Hoggs try was brilliant.
That last passage of play was calamitous though, from the dire restart to the clumsy defence.
Such a shame, this looked like it could be a close game.

Glad to see the Scots are blaming the ref as per usual rather than their own stupidity and ill discipline. If you can't see why the penalties have been given then rugby isn't the game for you

I feel bad for Henshaw and Payne. Both men are clearly unsuited to the positions they're playing. Stander and Heaslip work very well together. This is a scrappy but still entertaining match so far.

Given the chronic lack of possession and the number of penalties conceded, 8 points isn't a complete disaster!

Well of the selection controversies, Swinson is doing ok, Wilson and Weir got a bit of work to do to justify their selections. I can see both coming off pretty soon into the second half.
We really need to score first!

Re: 6N 2016 : Super Saturday Game 2 Ireland vs Scotland Dublin 17h00 KO
To the refs credit the game has sped up a rate of knots now teams are lying off the ball. To his discredit though it's suddenly turned into rugby league.
I honestly can't see anything wrong with half of those penalties. Feel are bit aggrieved.
That said Ireland are playing very wily and well rightly targeting the high balls and clearing the breakdown clearly. And no excuse for Scotland being clueless in several areas.
If we lose I just want to lose properly. Not because of odd decisions.
Ps itv. How many adverts?! Im on my phone writing this and they're still on.

Can we borrow John Hardie and Stuart Hogg when we go down to South Africa in the summer lads? John Hardie especially. He is, for me, the man of the match so far which is awesome considering the possession and territory stats. Everything you want from an open side, genuine class.
Ireland playing well, the better team, but if we drop our standards for 5 minutes, 10 minutes this Scotland team is good enough to really, really punish us for it. big 40 minutes required. Very enjoyable game.

We've been terrible but the ref has been worse.
2nd half we need to cut out the errors, leave the tackle area alone and just work on keeping the ball when we have it.

No complain from me about the ref, apart from the last scrum penalty which was to me 50/50 at best.

Well I'm a neutral and think this ref is exceptionally poor. Scotland seem to have come out looking for turnovers at the breakdown but this clown thinks hes playing a 4 downs and 10 format. once a tackle is made its all stop and reset.

At least we have a bit of a bench to play with this time. Pygros and Horne can really add some pace if they come on and Strauss some go forward hopefully.

I'd like Harley at 6 and Strauss at 8 Asap - Harley to combat stander and Strauss because he isn't Wilson.
This really just the game for Barclay.

It beggars belief how Wilson is starting ahead of Strauss. Maybe there is a sense of culpability for playing too many foreigner in the pack?

Good start from Scotland making a lot of ground up the pitch.

Great from Ireland. It's looking worryingly one sided now though.
Have the injuries done this for Scotland? Or the shorter turnaround? Or bit of both and Ireland being a fine team?

Scotland are so boneheaded it's astonishing. A lot of work for Cotter to do yet. Another yellow card must be coming as well. You have to play to the referee even if he is on the pedantic side. Scotland badly need a good captain to lead this side.

If I was Cotter I'd get Barclay off, he is being really dull in the way he is trying to disrupt Ireland. Will get another yellow if he keeps it up.

"Thanks for playing well last week Peter. Now come on with 18 minutes to go with an 8 point margin to chase with a rattles team.
Ps hope your confidence isn't knocked!"
