Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
First topic message reminder :
Insert funny image here, probably of a genuine Glaswegian; none of your See-an Canary nonsense here.
Insert an image summing up the pretentiousness of Luvviedom. Grant Gilchrist in a kilt eating shortbread?
Add some statistics; time elapsed, in decades, since Ickle Jonny missed a tackle. Time elapsed, in eons, since someone stayed awake for the whole 80 minutes at the Library.
Make some witty banterish comment to start the ball rolling.
See! How hard was that?

Maybe he is trying to confuse the opposition, despite the fact that they are likely never to have heard of Magnus Bradbury!
He has certainly managed to confuse us!

All we need now is for Bradbury to be named on the team sheet and the confusion will be complete!

Cheers for posting the picture RDW, that is exactly the one I meant.
I believe Dr R was helping out at Glasgow the other week so I assume he's splitting his time between the pro teams.
No idea why Doddie Weir is coming along, I can only imagine he's been invited as a guest of Edinburgh.

Ooo its a tough one!
I think the figure is too tall to be Bryce. I'm also trying to go by the ears as Bradbury has quite a set of sticky oot lugs!
I'm going to sit on the fence for this one though!

An interesting interview with Toonie in the Guardian.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/oct/19/gregor-townsend-backs-scotland-spread-net-new-players
Does not deny that Scotland are looking at the Worcester option.
Jason Robinson could have played for Scotland via a Scottish mother (his son has played league for Scotland)
Very happy to cast the net wide for new players who are already SQ, with the new rules on residence, this is the way to go. Identifies back three players as a weakness in the Scottish system.
Good to have the conversations with players and give them the options on who they would like to represent.
No chance of Scotland following Wales in an attempt to keep all players playing in Scotland, we need a bigger playing pool.

More good news on the Edinburgh and Scotland front.
Rory Sutherland is on the bench for Hawick this weekend as he finally makes his comeback. Might be a little to soon for the AIs, but if he can get a couple of games in before, then you never know.

I'd still say "Never mind I'll find someone like you" will be the incumbent at loosehead and "letter from America" needs to work his way back into position!

Re: Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
Head coach Richard Cockerill has named his side for tomorrow’s European Challenge Cup clash against Krasny Yar at Fili Stadium in Moscow (Saturday 21 October, kick-off 10am BST).
The team selection includes nine changes to the side who claimed a bonus point victory against London Irish in round one. In the back-three, Blair Kinghorn returns to action at full-back after missing last weekend’s trip to the Madejski Stadium. Damien Hoyland keeps his place on the wing following his try-scoring performance last weekend. Tom Brown rotates in for Dougie Fife on the opposite flank.
In the midfield, Junior Rasolea retains his spot at inside-centre following his impressive brace of tries last weekend. The Australian is joined by Scotland Sevens star James Johnstone. Sam Hidalgo Clyne and Jason Tovey once again partner each other at half-back.
In the front-row, Allan Dell continues at loose-head after making his first start of the season against London Irish. The 25-year-old will pack down alongside WP Nel and Neil Cochrane, who skippers the side on their first ever visit to Russia. The experienced duo of Grant Gilchrist and Anton Bresler form a revamped second-row.
In the back-row, Cornell du Preez continues at number eight following a string of impressive performances. The Scotland internationalist is joined by the burgeoning duo of Lewis Carmichael and Luke Crosbie, who makes his first start in the black and red following his try-scoring cameo off the bench last weekend.
On his team selection, Richard Cockerill said: “I was very impressed with Krasny Yar’s win against Stade Francais last weekend. They key for us tomorrow is to match them physically but also to play our own game and make sure we challenge them with ball in hand.
We know it’s going to be tough. If we’re not playing at 100% then Krasny Yar are a good enough side to beat us as we saw last weekend.”

Some interesting selections, with Carmichael at 7 and Crosbie starting. Plus Mata straight onto the bench.
Will be interesting to see how Ras & JJ get on in midfield together.
Could be brilliant, could be a nightmare.

That's a pretty strong team to be playing in a game like this and there should be no excuses for not winning well.
Good to see Carmichael get a run out, he deserves his chance. Maybe blind side is where he is going to end up, he may never quite be big enough to play at top level in the second row.
No sign of Weir again, which is a bit of a worry for him as Cockers may be giving up on him.

Fraser Brown and Big Brian out for up to 8 weeks with their respective knee injuries, no surgery required.
So Scotland lose Brown for the AIs but probably not as bad as it might have been with McInally coming onto his game at last and Turner's renaissance at Glasgow.
One more second row injury and Glasgow could be running into second row problems again though, especially when the internationals are away.

Given that Ross Ford hasn't played much lately (no mention of any injury) it does put the starting spot up for grabs - George Turner has been a revelation at Glasgow but McInally has also come into his game after a shaky start.

Edinburgh have plenty 2nd rows to loan to you - CHH may end up heading back to Glasgow short term!

I would not object to CHH coming back, he seems a fine prospect and it is a bit odd that Cockers does not seem keen to give him a chance.
This would have been the ideal game to run a few more of the kids, but I guess he is limited by having to name a squad for these Euro games. Maybe he will get a chance if, as seems likely, a few of the Edinburgh second rows make the Scotland squad.

The Edinburgh Kransy Yar game is live here:

I watched all of Kransy Yar's game against Stade and they were quite impressive in their upset win. Their scrum was very dominant in the second half.

