The Crucible is alive again to the sound of cues smashing into the cueball for the 2019 Snooker World Championship.

On Day One the champion Mark Williams got off to a steady start to lead Martin Gould 6-3. Ding Junhui also leads 6-3 against Anthony McGill and Neil Robertson is home and hosed leading debutant Cypriot Georgiou 9-0.

A tight tenth frame is won by a fluked pink and that will be a great fill-up to James Cahill. He trails 6-4.

Mark Williams who trails David Gilbert is in hospital after complaining of chest pains. I hope it's nothing too serious.

Quality not the best between Cahill and Maguire to be honest. Errors from both players but Maguire pinches it to lead 7-4.

Cahill takes a scrappy 12th frame but he still trails 7-5.

Cahill battling away and holding himself together better than an angry Maguire and takes the 13th frame to trail 7-6.

And Cahill warming to this and takes the 14th frame and we are level at 7-7. Maguire needs to settle and concentrate.

Much better from Maguire and fires in a break of 83 to re-establish the lead at 8-7. One frame left to play this evening.

Maguire upped his game in those last two frames to take them and leads 9-7 overnight. Still too inconsistent across the board to worry the likes of Ding who probably awaits in the next round if he gets there.

I am presuming Mark Williams will be fine after his chest pains for this morning's session where he will resume trailing David Gilbert 5-3. On the other table Gary Wilson resumes leading Mark Selby 9-7.

Thankfully, Mark Williams' chest pains were not heart-related and he comes out for his second session against David Gilbert.

The first frame of the morning goes to Mark Selby. Gary Wilson leads 9-8.

David Gilbert stretches his overnight lead to 6-3 on the other table.

Selby in again courtesy of a cracking long pot and is in the embryonic stages of a maximum. Five reds and five blacks.

Plays on a blue off the sixth red and finally breaks down on a break of 46. Beginning to look strong now Selby.

But just when you think Selby is getting on top Gary Wilson bounces back. A great break of 52 gets him right back into frame. Safety now breaks out with one red on the table.

Selby wins the frame to level it at 9-9.

Mark Williams pulls a frame back and trails David Gilbert 6-4.

Gary Wilson certainly has bottle and composure but he is beginning to shell chances now to Selby. He misses a decent chance after running out of position. Golden chance for Selby to take the lead in the match.

But Selby cannot seal the frame. Wilson now has his own golden chance. Big frame this. Meanwhile, great pressure pots from Williams sees him pull back another frame. He trails 6-5.

And Wilson takes the opportunity and goes back into a 10-9 lead. That will hurt Selby.

Selby is unflappable. Back in with a chance in the next frame and on a break of 44 and counting.

Top break of 66 but Wilson still not out of it but surely this is 10-10.

At their mid-session interval Gilbert leads Williams 7-5.

And 10-10 it is at the mid-session interval.

Gilbert favourite to go 8-5 up.

And GIlbert takes the frame. He cannot be behind going into last session. He leads 8-5.

Wilson refusing to yield and comfortably takes the 21st frame and leads 11-10.

Mark Williams hanging in there to win next frame. He trails 8-6.

David Gilbert though stretches his lead out to 9-6 with one frame lift in this session. A must win for Williams I reckon.

Always a shame to watch a once-top player like Mark Selby struggling against an opponent he would have dominated in peak form. Wilson a long way from being a title contender, but he's taken enough of the opportunities Selby has coughed up to leave him on the brink of his best career win.

It may be a 'classic' in terms of drama and tension, but not in quality.

And Wilson gets over the line with a neat break of 92.

Selby out. He loses 13-10 to Gary Wilson. Great performance by the Geordie.

Cahill back level at 9-9. John Higgins leads Stuart Bingham 1-0.

Selby hasn't been in best of form - so no surprise really - although the BBC are labelling it a big surprise.

A massive 19th frame this. Maguire must win it I reckon.

And Maguire will be mightily relieved to win that frame. He leads again at 10-9. Higgins level with Bingham at 1-1.

Great steal from Bingham. Pinches the third frame and leads Higgins 2-1.

Very scrappy frame again which Cahill takes to level when he looked like losing it. 10-10.

A scrappy start to the match on the other table but Bingham leads Higgins 3-1.

Cahill flukes the last red and holds himself together to take the frame and goes into a 11-10 lead. The first time he hhas led in the match. What has Maguire got left?

Stuart Bingham takes another scrappy frame and leads John Higgins 4-1.

Maguire replies with a break of 72 sees him seal the frame to level it up at 11-11. Gritty stuff.

Higgins wins yet another scrappy frame but he still trails 4-2. Drama by the bucket loads on the other table. Cahill was in on a break building towards a frame winning clearance when a foul was declared by Jan Vanderhaas. Frame now ciuld go either way. Massive.

Now Cahill in again with a chance and pots the black but cueball goes in the centre pocket. A long pot by Maguire follows and has a golden chance to seal the 23rd frame.

But Maguire misses a straight forward pink. Cahill needs the five colours to win the frame.

But Cahill misses the brown.

Maguire takes a nerve-wracking frame that had more swings than children's playground. Maguire leads 12-11.

Incredible stuff. Cahill in again and on a break stuns into the pack when potting a red and sends the pink into the yop left corner pocket. Maguire has a chance to wrap it up here but the way this has gone I am sure Cahill will get another chance.

Meanwhile, Higgins pulls another scrappy frame back. Bingham leads 4-3.

And Maguire misses. Cahill plucks out a long pot but runs out of position. However, bags a red in the middle pocket and has a chance to level it up. More drama. If Cahill wins this frame to make it 12-12 they will return after this evening's matches to play the decider as their time is almost up in the afternoon session.

And Cahill gets it done to level at 12-12. Is their time for the last frame to be played this afternoon? The answer is it will be played to a finish now.
