5000-1 - The 2016/17 Premier League thread
The other thread is coming to an end and I think it's nice to have a new memory to take us through this year.
And with the new season starting today, what better time to refresh things and start again. The preamble of pre-season is over: 2016/17 LETS BE AVIN YA

It's that moment where there's fans of all 20 clubs brimming over with nervous excitement, come this time in a few days around half of them will already be moaning over what they then expect to be a long season ahead.

I hope Hull smash Leicester 7-0, and that Southampton begin the long march to the title with a comfortable win over Watford and Elton John.

I expect to lose Monday, but it's nice to be able to enjoy the opening day without the stress of West Ham!

Probably shouldn't overreact to the opening game, but thats a really poor result for Leicester given Hull's build up to the season.

dont think that excuses the weakness from set pieces but he was certainly missed around rest of the pitch. very open midfield today
barkley cross straight in from free kick. think spurs missed their chance last season. top 4 at best this season with their rivals strengthening

Spurs look good. Not sure they're a top 4 team but as we saw with City, there's always stuff to iron out following a summer overhaul. They have stability that City, United and Chelsea don't.

If Guardiola wants to drop Hart, HAS to sign a new keeper. Caballero is not good enough.

Re: 5000-1 - The 2016/17 Premier League thread
Hart gets a lot of unfair stick in my book, but if he wants more of a sweeper keeper then he needs to go Ter Stegen. Think Hart to Everton could well be on, there have been rumours popping up all summer and I'd maybe guess it's why Everton haven't gone after better than Stekelenburg yet.

Re: 5000-1 - The 2016/17 Premier League thread
Joe Hart was always an overrated keeper. He was ludicrously put up on a pedestal by the British media and pundits as being on par with Manuel Neuer or David de Gea. Never was Hart in that class. He had the odd decent performance but he was always willing to provide many a clanger. As for Pep instead of solely focusing on Marc-Andre ter Stegen, he should be looking at Bernd Leno who's equally as good and considerably cheaper.

I would much prefer to have Hart in my team than Ter Stegen, massively over rated.

Re: 5000-1 - The 2016/17 Premier League thread
See, I don't think anyone but the enraged have ever thought he was that good. It's like people who moan before an international tournament about the fans building England up as challengers - it doesn't happen, not least for about 14 years.
He's a good goalkeeper, and has produced outstanding performances. His consistency dipped a lot more last year, but so did City as a whole, and I would not judge him on a bad tournament with England, as everyone has talked about the problem of players being judged one way or the other at major tournaments.

Agree with this - Ter Stegen has failed to beat out Claudio Bravo at Barca, don't think he's any different to Hart in terms of overall ability

That was my line of thought exactly Olly, being number two to Bravo isn't the sign of a top class goalkeeper.

When ter Stegen joined FC Barcelona he was set to become the first choice keeper but he sustained an injury. Bravo came in and took his chance(Bravo is world class in his own right) and then on it ter Stegen has been forced to bide his time.Good Golly I'm Olly wrote:Hammersmith harrier wrote:I would much prefer to have Hart in my team than Ter Stegen, massively over rated.

Claudio Bravo is not a world class keeper in the slightest and as for that last sentence, talk about over egging the pudding.

Can't believe Depay is getting anywhere near the bench at Utd. Must be one of their worst signings ever.
I think there'll be goals in this match. I actually fancy Utd to win the title this year. Chelsea intrigue me the most.

Depay has ability, needs to apply himself.
Quite worried about this game given the line up.
Wouldn't have gone with Fellaini, rooney or mata.

3-1 smith with a lovely strike. Several missed tackles from united in build up as Bournemouth essentially walked across the 18 yard line in the build up.

Only the first game of the season, pogba and mhiktaryan to come in.
Think the title is a big ask for them this season but I expect them to get better.
Never going to be a dominating performance with the team playing today, just glad they won.