Scottish Rugby and Edinburgh Rugby confirm that Scotland international and Edinburgh forward, John Hardie, has been suspended from duty pending an internal investigation.
As a result the player will not be available for selection for Edinburgh, or the Scotland National Team. It is normal practice with such matters that we are unable to comment further given the nature of the investigation.
Doesn't sound good that they're specifically mentioning Scotland duty as that implies this is going to be long term.
All the usual Twitter sources know nothing about it - this has come completely out of the blue.

Wonder if it's related to Bradbury's night out concussion? Wee fight between the two of them?

I wouldn't have thought so - if it had been a fight between two players it surely would have come out at the time.
This is being treated very differently to the Bradbury case too. The fact that they're not given any details hints at something criminal. I'm sure it will all come out soon!

Aye seems unlikely, as they said there was no 3rd party involved in Bradbury's thing, but at the same time they initially said it was a shoulder niggle for Bradbury so you never know.

Thankin' you sir! Been searching for the highlights.
Crosbie seems quite the prospect! He came out of nowhere.
What's the bet on Hardie's suspension? Was he caught looking at a Playboy mag during post match analysis?

Re: Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
The disciplinary issues at Edinburgh are a real worry. Cockers is supposed to be bringing in a new culture, and the absolute last thing he needs is his captain and star player being suspended for being stupid. If you'd told me at the start of the season that one of our club captains would have been suspended for being out at 3am in a drunken state, I'd have put my vintage wine collection on it being the village idiot at Glasgow.
Fortunately for Edinburgh the back row is an area of some depth, but with hindsight I wonder whether Ritchie wouldn't have been the better pick from our young guns to saddle with the captaincy.

I've got a group of mates from Southland here in London, they're huge Stags fans. It gets pretty wild down there and I've seen some pretty ridiculous things from them over the past 5-6 years. So I'm assuming it's something down that line and not something as sinister as the Paddy Jackson court case, that would be a real shame.

Some rumours on the Glasgow forum that it might be drug related (recreational)
That might fit with the level of seriousness it is being given. In fact it is hard to see what else it could be. If it was any other criminal matter, it would surely be in the media by now.

Re: Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
I know he's from Southland (and they're genuinely mental down there) but he's always come across as a very humble and down to earth bloke, so this is a real surprise.
The "good" thing is if it is drug related it probably won't come with any criminal charge and he will he given help to combat it. It also should mean it isn't career ending. And it's not like he'd be the first sportsman to have drug issues.
The more I think of it the more I hope it is this and not something more sinister!

It could be he had a "full and frank" discussion with one of his, underachieving, team-mates and when that didn't work Malkied him.
I get the sense that Cockers may well be encouraging such discussions. (If not the actual Malkying). Hardie seems the sort of player who would find being in the bottom third of the league very frustrating, and also the sort who expects others to work as hard as he does. Actually I'm surprised that Fowles and H-C don't sport permanent black eyes.

This opening sentence contains so many levels of ambiguity one wouldn't know where to begin.
OK, I've tried not to say it out loud, but I have to confess it here.
On Thursday I accompanied MrsPip to the theatre. Theatre Royal, Drury Lane for 42nd Street. It was actually a lot better than I had feared. There is one dance number where half a dozen or so chorus girls come on with huge flower petals stuck to their heads and arms and dance as flowers. Interestingly enough the rest of their costumes were skin tight diaphanous flesh-coloured body stocking type sheaths. As I was the only male in our group I bit my tongue and said nothing untoward. However Billericay Tanya caused much mirth by pointing at the dancer second second from the left and shrieking, "She's at least six months up the duff!".
Now for my confession; what I wanted to say but dared not was,
"Never mind the flowers, I'm sure I spotted a bush or two."
Am I going to Hell?

Edinburgh secure the bonus point in the first 30 minutes. Did we put out too strong a team for this one?

0-52 now, Edinburgh almost hitting a point per minute. How on earth did this mob beat Stade last week!

This train to Glasgow is full of Hibees, one of whom just asked if Motherwell is near Manchester. Outstanding.
Aye Jimbo I really do despair of you. I notice you have not spilled to the readers the other half of the 'deal with the devil' you made to get permission for Exeter. Btw was out for a beer with one of the contestant's bro last night. He tried to get me interested but apart from lovely ladies in skimpy outfits he admitted it was a complete pile of crep.
Anyway managed to meet up with proper gent Asbo on Sunday and he was asking for you and Bru. He is coming up to Glasgow on Jan 18/19 for return.

Ok, ok full disclosure time.
Next Saturday I shall forego watching rugby on the tellybox in favour of accompanying the present MrsPip to Elstree studios to be in the audience for Strictly. Which is not a Man-management seminar run by Vern Cotter but a light entertainment show featuring young women dancing in, as Schiz said, skimpy costumes. Will I spot another clump of undergrowth?
Sister Mary Joseph was right...I am going to Hell.

73-14 win for Edinburgh. I know it was second rate opposition but I can't remember the last time we beat anyone by that much so it should still be applauded.
I hope he puts a load of keen youngsters out for the return leg.

I loved the Krazny stadium, a mix of Guildford Stoke Park and 1970s Soviet model town.
I kept expecting to see Alexey Stakhanov turn up in a photo.

Lovely work from Edinburgh today, albeit against a team that the Parks/Morrison axis could have torn to shreds.
Shame about Glasgow, didn't see it but apparently Russell blew a bit hot and cold, plus Glasgow were a bit too ambitious at times against street smart Leinster outfit.
Schitz - give my best to ASBO next time you see him. Haven't caught up with him in ages.

Apparently Tovey went off early with his leg in a splint. Hopefully just precautionary.

Weir is injured as well, do Edinburgh have any more FHs?
Burleigh has played there I suppose or SHC, Kinghorn as well at a pinch, do they have anyone in the academy?
