Someone snapped quite an awkward moment at the press match press conference when Gilchrist (on the left) met with Brian Alainu'uese (on the right) for the first time:

Nice to see Bane will get an easy run out for 20 minutes against tackling-optional opposition to say goodbye to the Glasgow fans.

Glad to see Junior getting a chance, long over due and probably only because of Hughes' injury but I always thought he had potentially more about him than Hughes in any case.

Well with an inexperienced Junior on one wing and an experienced yet hopeless Jones on the other, I'd like to think that the Edinburgh standoff could really test their defensive positioning and aerial skills with some probing kicks in behind. That said, when Weir puts boot to ball no-one has the faintest idea of where the ball will land, not least Chunky Weir himself.
Actually, Jones and Junior on the wings has an Indiana Jones feel to it.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why does Hodge persist with Weir?
I mean really! We have a good chance of getting another one over the unwashed but we've half thrown that chance away by selecting he who has no neck!

Jones worked hard and played well against Racing. Since coming to Glasgow, he has learned to tackle well and upped his work rate. Shame Visser did not come over as well....
Happy about Junior getting a go. Lamont has been a good servant but this should be his last year at this level. Junior could yet prove to be a good winger.

He epitomises the fighting spirit and skill level of Edinburgh though.

Jones actually averaged more points per game for Edinburgh than he does with Glasgow.....
Jones is dating Craig Joiner's sister. Must be fun at Christmas; two lightweight wingers comparing missed tackle stats.....

Perhaps Weir is being picked on Cotter's instruction, obviously Tovey looks the better player but with next to no cover for Russell heading towards the 6Ns then perhaps they want to ensure Weir is getting game time.

He can get game time for Lismore RFCs ladies reserve team then! Stop pishing on Edinburgh's parade!
It really is a sad state of affairs for Scotland where stand offs are concerned! Such an important position and for decades we've struggled to find a decent 10!

Merry Christmas one and all! As ever, it's been a real pleasure speaking to half of you on here. For everyone else, I'm required by social convention to dislike you this week, for no reason other than it warms the cold recesses of my heart.
A quick look at the respective cap numbers for the two squads shows a staggering imbalance between the teams, especially in the backs:
All things being equal, this match shouldn't even be close. Almost half of Edinburgh's international caps come from Ross Ford who, let's be serious, is the rugby-playing equivalent of General George McClellan.
Bit of an American Civil War reference there... hope that does something for you guys.

Was McClellan the one who said, "Don't worry, they couldn't hit an elephant at this rang..."
Or was he the pacifist general who's passivity prompted Ulysses S Grant to ask, "If you're not doing anything with the army could I borrow it?"
Lacking aggression, unable to hit an elephant at the line out! Mr Chinhook all over.

It wasn't Ross Ford's lineout throw that lost us the World Cup QF.
I think Simon Taylor politely described Brown's as "lacking shape".

If caps were used as the yard stick then Sean of Lamont would be one of the greatest wingers in world rugby!
Really looking forward to seeing the soap dodgers getting chewed up by the Edinburgh pack!
It's just a shame that we've got meatball playing at 10 so the ball will just get hoofed back to glasgow all day!

For the sake of balance I also think we should discount Sean Lamont's caps from the equation. The cogs in Donald Trump's brain move faster.
You are right though. This shouldn't even be close. We did, of course, say the same last year and the year before that.
Speaking of American wars, I watched The Patriot two nights ago, starring Australia's number one racist anti-Semite. It is a steaming stool of a movie. Thankfully I washed it away with a viewing of Rogue One yesterday, which is most excellent.
Merry Christmas to you all (and Happy Birthday to me tomorrow, just in case you've all forgotten).

BBC Scotland, 2 I think which is up about 970 on Sky. Or BBC Iplayer on your computer.
For some reason the beeb list it as a rugby match, with the implication that it will somehow be a competitive fixture, rather than the Annual Slaughter Of The Effeminates which it will be.

Guys, whatever is said over the next two days, I just want to wish you all a very merry Christmas. It's a delight to spend time on here, and think you're all pretty awesome.
For the record, I'm opening the drinks in five minutes, so this message is entirely sober.

