Nacewa - Fiji caps
First topic message reminder :
Watching the Wales-Baa Baa'a game yesterday I saw that Nacewa only has one cap for Fiji, back in 2003. How has he not got more? Has he made the decision not to play for his country or something?
You would have thought a player that has held down a place for a few years now in one of the best teams in Europe would be an every present in a team like Fiji.
On a side note, Martyn Williams is looking a bit past it isn't he?

On the people saying Leinster aren't mentioning the subject, of course they won't as if they even mention they'd like him around during that time, they would cop a reprimand from the iRB.

What? Every team in the World wants their players "around". Saying that, would have no legal effect on them. Stopping him - if he wants to go - would.
But they wont. Enough of all this premature negativity already.

Re: Nacewa - Fiji caps
No team in their right mind would try to stop a player playing internationals, especially not in the WC.
They would find it pretty hard to attract new signings for starters.
The only thing that has come close was Toulon releasing Henson and citing his WC aspirations as a contributing factor.

I didn't say that there would be legal action just a not so gentle reminder.
Greybeard,
I think you'd be surprised what some clubs would do.

Which presumably is why Richard Cockerill said Waldrom had halved his value for the club by discovering he was "English"
Many players are signed in teh NH specificaly because they wont be involved in internationals.
As for stopping players playing, it happens for games outside the IRB windows already. The world cups a bit different though.

Isa Nacewa undecided on WC
Isa Nacewa is unsure whether or not he will take part in this years World Cup as a member of the Fijian squad. He has said that it has been a very long season and he thinks there are expectations within the Leinster squad that he will be there come the start of next season, which is particularly important given how many players Leinster will lose to WC duty.
He also plays down the idea of another Fiji-Wales upset, stating that with all their players back Wales could be WC contenders.
Personally i think it would be a great shame if he didnt play. Hes never going to be capped by New Zealand, that much is obvious and im sure all rugby fans would want to see him on playing in the biggest competition in rugby.
He says his decision will be made within the next couple of weeks. I hope his loyalty to Leinster doesnt stop us seeing this guy in the WC. What does everyone else think?

No worries, the ability to merge duplicate articles is another thing this place does better than old 606

Isa Nacewa unsure over World Cup role with Fiji
Barbarians hero Isa Nacewa does not know if he will be lining up for Fiji against Wales in the World Cup later this year.
Nacewa scored two tries in the Baa-Baas' 31-28 victory over Wales at the Millennium Stadium.
But the Leinster full-back, capped once by Fiji, has not yet decided whether to make himself available for the World Cup.

Thomond the original one is about how few caps he has the one I posted today is about him being unsure if he will play in the world cup or not.
I'm my opinion differentt questions were being asked and by merging both the fact he is unsure if he will play in the world cup or not would soon get lost.

FFS Notch let the moderators do their job in their own way you are acting just like a player that suggests to the ref that a opponent should get a yellow card.

Calm down Cymro! I am merely suggesting the threads should be merged given the topic has already been discussed on another thread.

Cymro,
This debate has been had on that article. Why not continue it there instead of multiplying it?

Some peopled may be here all day and are aware that links had been posted on a particular thread but some of us may come online later in the day,
Do i need to read every thread on page one two or three before I can make a new article ?.
As i said before in my opinion they were totally different subjects .

Re: Nacewa - Fiji caps
Nah no of course you don't have to read every thread before you make a new article. But it's our job as mods to keep an eye out for new threads whose topic of discussion has already been commented on, on another thread, and then merge them so we don't end up with duplication. That's what's happened here. It's just a way to keep the board tidy is all.

Re: Nacewa - Fiji caps
Cymroglan, I wouldn't worry I had some comments on residency merged when there were threads open. Just post away and every now and then the threads will merge. Its so we don't have 1,000 Gavin Henson articles a day
Re: Nacewa - Fiji caps
It looks like Nacewa will be playing for Fiji at the World Cup.

It doesn't say anywhere in that article (that I can see) about Nacewa playing for Fiji.MSR-Worcester wrote:It looks like Nacewa will be playing for Fiji at the World Cup.

That part ^^^
Although the article does contradict itself, so it may not be that reliable.

Kiwireddevil wrote:Cymroglan wrote:You would have thought he would have done his homework regarding eligibility also wanting to play for a particular country is one thing being selected is another.
He was a teenaged boy and impressionable. Though one would have hoped that his management (assuming he had any at the time) would have done their homework. 2 minutes of international rugby (Fiji threw him on at the end of a match to tie him in) is far far too little for a man of his talent.
He was 21 at the time. At that age I find it difficult to believe that he wouldn't have known better, particularly as he was drafted into the squad for the 2003 WC and the game in question wasn't an inconsequential friendly, but the last pool B match, against Scotland, the winner of which would qualify for the QFs (final score was 22-20). Even if alarm bells weren't ringing in his head, someone around him, particularly from his club, must have said something when Fiji called him up.
It wasn't till 3 years later in 2006 that he apporached the IRB about his eligibility to compete for an AB spot. The NZRU had no involvement in it as far as I'm aware.
Does anyone have a link to any comments Nacewa has made on the matter, because I can't find any?

Wonder how Leinster would treat Strauss if he was called up by South Africa for the RWC?

I'd imagine his IRFU contract would be null and void?

How could the IRFU discriminate against Strauss by not letting him go to play for his "country", while at the same time letting Nacewa go?

Re: Nacewa - Fiji caps
Depends on the contract. If its in Strauss contract that if he becomes ineligible to play for Ireland his contract is null and void, well... that's it.
Nacewa was signed as an overseas player, therefore there's no such problem.
