Boss is still here, just, but a hostile takeover bid came in on Friday, which is being fought against by the board, so an interesting week ahead...

Sounds exciting.
I had a pretty nice weekend.
I was on rugby thread over the weekend and got up for the match. Good mix of humility and bitterness from the usual characters.
That "miaow" poster takes it so seriously. He wrote a few essays in the hours just after the match... what an expert, yeah?
A bloody know-all like collapse/guns&germs. Boring bunch of tw*ts... but they're sort of amusing at the same time, aren't they?

The mouse of wall street.
Rugby was annoying, didn't help I was watching it with a Scot.
Football fell in OK for me this weekend though, and the fact that I chose not to watch a cup final, in which the only incident of note was a petulant keeper, made it all the better.

Did you mention Paris?
Yes, I've never seen a goalie do that before. The coach looked quite annoyed.
Do you think he'll let Arrizabalaga kepa da goal next match?

I note the Afghans destroyed Ireland in some cricket match too. Quite a few sporting upsets recently. SL winning 2 tests in SA springs to mind.

I am not sure that Afghanistan beating Ireland in a cricket match is an upset these days, but I will bow down to your knowledge on cricket.
The Windies always amaze me as to how bad they are on the road, but actually very decent at home.

I guess Ireland has gone a little off the boil with what seems like the same players they had 10 years ago. The Afghans, as you say, are on the rise... but the bloke who whacked 160 or so looked like the little fat kid in the park near here.
Not sure the Windies are that great at home actually. I think they lift their game more when England tour in particular.
I blame the pedalo incident for the their recent woes. And perhaps a touch of voodooism happening in the bushes around the hotel pools.

Fair dinkum, I guess I only really pay attention to the England games, so will be skewed in viewing the results.
May have to swing over your neck of the woods with work in the next few months, some place called Gladesville near Liverpool...
Obviously I have to check your whereabouts so as not to breach CC rules.

Gladesville is not far from me at all... but Liverpool is miles from there. Gladesville is just north of the harbour. Liverpool is about 30km away in the direction of Canberra. Do you mean Parramatta?
Don't worry about the CC rules. PM me closer to the date and we can catch up. I'll take you on a tour if you have time or an NRL match if you like.
I've already met about 5 or 6 people in person from this site. English, Irish, Scots... even Welsh. We all got on like a house on fire.

Gladesville is known for a large mental hospital... I think it's still there. I hope rick's work doesn't involve that place.
It's a long way to come to sort out a legal dispute.

CC meet up, I'm in.
It is not at the mental hospital, though I always forget to scale when looking at maps of Oz, what seems to be nearby here is miles away over there, I used to live in Canada and the same thing applied, nipping to the local shop was a 30 minute drive.
I will keep you updated as to my when's and where's.

We should get Flipper along too. Give him a break from the steel town... maybe head up to "Summer Bay" (Palm Beach) or to some even nicer places around here.

Yeah, I just had a group of 4* from Port Macquarie stay here over the last few days. They were here for the Eminem concert on Friday night.
Nice folks. We were talking about the missing tourists. The guy said the beach where they went was notorious for a dangerous rip. Also, it's on a point on the coast where sharks tend to gather after a long stretch of beaches in a different direction. The locals are all very wary of it and most avoid it. The next natural stop for them is the headland at Byron Bay... where there's also been a spate of shark attacks.
*One of them was a dead ringer for a young Donald Sutherland... à la Dirty Dozen. Funny teeth, scraggly beard but a friendly smile. Think he has a drinking problem but he was pretty cool and didn't do too much damage to himself (or chez Joey) considering he had a drink in his hand every time I saw him.

I’m away from the steel, thankfully. Think that’s Port Kemble way. Moving closer to Wollongong central this week

To be fair, the steelworks is now about 1/10th what it used to be. Much less pollution too.
.
Wollongong has changed its character; there's more emphasis on educational facilities now which is great but there are still some 'scary' areas where you wouldn't want to be. A bit bleak and suburban. The nicer areas/houses are probably just north of the city and in the suburbs nearby.
Closer to where the escarpment meets the sea or within easy walking distance to the Uni or wherever you're based would be the desirable location.
Good to hear that you have softened up a bit... and becoming more tolerant of foreigners in a foreign country. But still always keep up your guard just in case someone tries to take the mick.

I don't charge much for the wildlife around here, Jules.
The poor little thing was probably trying to escape the floods. I'm just glad it ended up in Edinburgh and not Glasgow. Clever reptile!
