Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
First topic message reminder :
They're one of about 8 teams to hold that tag - and lets face it it's measured in yards...in points the #1 D was the Pats.
No great defences out there this year, just a lot of pretty good ones. If they had Watt, maybe they'd be great...but they don't
Pr4wn wrote:Good Golly I'm Olly wrote:Pr4wn wrote:Love this Texans D. They're amazing without Watt. Scary.
Amazing is a bit far - they're pretty good, nothing special.
Number one D in the NFL without their best player.

Falcons against Patriots.
Is there any way they can both lose?

Good man! A few general rules that if you follow mean you won't go too far wrong:-
1. Hate on Tom Brady
2. Hate on the Patriots in general
3. There is no "3"... stick to rules 1 and 2 and you will survive any NFL discussion

So who's watching the Pro Bowl?...
Funny how it always seems to go quiet in here Pro Bowl week. Since they moved it before the SB I can't help thinking it actually detracts from the SB by interrupting the build up.

It's just a pointless game.
Nobody plays hard, the skills challenge is the way to go, sack the game off and extend that

Agreed. They'd actually be better making it a flag game and have skills challenge and the flag game add up to a final score to determine which team is the winner. Make it really competitive without half the risk of injury.

Hey look! Kirk Cousins closes out the Pro Bowl with a late interception with the NFC driving to tie the score! Who'd have thought it???

49ers have hired John Lynch as their new GM. First front office job, but he worked for Fox; aka the Matt Millen package.

To be fair on him, Graham dropped it - he had a fit of dropsies all night. And Cousins did chase it down and force a fumble. Can't say he's not competitive.

Yeah, Graham should have caught it but the throw was off target... he threw it to his back shoulder when he should have been leading Graham into the endzone or at the very least, just sticking it between the numbers. It was Cousins' season in a nutshell.... moved the offense up and down the field but at the crucial moment, he was off by just enough to give the game away.

Apparently Kyle Shanahan is interested in taking Kirk Cousins to San Francisco. Or then Cousins and his agent could just be using them as leverage.Number-25 wrote:Hey look! Kirk Cousins closes out the Pro Bowl with a late interception with the NFC driving to tie the score! Who'd have thought it???

The Browns are interested in Jimmy Garoppolo.

So who's watching the Superbowl?
I'm up at 06.15, so may try to watch the first half. Record the rest, then avoid the web until I get home in evening.
Would have taken day off if the Pack had made it but it wasn't too be...

I will obviously be watching live
I can't see how we keep Atlanta under 35 points, so it's gonna be upto Brady and co to keep up which if on their game they can do.

Was having a good chat about this with some friends last night.
One said to me "I think the Falcons will win, I'm going to put $20 on them" to which I replied "If you had to bet everything you own on either team, who would it be?".
Patriots, of course.

I do think if you took away the "mystique" of the pats and just looked at it as two teams straight up, the pick should be Atlanta. All time great offence and improving quick defence.

But, if you had to put everything you own on one team, it would be the Patriots.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
If someone forced me at gunpoint I'd have to go with the Pats because of Brady and Bilichick. But I think the Falcons have got a very good chance. Their O is better than the Pats and probably the best they have faced all year, and their D has been improving at just the right time. I don't hate on the Pats, I'd just like to see Atlanta get one in the win column. Its about time another of the winless teams joined the club.

The hall is a joke anyways
Voting a kicker with the 51st highest field goal accuracy in over the guy with the 2nd most receiving yards and 3rd most TDs just confirms it

It's purely off the Falcons last 2 games when they rolled up points on an injured Seahawks D and a terrible GB D. Belichicks crew should put up some resistance with an injured Julio and Mack

FreekShow wrote:Olly, throw me a tip. You got the first TD spot on last year if I remember correctly?
25/1 on the Denver D I believe.
This year first TD, just based purely off value - Tom Brady at 80/1 is surely too good to pass a few quid on. Taylor Gabriel at 20/1 another worth a punt on
Otherwise I like the following (all with Skybet)
Malcolm Mitchell over 50 receiving yards and a TD = 5/1
Field goal miss - yes = 13/8
Matt Ryan over 320 passing yards = 10/11
Dion Lewis over 40 rushing yards = 10/11
Austin Hooper over 17 receiving yards = 10/11
Mohamed Sanu over 45 receiving yards = 10/11

Go Pats!
I like our chances better tonight if we can stop the Falcons from running the ball and obviously we can't afford to have a down game on offence.

And I guess a 21-0 2nd quarter scoreline in favour of Atlanta is what happens if you dont get either of those things.

In the grand scheme of things, it's not the major point of the evening but it does need to be said...... how bad is Osi Umenyiora at punditry??? For an ex-player, he offers a pitiful amount of insight.
On a brighter note though... at least we can all get to bed at a respectable time.

Worst half NE has played since Kansas city in 2014
Playcalling has been atrocious, players worse. Could you please run it up the middle for no gain to get us into 3rd and 7 more please Josh, it's working great

Pretty much...
Obviously we need the stop at the start of the half, get Blount out because we clearly can't run the ball in that personnel.

WOW, just wow. They're never beaten.
How sick must Julio Jones feel right now? Makes an incredible catch in the 4th quarter and its not even converted into a field goal. That woulda probably killed it.
That final 15 minutes or so was great viewing. Brady is GOD!

Move over the Houston Oilers.... meet the Atlanta Falcons... the new owners of the biggest choke in NFL history.
WTF happened???? I went to bed at 21-3 after the Patriots had started the second half with the sloppiest of sloppy 3 and outs. "This game is done" I thought. Really, WTF happened???
