Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
First topic message reminder :
Insert funny image here, probably of a genuine Glaswegian; none of your See-an Canary nonsense here.
Insert an image summing up the pretentiousness of Luvviedom. Grant Gilchrist in a kilt eating shortbread?
Add some statistics; time elapsed, in decades, since Ickle Jonny missed a tackle. Time elapsed, in eons, since someone stayed awake for the whole 80 minutes at the Library.
Make some witty banterish comment to start the ball rolling.
See! How hard was that?
I'll Put A Funny Sub-Title Here

Could not agree more, that looks like a fantastic trip.
La Rochelle not bad either, there fans are pretty fanatical as well.
To be honest anywhere in France is pretty good!

AH, Schiz MrsPip studied for a year in Clermont-Ferrand. Don't go there by train: a helluva journey. But a good place to visit: not the prettiest, but fun. Of course these top travel tips are on valid for 1985.
Can't wait for Saturday.
So many battles within the battle.
Time for Bhatti-Brown-Zander to show they are the Scotland front row.
Gray-Cummings vs Toolis and The Passenger, wil be closer than you might imagine.
Batman-Fat Sam-Half-Man Half -Mullet to boss the breakdown as Hamish from the glen will be all on his own.
Behind the scrums it's such ano contest that I think RichieV may make an appearance at some point just to break the monotony, unless he comes on at 8.
Can't wait... We do love the Annual Slaughter Of The Effeminates.

Ryan Wilson was limping quite badly when he came off on Saturday, looked like he was injured.
We might see the return of Richie V and/or rumours that Fagerson Jr is fit again.
Matt Smith has been getting better game by game as well, he may well be in the mix and Gibbins will play BS.

I just hope for a better spectacle than last year's Murrayfield leg - it was one of the worst games I've ever watched. Edinburgh were awful and Glasgow weren't much better but managed a decent win in the end.

Bantering aside; apart from 9-13 and 15 were Glasgow are miles better, see what I did there?, it should be a really good contest.

The Edinburgh pack will probably be something like
1 Marfo
2 McInally
3 Berghan
4 Toolis
5 Gilchrist
6 Bradbury
7 Watson
8 Mata/CDP
So I fancy our chances up front, as always. What is pleasing is that this year we actually have a backline that poses a threat! Still not in the same league as Glasgow's but at least we might be able to do something with the ball that our forwards work hard to win.

1. Bhatti (Kebble)
2. Brown (Malcolm)
3. Zander The Pretty (Shooey)
4. Jonny (McDonald)
5. Cummings ( future Warriors and Scotland captain)
6. Half Man Half Mullet
7. Smith
8. Fat Sam
I think that either Fagerson or Richie V will be back row replacement, unless Batman makes a miraculous recovery.

How has big Sam been getting out for Glasgow? He's had a few runs at 8 now. I've only seen a little bit of him and he looked like a decent option at 8 without being a top class player, but I've not seen the last 2 games.

Edinburgh and Glasgow did a 'big announcement' that the 1872 will be decided over 3 legs this year instead of 2 - was this not announced months ago when the fixture lists came out...? Not so exciting an announcement!

As much as an announcement that the 2020 1872 cup is "Going to sell out quickly"

Kind of like getting a lumber with Karen Gillan and finding out that all she wants to talk about is how when she was at school she knew this guy and now he posts all the time on this really cool forum for rugby fans.
By which I mean, I saw him a couple of seasons ago playing for Italy v France and he was the outstanding back rower on the pitch.
He hasn't come anywhere near that for Glasgow (yet) but is looking more the part with each game.

Edinburgh highlights from the weekend - I know it was crap opposition but there were some good tries there! Chris Dean runs great lines at 12.

Great news! At Glasgow, he plays with a huge smile on his face. He has slotted back in like he never left. I bet he wondered why he ever left Scotstoun.

Etiquette, George...Etiquette.
RDW and I have been going out of our way to at least pretend that the MFL pack have more meat than the plastic bag full of giblets that FES forgets to remove every year, and that their backs won't adopt their usual " Turkey waiting for the Paxo " position. You have to spread peace on Earth and goodwill to all men then tell it as it is.
P.s. Will the Warrior Nation serenade Hardie with a rousing rendition of, "He's buzzing from a White Christmas"?

Rumours abound that 30000+ tickets have been sold. Would think a healthy majority will be Warrior Nation.

Not sure if it's that many but I looked earlier and it is curving round into the North stand - probably mid 20s so far which is still a good crowd!

Re: Glasgow and The Disapproving Neighbours 18 At Last! Whose Round is it?
the three game series is stupid. All the fun of the cup was sucked out of it last year with months between the games.
This year we're back to the traditional festive double header. This should be the cup series and the "extra" game at the end of the season should just be a normal league game where Edinburgh get more league points.
part of me feels sorry for the Boris Johnsons of Scottish Rugby and the inevitable loss of their perfect record this season against the mighty Weegie Whackers.
Jimbo can claim all he wants, but the Edinburgh pack will still be stronger than the wimpy weegies. Sure the Scotstoun Softies have the better backline but its forwards that win you the game!
I'm nailing Bru's stone to the mast and going for a 26 - 21 Edinburgh win. If Edinburgh don't win this match, I'll even buy a Warriors strip!

