I wouldn’t of said zero. I only witnessed Barcelona lose 3-0 and completely capitulate at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma, only 12 months ago.

Liverpool, particularly Robertson and Fabinho, behaving like a bunch of thugs, though they've got one goal back.

Just seen Liverpool 3-0 up.
From duty’s zero chance now to every chance.
Hope they go through.

I hate to say this Man Utd fans but tbh, Liverpool are currently showing more will and determination than Man Utd did.

A shame that Liverpool are through, but that's football for you. Always expect the unexpected.
Liverpool did well to come back without Salah and Firmino, but were also fortunate that Robertson and Fabinho didn't get the red cards that they deserved in the opening twenty minutes, and that Messi fluffed a couple of chances he would normally bury.

They’re an annoying bunch.
Great comeback though. Barca should be ashamed at their game management and I can imagine Valverde will be given a beating

Re: Champions League/Europa League Knockout Stages 2018/19
Credit where its due to Liverpool. They went out and unsettled Barca with an early goal and a bit of roughing up. Maybe got away with things, but exactly what they needed to do, so had to try it. If it had been a game where the ref blew up on any physical contact, then Barca would have beaten them.
And some really quick thinking for the winner, that deserved to win it.
How ever much it pains me to think of Liverpool winning it, they deserve it over the course of the two games. 3-0 flattered Barca, 4-0 didn't flatter Liverpool.
And great atmosphere at the end. Would have been a great experience to have been in the ground after the final whistle.
Now c'mon Spurs, so that I can support an English team in the final

Let's see if Tottenham have anything left for the second leg against Ajax.
If they were to come back, it wouldn't be the strangest story of the season!

2-0 Ajax and that should be the tie over. Such a lovely team to watch when in possession, though Tottenham's defending has been dreadful, particularly Alderweireld and Trippier (who looks injured).
Spurs have had chances, but haven't taken them.

Oh my, another of the great comebacks is on. It's a silly season. Seconds after one of the finest saves I've seen this year, Ajax don't clear, and Lucas nets another accurate finish. Ajax paying the price for doing a Barcelona.
2-2. Tottenham need one more.

Re: Champions League/Europa League Knockout Stages 2018/19
Oh wow. Three excellent finishes from Lucas have completed yet another astonishing comeback. Incredible. The form book ripped up again.
Ajax paid the price for sitting back. Lloris made some brilliant saves. Llorente had his best game in a Tottenham shirt, Alli was exquisite. A highly entertaining game, rich in drama, played in the right spirit. Just as football should be. A shame this wasn't the final.
United's comeback against PSG, Liverpool last night, Ajax thrashing Madrid, Porto's comeback v Roma, Juventus's turnaround against Atletico, Tottenham's crazy game in Manchester, now this. The most entertaining and most bizarre Champions League season I've ever seen. Tottenham just won't go away in this competition, they were practically out after three games in the group stage, now they're in the final.

Good chance now of having English clubs in both European finals. Agree that this has been the most sensational Champs Lge season.
To think that Spurs had one point after three group-stage matches and needed late winners against PSV, Inter and Barcelona.

Re: Champions League/Europa League Knockout Stages 2018/19
Remember Tottenham were all but out of the competition after only claiming 1 point in their first three group matches and being 1-0 down to PSV Eindhoven with 12 minutes left in the 4th match. 2 late goals (89th minute winner) kept them mathematically in the running to get out tf the grout. A tight 1-0 win over Inter at home and a 1-1 draw in Barca, allied with PSV holding Inter to a draw edged them into the knock out rounds courtesy of the better head to head over Inter.
Only the round of 16 they've had it easy, beating a very disappointing Dortmund side. Then the crazy match against City, where VAR ruled out the goal that would have knocked them out, and tonight...

Feel for Ajax, punched well above their weight on the way here. Suspect they'll get picked apart similar to Monaco a couple of years ago now.

Re: Champions League/Europa League Knockout Stages 2018/19
CL had become pretty stale for a no. of years, very predictable, and the same draws unfolding every year. Think the CL has benefited from Ronaldo’s decision to leave the Bernabeu, and pretty much bursting the Madrid bubble. Helped open up the competition, and level the playing field.
Few of those young Ajax stars looked like rabbits in the headlights last night, but I’d still expect that squad to be ripped apart, similar to Dortmund’s, a few years ago.

One person who won't be too happy about yesterday's result (and Tuesday's) will be Gareth Southgate.
The Champions League final is five days before England's semi-final against the Dutch.

I disagree. Let alone the physical tone of the long season that stretches into where they need rest, but also a load of emotionally drained players coming to England games with less to give.

What about Van Dijk or Wijnaldum, or any other player from one of the other competing Nations League semi-finalists? Quite embarrassing, and stinks of getting excuses in early. They will deal with it fine.

Nathaniel you are embarrassing yourself, if you don't rate Guardiola because he failed to win the Champion League at Bayern or Man City (yet) then you don't even warrant having a debate with.
You lack a basic understanding of game of football.

Far from ideal though, particularly in terms of preparation. Could be about 1/3 of Southgate's squad missing most of the build-up to the game, and then having to recover from a potential two-hour match in Madrid. I suspect a few England players will be out with injury.
Southgate will be even more thankful his side got the later semi-final!

Arsenal and Chelsea both through to the Europa League final, so it'll be total Premier League domination in two of UEFA's marquee club finals, and for the European Super Cup.
Less fortunately for Arsenal and Chelsea, they have to go all the way to Baku to play this game of football.

It isn’t great for their conditioning either? Not excuses, normal facts of life. Way people think about athletes is so outdated. Not machines

Arsenal absolutely pathetic. So wasteful in front of goal. Chelsea typically pick apart Arsenal. Arsenal are arguably facing a more difficult recovery than Manchester United.
Also Europa League isn't 'a major honour'. It's a secondary trophy

Manchester United have the benefit of unlimited resources to get pretty much any players they want. Arsenal are skint.

For me, it's more major than the League Cup, but the name "Europa League" sounds like sheet. Go back to the old name of UEFA Cup, sounds a lot more prestigious.Nathaniel Jacobs wrote:Arsenal absolutely pathetic. So wasteful in front of goal. Chelsea typically pick apart Arsenal. Arsenal's main issue is Kroenke is not interested one iota in putting in money to revamp the squad, and is probably quite content finishing 5-6th with the occasional top 4 venture on a good year. Certainly whilst he's footing the bill to build a huge stadium in Los Angeles, that comes first...and for Arsenal I see another summer of little activity in terms of money spent
