Championship Results week five
Real Madrid vs Accrington Stanley
It was the Spanish side that got the upper hand on this game for a couple of reasons. Aguero was able to find a lot of space in behind with van Dijk and Shawcross being told to press high, and in the centre backs Varane and Chiellini they were able to stop most of the Accrington attacking threat. However, the Accrington midfield in Capoue and Dembele has a nicer balance to it, I would have preferred more of a 4-3-3 to allow Pereyra and Kovacic to both attack and defend.
On balance, Real Madrid have the stronger side and get a deserved win today.
Real Madrid weakness - Balance of midfield, Yedlin at right back
Accrington Stanley weakness - Didn't see enough of general playing style in tactics, no real star players in the team
Real Madrid 3-1 Accrington Stanley
Aguero 16, 40 ---- Bolasie 48
Kovacic 77
Crawley Town v Vancouver Whitecaps
This was a very interesting game that was difficult to call. Going forward, Crawley have three stars in Vidal, Insigne and Lewandowski. But defensively they struggle a bit. Especially today as the Vancouver attacking trio tried to overload the two centre backs. I'm just not sure whether playing three out and out strikers is the way, as I would question whether it would end up with just defenders and attackers with not enough coming from the middle of the park. It's difficult to envisage what would happen without seeing it. Ashley Williams did his best to stop Lewandowski, but made one mistake which was enough.
A tricky game to call, but along with the home advantage it is a narrow win for Crawley, despite the three top Vancouver strikers on show.
Crawley Town Weakness - Jagielka and Balanta at CB could be upgraded, Maicon.
Vancouver Whitecaps Weakness - I would drop one of the strikers and play a creative midfielder, needs some pace in defense.
Crawley Town 2-1 Vancouver Whitecaps
Insigne 30 ------ Kane 12
Lewandowski 93
