The Crucible is alive again to the sound of cues smashing into the cueball for the 2019 Snooker World Championship.

On Day One the champion Mark Williams got off to a steady start to lead Martin Gould 6-3. Ding Junhui also leads 6-3 against Anthony McGill and Neil Robertson is home and hosed leading debutant Cypriot Georgiou 9-0.

And he does go 7-5 up with a century break.

Kyren Wilson comfortably takes the 13th frame in two visits. Gilbert leads 7-6.

A tactical and tight frame on the other table. Whoever pots this last red takes it you'd think.

That long tactical frame is finally won by Ali Carter although Gary Wilson had his chances. Carter pulls it back to 7-6 to G Wilson.

Gary Wilson in and looking good to put another frame on the board. On the other table Dave Gilbert is again in and scoring big in a frame that Kyren Wilson had a chance in.

Gary Wilson bags another century and goes into an 8-6 lead. He cannot be behind going into tomorrow's final session.

Kyren Wilson going through the mill. He's getting chances but snatching at them and Gilbert is scoring heavily. Tight frame now this frame 17 and it could be a key one as both have had chances.

Wow. Gilbert in an impossible snooker somehow flukes the red. Wilson buries his head in his towel and the frame has gone. Huge. Gilbert leads 9-6.

On the other table it is a scrappy frame. Both have had chances and Carter has a narrow lead as safety play breaks out.

That long scrappy frame is taken by Gary Wilson and he leads Ali Carter 9-6. On the other table David Gilbert is moving closer to a first Crucible semi-final. He leads Kyen Wilson 10-6 overnight. He has been far more consistent in all areas than Kyren Wilson today.

Gary Wilson going for one shot too many in the last frame of the day and gifts Carter a golden chance to end the day 9-7 behind.

And Ali Carter does take the final frame of the day. He really needed that as he was beginning to lose his cool. Gary Wilson leads 9-7 overnight.

This morning sees Neil Robertson and John Higgins resume all square at 4-4. On the other table Gary Wilson resumes 9-7 up on Ali Carter and they play to a finish.

Yep, Higgins will be delighted with 4-4. Robertson on the other hand will wonder how he's not come away with some kind of lead from that session. .

Agreed, Higgins far from his best, but still able to hold Robertson. Expect the Scot to be a lot better today.

I'd expect Robertson to seal the frame now. Carter in first with a lovely long red on the other table.He really needs to win that frame.

A break of 51 from Carter puts him in the boxseat.

And Robertson takes the frame to go 5-4 up. Carter does take the frame on the other table to stay relevant at 10-8.

Carter building some momentum here. In again and looking set for a one frame visit frame-winning break. He is set to haul it back to 10-9.

Higgins with a break of 50 but out of position. Time for some safety.

Higgins in control of the tenth frame. He has a 37 point lead with three reds left on the table and more safety breaks out.

Gary Wilson edging towards taking the 20th frame. Robertson battling his way back into this frame. Higgins still a warm favourite as safety breaks out again.

A fluked red for Gary Wilson gives him the frame surely? 11-9.

Robertson in with a sniff of a steal. This could be big.

Long frame this. Down to the colours and Robertson has the upper hand in the safety.

And Robertson has the steal to lead 6-4. That could prove huge.

Absolutely massive frame for Robertson to win. His safety play so far has been impeccable.

7-5 at the interval. Like yesterday, Higgins is getting chances but not taking them. The tactical battle between the two is an absolute joy to watch. Vital that Higgins closes the gap in the (likely) three frames that are left this afternoon.

Wilson got through 13-9. Astonishing run to the semi-finals as he started off in the first qualifying round...but I can't see him getting close to Trump.

I never saw the end of that session but that is quite a turnaround from John Higgins.

Gary Wilson through and I like his temperament - very good. I don't think he'll be intimidated by Trump but I just think it will prove one hurdle too far against Judd.

I was surprised that David Gilbert got the job done so comfortably in the end. Kyren reminds me of Mark Allen. A great potter but just needs to add more substance to his game.

Tonight sees John Higgins resume 9-7 up on Neil Robertson and Judd Trump looks set to take an 11-5 lead into his final session against Stephen Maguire.

Maguire off to a flyer and takes the first frame of the evening with a century break as he looks to make the score respectable. He trails Judd Trump 11-6.

Robertson missing too many chances. Higgins handed a golden chance to take the first of the evening.

Hmm clutching at straws there was Robertson and it looks to have cost him the first frame.

Trump looking more settled in this frame and on a one visit frame winning break. One frame away from victory at 12-6.

Robertson looked set to clear up but breaks down on 50. Still looks like 10-8 here soon to Higgins.

And another chance for Robertson and it 10-8. Trump on the verge of wrapping up a semi spot sealing a 13-6 win against Maguire.

Robertson seems to just be coming out of his bad patch. He's back in again in the next frame with the balls spread nicely. Is 10-9 on the cards?

Now it is Higgins going through the ringer a bit. A couple of really loose safety shots and Robertson in again and sniffing a 10-10 scoreline at the mid-session interval.
