Real shame, just beating a knackered low quality side now. Nothing to really shout about

2nd is cruel on Albania.
First to be eliminated but some will go through having given worse accounts of themselves

Giroud has been wasteful in the first two games to be fair. Think he's the main weak part of the French side, had they had Benzema I think they'd have been much more comfortable.

Albania should have been 2 points up now. Hope they get something against Romania. France is through and need a draw to take the 1st spot.

Rooney asked "how many welsh players would get into the england team"?
His answer, " Dunno, you will have to ask Roy".
Quite like that answer, amusing.

Payet is a don.
To be honest he would probably be better off staying with us but these performances but numbers up if they do want him. He loves it with us, we have a 5 year contract, new stadium, London and decent £120k a week, but if Real want him he'll go. I'm only really scared of Real cos Zidane, don't think he goes to anyone in England and PSG would have to go £100m I reckon

He's 29 ,he'd be gone for 40 million, if he had a mediocre start to next season for whatever reason and at his age his value would be cut in half. Depends on whether West Ham want to make as much money as possible for him or make a push for Europe again, question is does he want to play in the europa league or the CL...

Dimitri Payet has 14 chances created in 2 games.
Since 1980, one French player has more in an entire EURO tournament: Zidane w/ 15 in 2004.

I promise you now, if he goes it will be more than £40m. If he had a mediocre start we'd sell for £20m?! Bonkers.
We've already had enquirers from Chelsea before the Euros and said it'll be over 60m. It's adding value, but barely anyone is gonna wanna pay 60m for a 29 year old, we don't need the money really and the chairman know the damage of selling.

It's more down to player power these days though, Payet is in his prime, if he wants to move to play at the highest level he'll probably get his wish.

Payet ----Ronaldo----Bale
Can see it already, Madrid always fall for the 'best player of the last major tournament' & throw silly money at it. Only 29, not reliant upon pace, so easily a good two or three more top seasons left in him. La Liga is less demanding too, so can be saved throughout the season to peak in the CL etc.

Payet won't be leaving for anywhere near £40mil, he's 29 and had one good season.

Can pretty much end 'it's the russian's, not us' making trouble. 36 arrested last night, majority English. UEFA won't have the balls to throw any teams out, if they did, we should of gone by now, along with the Russians.

More English fans got arrested in Marseille too and the French admitted they managed to lose 150 armed Russians so not sure that means anything

Too true. I almost wish they would throw England out. It might teach some of the scumbags a lesson. Hopefully they will be identified and get charged on their return home.

England fans hardly covering themselves in glory - but important to note that the French police appear to be as useful as a chocolate teapot

I have some sympathy for the French police in the circumstances overshadowing this tournament, but they've only really managed to ramp up the tension.
Any England fan thick enough to be involved though should have their passports taken off them upon return.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
I think Hodgson is a really poor manager, I think time has passed him by. However, who is the alternative? Doubt there are any top managers that would take the job, which leaves basically looking at who is the best English manager right now...
Alan Pardew? Sam Allardyce? Eddie Howe?
It says a lot, that out of the choices, I'd honestly say Sam Allardyce would probably be the best English manager to take over the England team.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Roy only stayed in the job, post Brazil, because of the issue over an alternative, or lack of it. If we have a poor campaign in France, Roy just has to go, regardless of there being no standout candidate to replace him. We simply can't sit around & waste another two years, we've basically wasted three tournaments on this fool already.

As a Welshman, I would love to see John Toshack in charge on England. You would be begging for Roy back.

Any of them would take it for the money that comes with it, managers are just like the players they follow the money.

Am surprised by the lack of former English internationals going into coaching (where in France you have probably half of the 1998 generation involved in coaching from Amateur to the highest pro level).

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
The French might have more ex pro's going into management, but to be honest, Blanc & Deschamps are extra-ordinary managers. Just think the English ex pro's are a reflection of the lazy English mentality, and are drawn to the easy money of TV punditry. Much more reliable career path going into Tv, than being given six months in an English job & anyway, PL owners are interested in foreigners anyway, so that's another thing that puts them off going into management

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Fair point Liam ... It's clearly easier to start a coaching career in a L1 club. There is enough turnover and the mid table clubs don't mind taking a gamble on a new name for coach (specially if that coach had some playing pedigree).
We also have more than enough former World Cup winners doing punditry here (Petit, Dugarry, Lizarazu etc).

I think England have a really poor set of managers.

Probably Italy marginally with Ancelotti and Conte, no one country produces a great deal of top class managers.

Wenger would be the perfect England manager. Nurturing, hands on, inventive and stylish. Plus he'd have to use players like Henderson who aren't really to his recent style, but would suit the old Wenger.

I've always thought that Wenger should move into international management towards the end of his career. But he's 66 now, so I expect he'll retire at Arsenal. I'd have thought he'd manage France before England anyway.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
So how do we see today's game panning out? Predictions?
Just read the skysports 'experts' opinions on the game...Merson is of the belief we are a cut above Wales and will ease to a comfortable 3-0 win...the others are of the same thinking in general and go for a England win. You do wonder whether any of these so called experts even look at previous history when coming out with this stuff...as Nando showed...one thing we never do in tournament finals is win with ease.
Record from Euro 2000 till now...

Good job there's 4 best 3rd places available in next round
All joking aside I think it will either be 1-1 today or we may just sneak a 2-1 win. We will need to keep the same type of intensity we showed in the first 45 mins against Russia for the whole 90 and I just pray to god Roy gets his subs right this time. Vardy is an absolute must at some point!

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
We are a cut above Wales in reality, only Bale and maybe Ramsey would get into the England squad, the majority of those draws and losses have come against far better sides than Wales.

Think Wales will look at it in context and think a draw is a good result today. Still puts them in pole position to top the group, would need a point against Russia to go through.
For England, loss or draw still leaves them needing a win against Slovakiam
