European Tour - 2019
First topic message reminder :
New Year, Time for a New Thread.
EuroTour makes it 2019 Debut this week with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Classic Presented by EGA. Next week is Dubai and the following week is the New Saudi Event
Guessing that the EGA Presentation got Abu Dhabi a promotion to a Rolex Series event.
DJ and BK are playing in Abu Dhabi. So is Fleetwood, Stenson, Oosthuizen, RCB, Barnrat, Poulter, and Oleson
Despite the the Hired Guns from USA and Rolex Promotion, Abu Dhabi will have its lowest OWGR rating in 10 yrs. Pelley can't be happy about that.

John Huggan probably knows as much about it is anybody. There's not much of anything good going on for ET finances right now, but it may not be quite the disaster some people think.Shotrock wrote:With the RC postponed, and the ET relying so heavily on that exhibition event for their finances, I wonder what impact this will have on that tour for the next 12 months?

Even by ET standards, very much a tinpot tournament. Half from ET, half from CT.
Edit* Interestingly Marc Warren won without using a caddy yesterday.

GPB - European Tour is on Sky from midday Wednesday our time. Golf Channel has it listed 7am - what zone that is, I don't know. Also don't know why it's starting on Wednesday.

Looks as if it’s only at Close House. Next week is back to Thursday to Sunday. Sky showed highlights of the previous ET events in Europe. Pleased to see it’s now showing highlights of the ladies’ Rose Series, too.McLaren wrote:Is ET now running Wednesday to Saturday? I think thats what the Austrian event did.

Horsfield with 3 eagles in round 3. Is that exceptional or just very good? Super, GPB?

Truly exceptional would be if those eagles were on Par threes instead of par 5's

I thought he hung in there really well today and to finish birdie, birdie and move up to 4th was excellent. Great to hear a lot of complimentary comments from the Sky commentary team about his game and attitude. Really looking forward to watching Dale in the last round tomorrow, especially as I had a few quid each way on him on Tuesday when he was 500/1

FWiW, Horsfield's 61 was 8.36 shots better than average. Impressive round. And like Fitzpatrick's it was post cut, so that makes a little more special.
Just took a peek at next week's Hero Open field, I see Thorbjorn Olesen is in the field

Don't know who you bet with, but the one or two I know usually go to 7th place each way at 1/5th the odds. So that should be 100/1 x stake. Result!!!BlueCoverman wrote:I had a few quid each way on him on Tuesday when he was 500/1

Re: European Tour - 2019
I had a good chat with Dale last Saturday, after he had played with a few old mates at our local club. He said that he had worked hard with his coach Craig Lockwood during lockdown and was playing well and feeling confident. I wished him good luck and had a very small £2.50 each way bet with Betfair which won me £250
I played with him in the Thornton Cup which is Essex's premier club competition. We had a good team and three of the boys went on to turn Pro but Dale was always our star man. We got to the final in 2009 but Dale missed the final as he was away playing in the Walker Cup and he then turned Pro shortly after that. I have played with a few local Pro's over the years but never with anyone as accurate as Dale. So pleased for him to finish 4th and really would love to see him push on and establish himself from here.

Only seen highlights of the play but the boy Paratore done good. Somewhat reminiscent of a young Matteo Mannaserro (what happened to him btw??). Paratore also has the funniest post-shot face in golf. I enjoyed his fire and post round skype call to his mum

I'm surprised it's being cancelled given that they never have any spectators anyway.

Drop the celebrities and reduce it to being played over one course, and it should have been able to go ahead. I assume the St Andrews university halls are empty, could have been the perfect bubble for the players and organizers to stay in. Run shuttle buses to KB, and problem solved.

Being played on three courses as opposed to one would be better, or?
Maybe they’ve had cancellations from some of the celebs and decided that they had to cancel it alltogether. Dunno the financial impact of the celebs, but say they each pay 10K, it’d be +1.5M they’d have to say ciao to.

I’ve been several times and there were plenty of spectators, attracted by the fact you only have to pay to watch the final round on the Sunday. Sitting in the grandstand at the Roadhole green at TOC where you can also watch the 18th tee is a brilliant way to spend a day. Splitting the local spectators across three courses isn’t the best idea though.super_realist wrote:incontinentia wrote:Dunhill links cancelled due to corona. Bit premature no? {{{sigh}}}... I'm embarrassed that it had to be a dumb-s**t American to be the one to break the European Tour's CV19 protocol. It's astonishing how many people over here seem to think either CV19 isn't real or dangerous, or seem to think the recommended/required safety protocols we should be following don't apply to them.
Pelley did 100% the right thing immediately suspending John Catlin. And with his low status, this probably effectively benches him for a month. Maybe more. Fine with me. He deserves it.

Don't know if you follow other sports over here Robo, but the UK has had a similar incident in cricket. A player didn't obey the rules and was suspended from the next Test Match. So a precedent has been set, so not a difficult decision to make, and understandable to most people.

Well, the young Yank will have his hands full today. Kaymer's been showing some form and he's proven to be a world class golfer.
I know that's it's been very fashionable for many a US parkland course to cut down as many tree as possible. Valderrama clearly shows how a great course uses trees in a strategic and very interesting way.

BTW, another American, Tyler Koivisto, wins the Challenge Tour event. First time in 23 years that Americans won on both the EuroTour and Challenge Tour.
It is Tyler's first ever OWGR recognized Golf Tournament. There was a lot of rhetoric that Collin Morikawa should be ranked #1, because of his "TRUE" average was greater than anyone elses.
yler's true Average would be 12.00, which would put him well ahead of everyone else

And I told you that was represented on European Tour website IN EUROPE.
Blame your server or whatever, but it was reported on the European Tour. You're acting like its some sort of conspiracy that because a Septic won they didn't bother reporting it.

Sure it was corrected, after I tweeted at them about their error.
There are systemic errors with the EuroTour website.
Look at this post from Pedro on page 11 of this thread from about 7 weeks ago
nd FWIW, I think the PGATour website is MESS as well. Have said it several times on these boards. The PGATour profiles are a major Pain in the Arse to navigate and so are the Stats pages. And the Stat pages are nearly impossible to mine data.

I just went to the front page, and I took several clicks before I was able to access the field, and it was not intuitive.

Agree GPB. And why all the irrelevant content, huge font size and neverending scrolling? I used to read the golf news, now I just visit occasionally for the leaderboards (if I don’t use my bookies app).
I’d like to see how their website statistics has developed over the years.
