Re: The Open Championship
Wishful thinking but I would like a four hole playoff. 5th, 8th, 14th and 17th. (All the par 3's)

Wow, this is really something else! Toe to toe exchanging blows, no quarter asked or given. Up for Henrick, but Phil is a legend!

Stenson is on 7 under par for this round. 8 under par will tie the record for best round of golf in a majors tournament.

Given the conditions that has to be the best major tournament in terms of quality of the top two players. Third place was 6 under.

Re: The Open Championship
Just think that's one of the best bits of golf I've seen for a long time. Always like to see a player "win" it rather than the other "lose" it.
Bet Sky must be wetting themselves that the first Open they cover is a classic. Just wish they concentrate on the golf rather than talking about "the Big four" or whatever. Cover the golf, and let it happen.

Re: The Open Championship
I wonder if Stenson will quickly move from the tag of best player without a major to best player with only one major?
Also how come you can't put a bag on the green in the UK but you are allowed to set up a table and trophies on a green?

DJ, Day, Furyk and Love would all make good cases of best players with only one major

Didn't Day shoot -20 at Whistling Straits last year and Spieth with -17....

Wonderful stuff . . . . . . what a week!
Troon looked too good for it to be 12 years since their last Major. Hopefully they get it back sooner, certainly a great test.

Re: The Open Championship
Well Played by Stenson.
Looking like 2003, all first time Major winners.
Stenson only goes from #6 to #5 in the OWGR....but he is very close to Rory now.
Mickelson up to #13 (ahead of Reed and Kuchar)...why wasn't the Olympic deadline after the Open Championship. Phil wants to go!

Whistling Straits was last year. and it was a par 72. As was Kiawah in 2012 when Rory won.

I believe DJ and J-Day will get more majors.
Fred Couples has to be in the equation as best player with one major.
As does Tom Weiskopf and Lanny Wadkins.

My point was that people are quick to determine the last major as the best ever in the media standard wise, Like Tiger won the US Open by 15 shots and the Open by 8 shots back to back....and didn't Bob May shoot -18 and lose in a play off too?

Re: The Open Championship
It looks like JB Holmes has leapfrogged into the US Ryder Cup Team.
Guessing (big guess) the Top 8 now look something like:
DJ, Spieth, Phil, JB, Zach, Bubba, Koepka, Sneds, Kuchar or Reed, Fowler, Piercy and Haas possibly close at #11, #12, #13. Chappell definitely dropping out.

I wouldn't get too hung up on what the muppets on Sky say. What is for sure is that the day Phil shot 65 in the final round of a major while playing in the last group out and didn't win will be remembered for a long time.

3 of the current best in the world never to win a major now have won 3 of the last 4 majors - Day, Stenson and DJ. I suppose it's set up now for Garcia or Fowler to win at Baultestrol.............

Re: The Open Championship
It was a phenomenal R4 from both Phil and Stenson. Hardly a fairway missed and out-of this world putting. Even Spieth couldn't believe his own eyes. Not often you see both players in the last group on Sunday on fire. Even if both players have a history of choking you never really thought that would be an issue.

Re: The Open Championship
Only watched the BBC highlights last night after ignoring all media all day so didn't know the result or any of the events of the day apart from the birdie vs bogey on the 1st.
Looked phenomenal, akin to the final fight scenes in a Rocky film. Absolutely staggering exchanges of birdies and epic scoring, ball striking, short game from both.
Best last day battle for a major I can remember seeing, anyone with sufficient memory have opinions on yesterday versus '77?

Best I've ever seen Roller, though I missed the Duel In The Sun, preoccupied with something much more important: playing cricket for Whyteleafe.
Just when you thought yesterday's action couldn't get any better, it did! Seems like a popular win for Henrik too.

Re: The Open Championship
Credit to Troon for being such a great venue. Challenging, but fair. Best player won.
Definitely time for the old farts at the R&A to introduce 2-3 more courses onto the rota which can produce similar drama, of course they won't though.

Re: The Open Championship
Don't know what the course had to say. Of course it was in good condition and didn't spoil anything, but that's maybe the point you're trying to make? When the players hit almost all fairways, stay out of the thick rough, avoid the bunkers and put phenomenally then many a course would do the job?
