he must have been a shoe in there. Just can't see how you can't pick him for England though, give him some games and get him on form and he just scares opposition as just a freak of a player.
Really want to see Daly given a go at no13 though, he's been so good for us this season and hopefully he'll be in the EPS.
Who else do people think could get into the EPS as expecting some changes for Jones to make it more of his squad as opposed to Lancasters.

Daly's problem is he's not as good as JJ (and his poor defence obviously)

Daly as 23 is ideal IMO, covers the outside backs and an attacking option to break up the game and a long range spare kicker

Agree with you CJ.
Been quite a few articles about Daly's defence and how much it has improved this season, I like Joseph but over next few years expect Daly to improve more and feel he has more attributes that could make him a better all round player too. Reminds me a bit like Slade in that he looks very composed in the big games and has time when he has the ball. Thing I like about him this year is that in previous seasons he'd always look for the flash 30 yard pass, but he's rounded up his game really well.
I'd also want to see Jack Clifford in there, along with Itoje. Think all three of those players have potential to be world class. Roko at Bath has also been playing very well and must be close.

They can write a 100 articles on Daly's improved defence, it doesn't change the fact he's not great there and gets targeted.
23 would possibly be an option but he's not as good as JJ to start.

Lol
Hughes is the other one I'm looking forward to putting on an England shirt, he's getting better and better in every game - him, Itoje and Clifford in the pack, alongside Slade and Daly getting in the backline, makes some good options for us.

Re: Season 8 Homepage III
I think both Hughes and Daly would be great impact subs. Daly can play anywhere and has magic. Think his defence is decent personally but a good big one will always get yards against a good small one. Even Conrad smith poss best ever 13 concedes yards to big 13s like Manu and kurindrani.
Hughes improves every game. Last year did zero 8 work and played like a ball carrying flanker without work rate.
This year carries like a Beast but starting to learn positioning and work rate. Still raw but would be a great man to bring on.

So unlucky. A genuine talent. Just struggles to get back. Lost a yard of pace ( still very quick but was may/sharples quick before) however is stronger than previous. Also has a big boot. He talked of quitting after another injury.
Looked like a hamstring at the match so hopefully not too bad. May injury looked like a knee which is bad for England with Brooke's and a few others out

Cheers Pooly. Will be doing results at lunch time if there's any stragglers who still want to get them in