Steady there Tiger, you're trying too hard.
The Boris Johnson comparison doesn't work; he's an elitist snob, born into wealth and privilege but with no moral compass who will say whatever he thinks will get him what he wants with no regard for the consequences, while the Warriors are a meritocracy whose core values are all about; hard work, team spirit and a recognition that the individual can only exist as part of the community.
As for a Warriors' jersey: Stella McCartney doesn't do a Limited Edition East Coast Hipster version, so you're out of luck.
The Luvies will play out of their skins for the first hour but then Kebble and Shooey , G Horne and Mata and P Horne take the match away from you.
Bru's stones will remain safely in The Hagia Sophia's handbag.

I'll give you George Horne, he's going to be some talent.
Mata though is a total 50/50. He'll either do something magic and win you the match or something wildly crazy and cost you it.

I went to see Danny Bhoy at Dubai Opera House the other night.
We were in the second row and he picked on me for having an attractive wife ("you've done well for yourself") and being a lawyer ("you're a piece of sh!t"). My only saving grace was that I was from Scotland as was 40% of the crowd apparently. Good times.

I was about to defend myself and then realised that 21st Century Schizoid Man is accusing me of using daft nicknames seriously? I mean seriously?
I saw the new prop on Warriors TV and I thought "Great we'll hear how to pronounce his surname." I got no further than realising that like a lot of very large men he speaks softly; diffidently even, as if he's apologising for blocking out the sun.
"Hello my name's Shooumblemumlbey" was all I could make out. So,the nearest Glasgow version of Siua is Shooey.
Or Shuggie if you want to be posh.

As for his comment about having done well for yourself with the beautiful Mrs GC... even sitting beside Ena Sharples you'd be punching.

Lovely venue - not too large for an opera house which makes it good for a lot of other gigs.RDW_Scotland wrote:What is Danny Bhoy doing at the Dubai Opera house of all places??
As Billy Connolly once said about the Royal Albert Hall, it must be like playing inside a wedding cake.
Jim - unlike Teresa May, Danny Bhoy is a real person:

I just checked Mr Bhoy on the the YouTube (yes before buying I asked the lad behind the counter to make sure my computer had the YouTube as well as a fitted Desktop).
Not to scare anyone needlessly but if ever the Hagia Sophia returns Bru's stones and allows him to procreate with her...that's exactly what I imagine he'll look and sound like.

the offside line have tweeted that Ayr's president and Treasurer of many years is standing down, mainly due to the Super 6 proposal. His main grievance being that the money will fall well short of what is required. Ayr are expected to bid for one of the teams.
Not exactly a glowing endorsement if the top man of one of Scotland's biggest clubs is stepping down because of it, but he has a reputation for being confrontational and difficult to work with (according to the article) so we probably don't know the whole story.
The bidding process starts tomorrow.

Just to prove the theory that no coach employed by the SRU ever really loses their job, Steve Scott has been handed the reins of the U20s for this upcoming season.
Nikki Walker and Ben Fisher are to be his assistants.
Lets hope he can do as good a job as was done last year.

Nikki Walker and Ben Fisher are to be his assistants.
Lets hope he can do as good a job as was done last year.
I did wonder what happened to him. We're not overwhelmed with quality coaches in Scotland so in a way I don't mind this if the SRU think he's still got a future in the game. Glad to see walker and fisher involved too.

From what I remember he was part of a team of about 20 forwards coaches. Fairly ineffective, but not to the same level of ineptitude as Humphries as a forwards coach.
I think we have far better coach options who currently coach the premiership but the SRU seems to have its favourites to promote, it seems a shame a lot of our best coaching talents are kept under the boot.

I think Ben Cairns should be getting chances in the next few years, he's doing a great job with Currie and a lot of players now with Edinburgh have come through under his watch there. That it's my local team and the one I played for (a long time ago) is in no way biasing my suggestion.

Johnny Gray signs on for another two years at Scotstoun!
That is the news we have all been waiting for. I always felt more confident that he would stay than FR. He is still younger mind and has time on his side and still may move on in the future, but he is not in a massive rush. He will be much better looked after in Scotland and that must have been a big factor for him as well as the pay rise he will surely have gotten.
Very good for the club, it would have been devastating to have lost FR and JG in the one season.

Jonny Gray re-signs for the mighty Warriors . At least another 2 seasons. JG on twitter:-
"This club is very special to me. It’s where I’m from, my family and my friends are here and it’s a city and a club that I love and I care about a lot. I’m very happy to be here and I’m proud to represent this city."

That's a valid point BigGee, he's only 23 (which seems incredible). A couple of years down the line he'll be a better player and more likely to secure a deal at a bigger club than he could be currently interesting.

Excellent.. I was afraid that he would leave, shows more loyalty than his brother..
If i had the choice to keep one between him and Russell, it's him and it's a no-brainer..
That being said, i don't think he has been in his best form the last couple of month, i have been used to see him play a bit better.