Bet of wishes to everyone, even the Welsh....I will be having a sober Xmas though, the last few years I have spent it with my Gran (who hits 99 in 5 days) and frankly, she is a miserable bugger. Luckily my wife can engage her in conversation and allow me to browse 606.

Yes, Merry Christmas to all of you fine people.
See you on the other side.
Cakey - get your gran cataclysmically p!ssed and ask her about the most memorable stories of her life. She was young in the Sixties for god's sake. She must have done enough snort to drop a racehorse.

Way to go Risky.
The highlight of the festive season so far, for me anyway , has to be the look on MrsPip's face when I said,
"You know when you said that a five thirty kick off for the Leicester game was good because it meant that Feckless Rogue and myself wouldn't have to leave too early in the morning but bad because it meant that poor Reckless would be doing that long drive back late at night? Well I've taken you at your word, darling and booked a hotel."
Oh how she chortled.
Lowlight of Chrimbo, checking my emails on Chrimbo morning to see the one from The National Lottery teling me I had won a free Lucky Dip for Wednesday

See you on the other side.
Cakey - get your gran cataclysmically p!ssed and ask her about the most memorable stories of her life. She was young in the Sixties for god's sake. She must have done enough snort to drop a racehorse.
In 1965 she would be 47, so I can't imagine her being that involved in the swinging 60's. What is scary is that in 1965 she was older than I am now.
Family duties done, just waiting to head back to civilisation, pack by the pressies, get the beers in the fridge, and prepare for the first leg of the bi-annual man shaming for the effeminates

Cakey, enjoy your granny. They don't last forever.
Once, my gran asked me what I was reading.
"Biography of Benny Lynch gran. He was a contemporary of yours wasn't he?"
"Oh aye, we all new him and his family."
"They had some names in those days; there's a fighter here called Gunboat Wilson."
" Gunboat? I went to the dancing a couple of times wi a Gunboat."
"Says here he was a cruiserweight."
"I wouldn't know about that...but he was a lovely mover on the dancefloor. Smashing footwork."
Forget the Sixties, your gran probably swung in an earlier decade.

Funnily enough, last night I brought up that I had briefly watched an STV drama about Peter Manuel. Turns out my gran and grandfather knew him.
Backstory my grandfather opened a butcher shop in 1947, he was one of their customers. She said everyone in that area knew that he was a maniac. In fact another one of their customers, whose house faced onto his, could predict that there would be another murder by the way he was dressed when he left his house.
One day he came in to buy some steak. After buying it he threatened to come back and stab my grandfather if it wasn't tender. My gran was completely freaked out, couldn't sleep in her own house for weeks. Didn't seem to bother my grandfather though. He was made of sterner stuff (but then he worked with the Gurkha's in APAC during the WW2)
My gran also had to go to the police station with the weekly takings from the shop (they banked on a Friday) turns out they thought Manuel had been involved in a murder in England and were looking for English notes, so were getting. They never found any, much to the relief of my gran, as if they had she would have been called as a witness.

Nothing like a festive stabbing to warm the cockles and cheer the heart.
My Christmas was grand - as mad as it can be eating turkey in 25 degree centigrade heat. Bloody freezing, these Dubai winters. All of my Oddbins deliveries came in for my UK peeps though. Love those guys, even though they really don't understand that it really should be okay if I don't give them a UK mobile number.
"Whit's that son?"
"It's a foreign phone number."
"Oh aye? It's very long".
"Thanks very much. Oh, wait, the phone number?"
"Aye. Don't you have a mobile number?"
"That is a mobile number."
"So it just comes, well, straight through to you likesay?"
"Straight through. No ***ing about".
"Well. All right, I guess that I just have to trust you."
"I've just paid though, right?"
"Aye. So that Mickey Mouse bank card did the very Jimmy Dick after all."

I think you're being slightly premature, again, there George. My "Glasgow Special" hasn't arrived yet. I may have to toast the Annual Slaughter Of The Effeminates with my own domestic hooch.
