I don't venture into these conversations because I hardly ever watch NH rugby. Thus I cannot make comparisons.

I thought your point centered around there being no objective way of comparing different players in different positions. I would be more worried about SH panellists not really watching NH rugby. However once the shortlist is selected the panel has to review the games they have played so at least thats something.

What else could there possibly be? Is that a real question? You have multiple rugby stalwarts from all over the globe trying to pick the pkayer they think performed the best based on a fixed set of criteria. Within that, how could objectivity not possibly take place?

Two things about Marx. He can go missing fir entire matches, and he can throw terribly. He did both today.

Heard a lot of talk about du Toit. Largely anonymous today in my opinion, barely mentioned in the loose and the less said about the lineout the better.

You think Farrell is a better 10 than Barrett? Thats strange.
I reckon Jones kind of hit the panic button selecting Farrell at 10. I expect he will revert back to Fird v the ABs.

Sexton or Ioane could win if they go against the grain and vote for consistency. Barrett will win if they go for rugby brilliance on the field. Thats how Barrett won it last year. He had the best and biggest moments of anyone. And, hes done the same this year. Well ahead of anyone in terms of genius on the field. No one gets close to him on that. Sexton runs, passes, kicks and makes good decisions well. And maybe theiyre tired of giving it to Barrett?

If it was the Bledlesloe cup player of the year Barrett would probably win. Outside of that he hasnt had his best year.

Do you want me to get banned? That's not very mature Cyril.
Did you catch the last try in the Ireland game? Poetic. 49-7 now. You got to go back to 2011 the last time England have won v Italy by more than 41 points.

Yes, same was said about two of the Lions tests, didnt seem to matter then either. Poinr is Sexton or Ioane never had a test better than Barrett either. So its all about the criteria they use.

Beautiful hatrick from Jordan Larmour
You have to go back as far as 2001 the last time England beat Italy by more that 47 points.

Something like that.
In saying that I think now Sexton will win it. One, be ause he played consistently well behind a 6N winning side, 2 because Barrett won it last two years and Ioane was nominated as breakthrough player last year, is young and has time. Faf and Marx I think have had one too many poor matches.
3, because the award partially reflects the rise of NH countries up the rankings, Ireland leading that charge.
Not saying thats the actual basis he’ll win it on but why he should%
Sexton to win for me, deservedly so.

If flair has such a big bearing on the winner, presumably Carlos Spencer won it loads of times?
Then again if consistency is the thing, presumably props might stand a chance... except a prop has never been nominated in the history of the award...

Farrell is the next Jonny Wilkinson. The guy that scores all England’s points. Don’t need tries. Is he any good at drop goals?

No prop ever stands out that much to warrant a nomination. Furlong for example is a good player but hardly a standout or revolutionary.

Nice video of Furlong sitting down three Kiwis including Read and Retallick

Its bizarre Marx got selected ahead of Furlong.

Yeah he’s a good player, don’t get me wrong. But he’s just a fat prop. Has he taken it to another level? If he stands out in two weeks I’ll doff my hat and say “hail the fatty”.

Yes he has taken the role of a tight head prop ro the next level alright. He can pretty much do it all. I wouldnt be surprised if he can even drop kick better than Barrett. He has consistently been a stand out player for Ireland this year whereas Marx has not been consistently good nor played as often. Its a very odd one.

If you havent noticed already how good he is I doubt 1 game will change your mind.

Look at the role Furlong plays in this try. Tight head props arent known for their involvement in pre planned intricate back moved.
How has Marx "revolutionised" the role of the hooker? By throwing to the other side?

I know he’s a good player, just not in the top 5. Like I say, I’ll judge him in a couple weeks. He may end up having a blinder and I’ll say so. Until then, he’s just a big fat Irish prop that is pretty good.

Point to make is that it's not a vote for best player in the world but who has been in the best form for the last year.

Sometimes I wonder if you know what you are commenting on Ebop. Marx has a fairly hot and cold year. He was missing for the summer tests and had a very poor game v Argentina and got dropped by Erasmus as a result. He also had a shocker v England.

I know you dont watch NH rugby but I thought you would know more about SH rugby. Maybe you are endorsing him on his reputation.
