European Tour - 2019
First topic message reminder :
New Year, Time for a New Thread.
EuroTour makes it 2019 Debut this week with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Classic Presented by EGA. Next week is Dubai and the following week is the New Saudi Event
Guessing that the EGA Presentation got Abu Dhabi a promotion to a Rolex Series event.
DJ and BK are playing in Abu Dhabi. So is Fleetwood, Stenson, Oosthuizen, RCB, Barnrat, Poulter, and Oleson
Despite the the Hired Guns from USA and Rolex Promotion, Abu Dhabi will have its lowest OWGR rating in 10 yrs. Pelley can't be happy about that.

So thanks for the clarification....super_realist wrote:He's not working to improve it if he's deliberating over the air density and the difference between a 10 O'clock swing and a half past ten swing. That's just plankery. De Chambeau and players of his pace simply shouldn't be allowed on the course.
He's still slower than a snail on crutches, so if he is 'trying' he should forget the psuedo science and just get on with it.
How do you know that what Pepperell claimed wasn't just a platitude?
If you genuinely want to speed up, you drop nonsense like air density. Of course there is differences in air density from venue to venue and on different days, but for that flat capped half wit to believe that he can sense that air density, adjust his swing and allow for it is absolutely laughable, just as his contention that he knows the difference in his swing between 10 and half 10 does not strike me as someone who is trying to speed up.
Who knows though, maybe he's dropped his barometer, humidity, anemometer and dew point calculations from his in built ballistic computer.
Whatever the story is with DeChambeau, he'd better get his act together soon, he's plunging in the rankings compared to where he was, he's pretty much no-showed in the two Team events he's played in and, in his immediate future, he's playing with Fowler & Finau for two days in Phoenix; two relatively fast players, certainly ones who won't be wanting to get held up by Pythagorean theories.

Re: European Tour - 2019
Bryson is a different kind of dude and sure as heck isn't my cup of tea. But I can't help but notice the list of guys with 5+ PGA tour wins in the last three seasons it's pretty short. So while it seems to me the guys kind of a nutcase, seems to work for him.kwinigolfer wrote:Whatever the story is with DeChambeau, he'd better get his act together soon, he's plunging in the rankings compared to where he was, he's pretty much no-showed in the two Team events he's played in and, in his immediate future, he's playing with Fowler & Finau for two days in Phoenix; two relatively fast players, certainly ones who won't be wanting to get held up by Pythagorean theories.
I'll be happy to criticize him when he does something worthy of it. But he's apparently making a serious effort to speed things up and with some success. I don't think Eddie would blow smoke up our a***s if that wasn't the case. So in that regard, I prefer to give him credit where credit is due.
But as far as recent results. Yeah, not looking so good for the guy of late. But I'll wait a bit for him to "play into" that new body of his before I pass any judgments. Could be the greatest thing ever, could be a major fail, jury's out.
PS EDIT: and Bryson is saying he got his slow play time for taking 86 seconds to make a putt when they were in position. Still no excuse. he might be getting better, but it appears he still needs to be getting better yet...

robo,
Don't disagree - but as for his wins, now he seems to be trying to fix something instead of going with wot got him there. Paved with good intentions no doubt.
Whatever you posted on my Farmers thread, I can't open it . . . . . . !

The Fat Accountant sharing the lead in the land of the stadium beheading. I wasn't sure he was still playing, let alone ranked as high as 104.
Just goes to show how far you go off the radar even if your ranking slides only a little bit. 104 is a highly respectable ranking but it might as well be 1004

Well done from McDool, up into the Top 50 and gets to go over the wall to Mexico in a few weeks - so long as he doesn't go to a Saudi Consulate to get his visa sorted.
Regarding super's observation about "the land of the stadium beheading", I went to an exhibit of Rembrandt etchings (I know . . . . . . ) once and was surprised to find one of a circumcision, which apparently was a spectator sport back in 17th century Holland.

And talking of the coronavirus:
Lorenzo Gagli & Eddie Molinari have been withdrawn from this week's ET action in Oman. Apparently against their will, Gagli especially reported to be quite dismayed.
Sort it out boys.

It looks as if the demise of Gagli & Eddie has been greatly exaggerated, both playing in Oman. Wonder what happened there?

From ET website
https://www.europeantour.com/european-tour/news/articles/detail/european-tour-statement-on-lorenzo-gagli-and-edoardo-molinari/
I guess they were just given suspended WD's until the test results came back.
On Wednesday, Lorenzo Gagli and Edoardo Molinari withdrew from the Oman Open on medical grounds.
Gagli exhibited flu-like symptoms and was assessed by the tournament’s on-site medical team. In consultation with the Omani Ministry of Health, and in-line with current World Health Organisation guidelines, he was subsequently tested for Coronavirus (Covid-19) and immediately entered self-isolation as a precaution.
Gagli had been sharing a hotel room with Edoardo Molinari, who showed no signs of illness, but as a further precaution he also entered self-isolation in a separate room.
On Thursday morning, the Omani Ministry of Health reported that Gagli’s test results were negative.
Due to these exceptional circumstances, both Lorenzo and Edoardo will now be reinstated into the Oman Open as an addition to the field, meaning the field size will now be 146. They will tee off together at 13.30pm local time.

Yeh it isn't difficult. But it is one of these things where you wonder why it is a DQ if the player is willing to amend the mistake. If the suits feel so strongly about it then why not give a 1 or 2 shot penalty rather than a DQ.

Very careless. You'd think once would be enough to take extra care. Twice would be unfortunate, three times is just lazy.

Re: European Tour - 2019
Just watched the finale of the Qatar Masters. 5 hole playoff between David Drysdale and Jorge Campillo. Same hole each time (18th). The first four times Drysdale put each drive within 13 yards of each other. Consistency or what. 5th time he hit a better drive but couldn't make the birdie to extend playoff. Some tremendous putts on the play off hole.

This from the Monday Qualifier twitter account about Matteo Manassero.

Bit random, but this YouTube video from 2019 came up on my feed. Go to 3 mins 35 secs. I think it's either the Dutch or Scandinavian tournament. Members of the public who have won a prize get to tee off with the pros. Wish I could hit the ball as well as this person at their age.

Kwini... back to Tony Jacklin for a moment... This is an image from 2017 that I think captures Jacklin pretty well. This was the last time I worked the event... and it's a lot better quality than the other I put up a while ago... cuz it was shot with a REAL camera.... :-) This is a quarter-size crop.

Re: European Tour - 2019
It looks like a European Tour golfing bonanza for golf fans in GB come July:
July:
22nd - 25th: British Masters at Close House
30th - Aug 2nd: English Open at Forest of Arden
Aug:
6th - 9th: English Championship at Hanbury Manor
13th - 16th: Celtic Classic at Celtic Manor
20th - 23rd: Wales Open at CM
27th - 30th: UK Championship at The Belfry
These six are fan-free but presumably TV coverage for all.
Then off to Rolex events starting in October with Scotland, Ireland (EDIT: This should be England, the Beemer, Thanks Inw), South Africa & Dubai. Maybe more?

I just went to the front page, and I took several clicks before I was able to access the field, and it was not intuitive.

Nope. Just checked for the next three days as well. During the day they are showing a repeat of the previous day PGA Tour event, and then pick up the Featured Groups from the PGA Tour feed. But it might be because they are dual ranking events with the Challenge Tour. ET doesn't really "start" until the BetFred MastersGPB wrote:Was the ET event in Austria televised in Europe.?
