Anyone's game. Haskell was fantastic at the weekend but has so often failed to back performances like that up.
Just on those two points:
Hartley has been derided for a long time by so many especially in the SH. England fans have always said (ignoring his discipline) that he is one the best international hookers out there. And England fans have always been laughed at for saying that.
Personally I think we'll see the same from Hartley again tomorrow.
And normally I would wholeheartedly agree with you about Haskell. If you had the time to trawl through the endless threads gone by you will see that me and many others have moaned at his inconsistency. On his day blindingly good in a physical capacity, but never matches that game after game.
In the 6n this season however something happened that we didn't expect....he DID match it! And he has in the first test in Oz aswell. Jones or Borthwick or Gustard has him seemingly playing a simple game that suits him and the team perfectly. Again I think we'll see that tomorrow. Nothing refined or such...Just a wrecking ball of a performance...similar to the one that unsettled the much vaunted aussie back row.
Add in Itoje, Robshaw, Kruis, and even Cole as a marauding pack and suddenly Gustards influence becomes increasingly clear.
BUT I'm not getting carried away. We're still a work in progress...and Australia are an extremely dangerous wounded animal!

Huge favourites again for sure. Probably 15-20 point win for them.
Definitely, the 2013 Aussies were really quite poor

No 7&1/2 wrote:Twelvetrees seems gone and Devoto has been 1 of the poorer tourists for me. I'd agree with beshocked (gulp) to a point Mallinder or Slade depending on team makeup.
As I say stranger things have happened but yes I agree regards 36. As for Devoto, yes I've been relatively disappointed (does he have the vision - don't know?) as well. Am I / are we all expecting too much? I'm not sure and equally am uncertain if he's really a 10 or 12? Either way I expect the tutoring he'll receive from Baxter etc. will help us determine the outcome.
Which brings us interestingly onto Slade, because obviously he and Devoto will be part of an exciting Cheifs back line next year. But actually I don't recall ever seeing Slade play 12 and if that is the case where is he going to compete for both Exeter and england; 10, 12, 13 or even from fullback?
So finally is the young englsh oak, the greenest of green wood the true owner of the wand? Not that Harry!

Re: Australia v England, 18 June
Side track side stepped.
So has everyone got their feet firmly on the ground?
On paper I think you'd have to have Ozy down as favorites; SH ref, revenge from last week, do or die back to the wall position, 2nd test lions (melbourne) history, poor pitch to negate our forward power, transition between their enhanced togetherness and our accelerating weariness.
However as they say games are not won on paper......
History beckons but reality is?

Well on to the England match now after the disappointment of the Welsh result (great play from the AB's though). Still feel England are the better team and will win comfortably.

Hope you're right , eirebilly. Wounded Wallabies can be dangerous...
Reckon a lot depends on how the ref interprets the scrum battles - there has been plenty of propaganda going around here in advance of the match

I think England could win. Everything Jones touches these days turns to gold (not green and gold). His luck should run out by next season though .

I feel that the Aussies have the edge n the backline alfie (very tall and strong) but in the pack its England. I think England will again get more forward momentum due to this and pressurise the Aussies.

Robshaw a very lucky man there, on another day that could have been deemed a yellow card for the neckroll...

England overloading on the up-and-unders somewhat.
Never mind, great attacking mindset delivers the try.

Good start from England but the pack got absolutely munched there. Worrying that Aussie can get on top and can drive over that easily.

If I was Jones, I would be considering taking Robshaw off. He is having a bit of a bad game and has Joubert's eye after the neckroll earlier.
Good try from Australia but England really have to sort the re-starts out.

So 10-7 at half time. England might feel they could have been further ahead on the play do far ? But they were under a bit of pressure there in the last few minutes ...make that incredible pressure after the half should have ended

How many times has Phipps been caught? That last attack should have resulted in a try for the Aussies but Phipps was way too slow.
Should not have even been a last attack, Joubert got that wrong.

England are on the ropes.
We simlpy CANT give Australia this much ball in the second half or they'll cruise to a win.
We have to get hold of it, and go through some phases.
Make them defend!
