Glasgow are on a 2 game losing streak but unbeaten in the Pro 14. Edinburgh are on a 3 game winning streak but havn't notched up the same number of wins in the league as Glasgow.
Will Edinburgh be the team to deny Glasgow their first unbeaten domestic run in the league going into the festive period?

Take what you want from this form. It seems that recently, the away team has been getting the win! However, despite Edinburgh being in a dark dark place for the last few years, they seem to come out on top when it comes to the 1872 cup winning 4 out of 6 of the last matches.

Re: Edinburgh vs Glasgow - Leg 1 (of 3) for the 1872 cup
Interesting choices by both sides.
Not sure Mata and CDP in the same team is a great idea as I think they might be too similar, same situation as CDP and Bradbury.
Think our front row will have the edge and I imagine Sutherland will play the full 80 (assuming he doesn't pick up a knock).
Seymour against Duhan will be interesting.
I fear Dunbar and Huw against Burleigh & JJ.

So on balance when comparing the two teams:
Pack - Edinburgh edge it
Backs - Glasgow a clear winner, although not quite as vast a chasm of difference compared to previous years
Bench - Glasgow due to the powerful props and mentalness in the backs

Career tackles,
Some interesting stats for Jonny The Resigner.

Champions cup. Made 264 missed 8
6N. Made 217 missed 5
RWC. Made 67 missed 2
Other Int matches. Made 200 missed 4
Totals made 1403 and missed 30.
Beside that Grant Gilchrist IS The Invisible Man.

Don't think there's a massive difference in quality between the starting line-ups. Glasgow clearly have the better bench though you have to say, so Edinburgh will want a decent lead going into the last quarter.
Any news on when Hogg might be back?

The Saturday before xmas may not be as good a day as boxing day for a large crowd. A lot of people still running around doing stuff and travelling.
If they manage to beat last years crowd, it will be pretty impressive. Does not sound like they will be that far away.

The sevens pathway certainly seems much more of a two way street than it used to be. Both have played well when given the chance by Edinburgh this year, so good to see them get rewarded.
I would still expect them to be playing a bit more sevens this season though, with the Commonwealth Games and the Sevens WC coming up you could see them being eased back down that pathway for the rest of the season along with maybe one or two other 15s players.

A now even older Grandpappy Solomons is going to be taking over as DOR of Worcester Warriors from the start of January. Surely thats enough to put the SRU off buying the club, although they could get some great jokes into the press release when they announced the takeover. Something about buying a club with a long history...

Re: Edinburgh vs Glasgow - Leg 1 (of 3) for the 1872 cup
Can I just request that any of our Eastern Brethren who are in the vicinity drop in at Ryries?
There are two reasons.
Firstly, Schiz is usually good company when there is beer available and rugby to discuss.
Secondly, I am currently reading The Crow Girl: a Scandi-Noir thriller wherein one of the characters suffers from DID; Disassociative Identity Disorder. Basically she invents another personality who commits the "bad" acts which she cannot "normally" carry out.
Now, the Schizoid One DID say Wee Mental Tam was going to Execeterr. He also DID say Wee Mad Mental Tam took three weeks to return from Execeterr. Finally he DID say there are twelve of them on the train and Wee Mad Mental Tam is but one of them. All fine and good but when Bru and I were drinking with the Schizoid One at Sandy Park we enquired after the missing MadMental Tam and were told that he hadn't made it to Execeterr.
So if anyone fancies nipping into Ryries and counting just how many Schiz's there are it would be most helpful.

Schiz is his own alter ego.
On here he is an uncouth, profanity using, frightfully rude individual (even to his own kind)
I'm sure in th real world he's a fine upstanding citizen who just passionately wants Glasgow to win everything.
Surely???

That won't go down as one of Berghan's better plays.
Could get very messy later on this game. Watson pulled off to allow the new TH on as well.

Clear red. Looked down at brown and raked down the side of his head. He barely touched him and it looked like Berghan was giving him a love tap to say "you're offside pal"

I would have had Mata off instead and keep Watson for his workrate. Odd decision at best.

Got to agree with you there, Watson is key to disrupting their ball and slowing them down, definitely wouldn’t have taken him off

If you are going to play a man short in the scrum then you need some bulk, smallest guy has to go.
Yeh especially when you are not exactly stacked with fit props.

Lots of huffing and puffing from Edinburgh without getting anywhere.

First time I have seen SHC play for a while and it is true, his passing is terrible.
He won't be playing for Scotland again until that improves.

Why isn't McCallum on? He is a better TH than Shields.

Glasgow will be disappointed with the half - 30 minutes with a man advantage and done bugger all with it until now.

Why didn't we do another ruck then kick it out for half time??

That was bloody awful from Glasgow. Credit to Edinburgh for a huge shift though.

Glasgow are making right hard work of this. The need a serious bollocking from DR at half time. They have not won the game yet.

Russell will surely make an appearance soon - they have no spark. Neither do Edinburgh given how much possession we've had!
