The Longer Premiership Season
Gents,
I wasn't looking at the boards when the proposal for the longer Premiership season was made public. I presume it was talked, but since I wasn't here, I would like to know how everyone feels. My opinion, as you can guess, is this is a truly bad proposal. More games, and, more importantly, a shorter summer recovery time, doesn't give people time to truly heal and rest up. I think the season is too long as it stands now. Injury levels are not going down, and with the proper and late responses to head trauma, this approach seems backwards. This seems like a simple money-grab.
I read the Players Association was opposed, but have not heard much since.

Re: The Longer Premiership Season
While they are planning on a longer season I have not seen any indication of more games, merely less overlap with Int window.
Personally however I do not believe that a shortly offseason is a good idea, even if it is offset by mid season breaks. Clubs need to tackle the rampant wage indication and impossible minimum squad sizes, so we can have decent player rotation. There have been times this season when sides have been struggling to field a proper 23.

Re: The Longer Premiership Season
Good to hear from you again, doctor.
The clubs are betting players will ultimately value money over health. Some ex-pros have been candid enough to admit they would have done that deal.
It's true that the season is too compact: the panic over finding spare time to reschedule the Saracens /Clermont game shows that. The best answer is fewer games but the club's can't see how that can lead to anything other than less revenue to pay the bills.
