Utter domination. Ireland is the grave of English hopes. I knew they would win this. Better in every way today. Again. England have a long way to go to be a top side.

What a surprise, you get it clicking against us Wink

All it takes is one line break from England. Being clinical is more important than winning the possession stats.

Cyril will love that - high pitched Seanie.

So much more balance from Ireland with DOC at 4, Hendo at 5, POM at 6 and CJ at 8.

If VdF was fit and at 7, it would be some damaging back 5.

A very deserved lead for Ireland, felt like we barely had the ball. Quite impressed we're only 7 down.

Poor half from England but we can only improve(you'd hope) and we're only a score down. It really can go either way, Ireland have been impressive so far.

Most balanced pack:

McGrath - Best - Furlong
Ryan - Henderson
O'Mahony - Stander - van der Flier

O'Mahony has been excellent. The thing is, the referee has a close eye on him in this game because he infringed earlier in the game and he has a reputation for slowing ball. Still, great to see some real doggedness back in the pack.

Game of two halves. I fully expect England to shift it up a gear in the 2nd half, and particularly the final quarter.

That is how Ireland always play. We usually dominate the possession stats. It doesn't matter unless you convert your opportunities, which we don't. We have had countless times where we are in this sort of scenario only to go on and win the game.

Not exactly the most thrilling game in the first Half.

Ireland playing the better rugby in the first half Lets hope the second half see England have more of the ball than Ireland.

England have finished stronger in the second half. When they bring on the finishers.

So 40 minutes to go.

Come on England.

Given the possession and territory stats, I'd settle for 7 down at h/t. It reminds me of the RWC 1/4 in 2003. England are not out of it yet but can win only if we find our A game for the whole 2nd half.

Cant disagree there. I wish Schmidt would be more open to selections like these. Far too often it is injuries that have forced his hand and ended up with Irelands best performances.

I think that would be us, but if Ireland score a try next and we're bringing them on in the 65th minute it might be too late.

English fresh players have to come on and change the way Ireland are playing ie get them to kick for touch for a change, win some lineouts then starve the IRish for possession and territory.

I'm just thankful to be only seven points down after that half.

England surely can't play that poorly again ? Much credit to Ireland for their domination but they're far from out of sight...

Eddie will be having a quiet chat with his boys right now Smile

Not sure England were that poor, just think Ireland were slightly better.

Yeah I'd agree, I think people are going overboard. We weren't great with the ball, some poor kicking, but actually a few breaks as well and just didn't nail anything. More importantly, we were just defending all the time as Ireland's retention was really good. If they keep the ball as well second half we'll see a similar thing I suspect. It's very tough to play against when it's working.

They've played about as well as they did against Wales and France imo

That's a fair point, it's not like we've set the world alight in every half we've played. There is precedent here. A lot of the "good teams know how to lose when playing well" might become "Maybe they're not quite as good as they think" this time.

Wasn't Cole on his feet clearly there?

It's only cheating if the ref pings you for it. That the Irish S/h got away with feeding his flanker (sic) at the scrum in the first half is down to the ref to spot. And as we know, French referees are referees , not coaches. England need to wise up as well as step up.
