In fact i wouldn't be surprised if they got stuffed. Also feel sure that performance will put paid to many ideas that Scotland will or should contribute a decent amount of players to the Lions i'm afraid. Lots of marginal selections will now go the way of Wales after their galactic victory. Players like Hogg and Jonny Gray should go, maybe Seymour but few others if any. pity
You wouldn't be surprised if Italy beat us? Please...
It's amazing how many Welsh have come crawling out of the woodwork after beating Ireland.
If Scotland are so bad how did they manage to beat Wales? How did they manage to beat Ireland (a team you seem to think Victory over exonerates all the rubbish your team has been playing over the past few months)? As it stands Scotland have beaten more of the home nations than either Ireland or Wales and by that logic are the 2nd best team with the second best players in the Lions selection pool.
Wales, Scotland and Ireland are all much of a muchness at the moment. The simple truth is that half the Lions team will be English with the remaining half split between Wales, Ireland and Scotland.
All in all I'm very pleased with the selection. I can't believe that Seymour and Wilson in particular have gotten through their head injuries. Those two in particular got absolutely rattled.
I would have persevered with Brown starting at hooker though. Perhaps Ford is on to use the scrum as a weapon but I would have stuck with Brown who untill last weekend was one of the form hookers of the tournament.
Scotland are still unpredictable IMO. They'll either beat Italy and score over 50 points, or lose narrowly. No middle ground. If it's going to be the former then they need as many Glasgow players as possible .

Anglobraveheart wrote:There may be some sense in having Gilcho on from the start to soak up the early pressure from Italy. He's a bigger lump that Swinson, and we maybe need his stodge to soak up their pressure before they start blowing out of their rear ends at 60 mins.
This then allows a very angry, but big impact Swinson to come on and create a bit of havoc against the tired opposition.
It may not be such a bad idea after all.....
But, if I was Toolis, I'd be well and truly hacked off. I'm sure that this is something that Toonie will rectify.
Sadly I think it's more likely that Gilco will get himself injured inside the opening 20 seconds, get stretchered off for some obscure injury that will keep him out for 6-12 months.

To be fair to Gilchrist I don't think he's had a single injury this season, and has been available for selection for every game!

hes he's just been dogs droppings...
This is a huge chance for him. He may be out of favour with the incumbent Edinburgh management but if he has a stormer, this is a great chance to show off to Cockerill or anyone else that is looking to sign a half decent lock.

Yes... But that's helped by the fact they wouldn't let him play - was it the Ospreys game where Bradbury was hobbling round the pitch, took a bash to the head and then Gilchrist came on for the HIA but Gilchrist came back off for Bradbury to hop on despite being unfit to play?
So yes- of course there's no injuries given he's only got on the pitch for 5 mins in case he gets injured!

Under 20s winning 14-0 at halftime and looking pretty good.
Italy should have had a red - on 40 minutes their player did a late swinging arm to the head. Can't believe he only gave a yellow. The Italian had the audacity to complain about even getting a yellow!

BP secured with 2 quick 2nd half tries - Fagerson just ran the length of the pitch!

Our reserve props are being annihilated in the scrums and Italy pulled it back to 31-17 - massive forward pass for their latest try!

Red card for Italy for pulling our lineout jumper down in the air making him tip over and land head first.

This is a horrendously dirty Italian team - now 2 red cards and should have been another one earlier in the game.

I still can't believe the earlier incident wasn't given as a red.

Scotland win 38-17 in a really good performance.
Our starting tighthead was a bit of s beast (and looks about 40!) And Hunter-Hill looks a real prospect at lock. The whole backrow looked good with Fagerson a standout player.
In the backs the 13 looked a big strong runner and Graham is rapid at 15.
Still can't believe how dirty the Italians were - it was like watching the bad old days of thuggery.

It was cheap shot after cheap shot. The Italians were lucky not to have 3 red cards

Re: 6N 2017 : Scotland vs Italy Murrayfield Edinburgh "THE BACKLASH?"
Gilchrist being pants all season, even more useless than normal, but still able to wangle a start demonstrates that he still has those uncompromising pics of Big Vern safely stashed away in Swiss bank! Seriously though, it is mental that he gets past being the water boy for the squad whilst Jon Welsh isn't deemed good enough to push past the anonymous big beard Berghan.
I would actually prefer Welsh at 4 for Scotland. He tackles harder, carries better, has a better turn of pace and would be a stronger scrummager than Gilco. Granted his line-out might a a tad less effective.
This game now has banana skin written all over it.

Still think it is a massive mistake to let Cotter go, quality coach. I would have him over Schmidt any day of the week.

He was told to buck up his defence before the last World Cup. Moving to Quins - who have some quality coaches - was a good move. And sorry, but Visser has never been "really bad"!

I used to think he was very bad. Defensively very weak, terrible under the high ball and had no handling skills. All he could do was finish (which is his job). Now he seems a far more complete winger.

Tommy Allen has quite the saffer accent. I thought he was half Scots/half Italian.
I hope the second half is more entertaining!

15-0 is not a bad return so far RDW. Shame for yiz to lose Jones as I think he would have been great in the last 20. Matt Scott is not a bad replacement though. Its not a game that has truly grabbed the attention but I hope it gets better in the 2nd half.

Job done to be fair Geordie. Yes the game is pretty boring, but it's a very professional performance.
Think if that idiot winger hadn't butchered two tries and the ten had kicked his pens, maybe 29-16 would be a fairer score line, but as I said Scotland have done all they've had to.
