Thats how badly people want to avoid another Independence Referendum. 'Cant vote Labour because they campaigned with the Tories so I suppose I'll vote Tory to save the Union' - Loyalist logic.

You might want to be careful hammer - Irish unionists will demand things not within the purview of the UK to provide - like free movement. Might end up with no brexit at all.

Not even close to a workable majority. But enough to block Corbyns Queens Speech attempt regardless of the SNP and Lib Dems.
May will go today, Corbyn will attempt to form a minority government, get blocked and we'll be back at the polls.

Think latest projections have Conservatives 318 finish? With the DUP 10 would take them to 328. Take away the Sinn Fein seats and they would expect to have a majority of 6 for voting purposes. Not good by any means, but a majority none the less.

Even disregarding that, the SNP and Lib Dems won't come to the table unless single market membership is sat on it.

It is just. SF don't take their seats either so you subtract them from the total

Re: UK General Election 2017 Thread
Would 328 combined not be a majority regardless of SF? The point I was making is that SF not taking there seats gives ever so slightly more breathing room.

Corbyn: "Theresa May lost and should resign."
Interviewer: "But you didn't win either. Maybe you should resign?"
Corbyn: [silence, blinking]
I got a good chuckle out of that.
Oh well, back to normality.

He didnt win a majority but considering where he was 6 months ago and how well he's done its still a victory of sorts.

Absolutely. But just as the SNP had a disastrous night, they too remain the biggest party in Scotland. A victory with some large caveats

True, but they had a truly incredible result last time. Anyone who thought they would keep all 56 seats were deluding themselves.

Yeah but there's a difference between a dent and losing 20/56. That's indyref dead and buried.
But they still have considerable weight to lean on single market membership.
Angus losing is ****ing hilarious though

It's a tough decision for people in Scotland though. When the debate comes down to Independence Referendum, they could either vote for SNP if they wanted one or Conservatives if they didn't. The vote was going to be split on the Unionist side otherwise. They could risk voting Labour, having SNP get in and then IndyRef2 and hope they vote 'No' but can understand why that risk wasn't taken.
This has been a massive disaster for Theresa May, she's a laughing stock.

Re: UK General Election 2017 Thread
Great the DUP propping up the government.
Highlights of the DUP recently;
anti gay blood donation
anti gay marriage
anti free campaigning
telling a lesbian couple they disagreed with their lifestyle choice
paying their mates to install boilers costing the tax payer £400 million of overspend
raiding the coffers to pay for flute bands to get new instruments
setting up a building regeneration project that practically excluded those in catholic areas
Nama scandal
wife of the leader having an affair with a teenager whilst funnelling him public money to start a business
being unable to form a government of their own with Sinn Fein
Have MLAs who are evangelists and believe the world is 5000 years old.
Good luck with them

Have a particular issue with the religious aspect of the DUP, particularly on their stance to gay marriage (and homosexuality in general, as I have 2 female cousins who's lifestyle choice they would disagree with).
However in NI there aren't many great options for us across the board if you take the two main parties as an example..

Been a long process to get to this point but a generation of fear politics RE Irish unity has put us in the position of having a corrupt, hands in the till, pay your mates party as the largest in NI.

Exactly. Many Unionists vote DUP simply to stop Sinn Fein achieving a majority and pushing for a unity Ireland.
