Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
First topic message reminder :
They're one of about 8 teams to hold that tag - and lets face it it's measured in yards...in points the #1 D was the Pats.
No great defences out there this year, just a lot of pretty good ones. If they had Watt, maybe they'd be great...but they don't
Pr4wn wrote:Good Golly I'm Olly wrote:Pr4wn wrote:Love this Texans D. They're amazing without Watt. Scary.
Amazing is a bit far - they're pretty good, nothing special.
Number one D in the NFL without their best player.

Adrian Peterson to the Saints for $7m over two years.
Not sure of whether that makes sense for either party. The Saints are nowhere near being a contender for the Superbowl.

Fair play on the mock draft Olly... brave man that puts one of these out there.
FWIW, I think if McAffrey is still there when the Redskins are picking then they take him rather than Cook. Word is that the Redskins are split on Cook due to the arrests primarily but also the propensity to fumble.

For those who wish to have a little flutter on proceedings...Paddy Power are offering some ridiculous prices on this draft...
Haason Reddick to be first linebacker drafted - 11/10
Total number of QBs drafted in the first round - over 3.5 - 7/4
1st offensive lineman drafted - Cam Robinson - 5/2
1st defensive back (inc safety) to be drafted - Marshon Lattimore - 8/5
1st WR drafted - Corey Davis - 2/1
1st RB drafted - Christian McCaffrey - 7/2
On all of them - fancy making my money back and more!

Im very happy with the news out of oakland today
A 5th round 2018 pick in exchange for Lynch and a 6th round 2018 pick
Its a risk worth taking even if it does scream PR stunt to keep the oakland fans happy before the move to vegas

Can't see the Browns taking anyone other than Myles Garrett at No 1. Maybe they are hoping someone will want to trade up for Mitch Trubisky? Possibly the Jets?

I can't see anyone trading up to number one, though I can see the Browns trading back up to get their man.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
I think the jets, bills and dolphins all had very good nights - especially buffalo.
49ers obviously dominated it - the only question with foster is that medical, he's going to be a great linebacker.
Bears got fleeced - but if Mitch turns out to be good it'll be fine (I don't think he will be)
I'm happy for browns fans that they didn't reach for a QB - but I'm also very meh on Peppers/Njoku when you had a chance at 12 to get someone like Malik Hooker (who is in a different stratosphere to peppers)
Also loved the Bucs pick of Howard and Washington getting Allen at 17. I think Cincinnati massively reached for Ross - let's put a fragile WR into the cold AFC North.......not good.
Indy and Arizona also got a lot better

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
I'm really pleased with the Redskins' night.... our defense just isn't very good and has needs all over the place but especially so along the front 7. I didn't think we would have a shot at a guy like Allen who seemed like a sure fire top 10 pick. The panic run on QBs and one or two other curious picks ahead of us helped him slide down to us. Finally we have someone to build a D-Line around!
Good night for the 49ers... they'll be pleased with getting Thomas and Foster and the picks from Chicago.
Am looking forward to tonight too... seems like still a lot of potentially very talented players to be had. I'd like to see the Redskins continue to rebuild that front 7 if possible.

We needed a corner, we got one, granted lots of risk surrounding the Conley pick but you would hope they know something
Need to get some help up front for Irvin and Mack otherwise picking a good corner will count for nothing if the QB has all the time in the world to pick his passes

It's an improvement on trading up for a kicker at least
Oakland better be right on their due diligence.

Apparently the team that done all the digging in to Conley's background and cleared him as good to go weren't even the Raiders

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Not the worst draft trade ever, but probably second to the Herschel Walker trade.
Top 3 1st rounder's are probably 49ers, Browns and Buccs in that order.
Steal of the round definitely Allen to the Skins. If Hooker had also dropped that far it would have been a coin toss, but glad they addressed a critical need on DL.
Was going to stay up for round 2 but have to be up early. Just got to wonder if the Packers really got value with King 1st in Round 2? He was slated to go up to 20 places lower.

Looks like NFC East is all D from the Cowboys, Skins and Eagles (well except a WR) and the Giants are going all O. Without fixing their OL I think Manning could be on his arse a hell of a lot next year!
Funny looking at it, I don't think anyone has had a stinker of a draft so far. A few question marks but nobody is saying what the hell are they doing. Bears might be the biggest losers if Trubisky doesn't work out though.
Wondering if this is the most talent rich draft in years?

Mel Kiper seriously challenges Ray Lewis as the biggest douche on NFL TV
Getting rid of Whaley is the right decision, and ultimately he had no influence over this draft (as shown by them picking Peterman up late on to backup over Whaley's pet project Cardale Jones)

Whilst he hasn't had the best supporting cast, he has literally said he barely worked on his mechanics last off season and that's why he basically couldn't throw the ball this year. You gotta put in some sort of work

Can see that the kid is also hesitant on throws because he's scared of getting smashed in the face, too. Much like David Carr was back in the day.

Derek Carr just got paid!!!
I'm guessing there'll be a few raised eyebrows at the price, but imagine it'll all be forgotten about when Stafford signs a bigger deal with the Lions in a week or two

Well, you would say that being a Pats fan, given they're in the AFC.
They have one of the best offensive lines in football, and their offense as a whole can keep up with any other team on its day.

I mean they have a nice offence, but they were 7th in points per game, and 20th in points per game on defence. Pats were 3rd and 1st respectively. It'd have been a no contest in Foxboro - just like the AFC title game against a team with a similar make up in Pittsburgh

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
As a Raiders fan, there is no way we were a threat to the Pats last season with or without Carr. I think we'd have got by Houston, but then that's probably it. On Offense we were fantastic, defensively atrocious though. Khalil Mack was unplayable most of the year (11 sacks), Irvin chipped in too (7 sacks). between them they got 18 of our 25 sacks. As a result of nobody else really contributing on pass rush (next best was two players tied in third with 2.5 sacks) QBs were able to torch our secondary at will. I can't recall the amount of 20+yd plays we gave up last year but it was one of the worst in the NFL. Karl Joseph had a decent rookie year in the secondary and Amerson improved slightly, but Sean Smith and DJ Hayden got burnt time and time again. Brady or Rothlisberger would have picked both apart without breaking a sweat
Heres hoping for a better year on defense this year, I wasn't sold that Ken Norton Jr got to keep his job but c'est la vie, nothing we as fans can do about it. Mario Edwards coming back in to the fold should hopefully help on the pass rush, shame Aldon Smith has p!ssed his chance away as there's a lot of talent there on the field. Gareon Conley should be an upgrade on Smith and Hayden to come in alongside Amerson (just need this stupid sexual assault case to go away)

An a-hole who's brought them 3 division titles and a SB trip. Ridiculous decision, one of the best GMs in the game - he's not afraid to make a big decision and that is what runs people the wrong way, but that's what you gotta do to win in the NFL

Can't act like Belichick without the hardware.
Also make the point he inherited the core of those winning teams. His own picks look fairly lacklustre and his FA picks aren't any more inspiring

Gotta agree with GSC. It seems him and Jerry Richardson wanted different things. Richardson is the owner and Gettleman didn't do as he was told.
Like GSC said, the Panthers have still never won anything and it seems as though he had become a seriously disruptive force.
