First topic message reminder :

Kwini

It amazes me that a professional footballer can end up one footed. Just practice with your weak foot every day.

I remember spending a summer playing with only my left foot in the garden. Came back next season two footed.

Of course but it's not a productive use of time is it?
Wasting 4 weeks (out and back) for one conference/publicity stunt. What's the point?

Why is anyone giving this layman any time anyway? She is no better than those Extinction Rebellion hypocrites. Spreading hysteria with nothing to actually back up their claims.

Dyna - reasonably points out a few inconsistencies/issues in Thunberg's approach. Third.

JAS in second. An eloquent dig at the right and how the recent(ish) left were more right than left (and more wrong than right) and how we all deserve the shafting by some stuck up so and so's that we have brought down upon ourselves.

However, Super has (again) taken the title through sheer diversity of vitriol. By 8.10 am. On a Friday. The best day of the working week.

Climate campaigners (all c**ts), Scottish Football (all c**ts, run by c**ts, c**ty coefficient, no c**ting future and Corbyn (the "C***"). All repeats, but executed with such power and hatred that his journey to the dark side is now complete.

Drives, if taken by the 3 posters this morning:

Dyna - 195 yards, weak fade into first cut right.

JAS - 250 yard draw, lovely shape, well executed, just ends up stymied behind the one tree down the left.

Super - Wild axeman smash 320 carry, lands on concrete "50 to green" distance marker, kicks on so wildly it shoots through the back of the green and onto the car park beyond the boundary of the course and OOB. Architect of course is a c**t, greens staff are c**ts for not having rough before the OOB, captain is a c**t for not parking in his space behind green to enable ball to bounce back in to play.

Brilliant!!! A weekly one of these would rival Kwinis :-))

super_realist wrote:Jas it is laughable that you think that some random ranking places Celtic on a par with Milan.
There's not a single person in the entire world who would  think that ranking actually reflects reality.

Celtic are a million miles away from Milan.

It's also hilarious that you are blaming the SPL and not Rangers for the SPL being a one horse race. It's like a fat person blaming the government for them being fat.

Laugh away but the rankings are based on coefficient points won in competitions...what should they use instead? Supers cherry picked Theory of negativity?

Getting tired of repeating this one as well,
1. Rangers used EBTs to pay some players in the late 90s/early 00’’s. Not really unusual as Celtic paid Juninho by the same method and many premiership clubs did EXACTLY the same thing.
2. HMRC moved the goalposts on the legality or otherwise of EBTs and Rangers were singled out as a Test case to try and establish case law
3. The case was prejudged by bankers accountants BEFORE it went to court which sent Rangers into administration (as it subsequently turned out a crooked bunch of administrators) and eventually into liquidation.
Step 1 was Rangers responsibility, they shouldn’t have flown so close to the sun, they got burnt
Step 2 is something that should irk all of us, that have a business. HMRC are tasked with an honest, fair, consistent and even handed approach to collecting revenue for n behalf of all of us, however from time to time the actively indulge in the role of financial terrorists who pick and choose targets at random.
Step 3 was just utterly reprehensible

So the whole sorry saga rumbled on, as frequently happens when financial sharks & crooks smell blood and a carcass, they descend on it. The management of the business (not the team) I n the first 3-4 years after the rebirth was absolutely lamentable and to be honest I still don’t think it’s 100%

However....and this is the bit you quite clearly don’t want to grasp. The Scottish football authorities were placed in a dilemma...
1.Moral high ground with an income and quality crash

2. Compromised morals but limit the damage to income and quality

They chose the former, many would say quite rightly but there was no real gain in doing so and Scottish Football reaped what it sowed from 2012 to 2017. I mean, trying to be altruistic in today’s modern football world...how naive can you get??

You’re analogy about fat people blaming the govt is a bit daft.

It’s like catching a burglar but instead of giving him something like a 30 day stretch you give him life in prison, because if some had been in the empty house he may have killed them.

And to be clear (because it’s not in your analogy) Scottish football shot itself in the foot, it chose the punishment not Rangers. Rangers may well have committed the crime (still debatable it was a crime when committed) but the subsequent punishment (which they did not choose) is what has caused the damage (yes Scottish football has other flaws but the punishment meted out to Rangers turbocharged the decline and EVERYONE in Scottish football suffered, including Celtic.

What do you think would happen if Celtic played Inter? It would be a massacre.
They've just been beaten by bloody Cluj for goodness sake.

So Rangers got a life sentence? You are hilarious Jas. You can't blame the SPL for football clubs having no business acumen or grasp of the law.

What punishment do you think they should have got for gaining an unfair advantage for years?

The SPL isn't running things any better than the clubs are. No wonder Scottish football is getting worse and worse.

Nope, you’re still missing it. Ok one last go...
You own a Race event and are responsible for promoting it and generating income from it. It’s pretty much a 2 horse race although there are usually 10 other horses in it.
The 2 big horses have quite a rivalry, a bit edgy but their rivalry attracts big crowds and relatively decent revenues.
Then one day you discover that the jockeys of one of the big horses is taking back handers. What did you do?

Obviously you shoot the horse!!
The other big horse becomes bored winning everything becomes lethargic and can’t compete abroad anymore, crowds dwindle, the lesser horses become emaciated and starved, the stables become dirty horrible pits of despair,  nobody wants to watch the race anymore...sound familiar?

But you defend to the hilt shooting the horse....because it was the “right thing to do”

I'm well aware of your analogy, but you can't allow members to flout the rules and expect no punishment.
Why do you think that the huns deserve special treatment for what basically amounts to fraud just to preserve what little commercial value an already terrible product had?

Your arguments are why the majority of people hate the old firm. You think you should be treated differently and are hiding behind the consequences of Rangers being relegated as a reason not to do it.
It's as bad an excuse as Coogan claiming he needs to keep his licence for the comedy value of Partridge in his Japanese Mercedes.

Celtic might well have been at fault too, but Rangers did it with dozens of their staff.

I never said I don’t like Capitalism. The post war McMillan/Heath type one nation capitalism whilst maybe not my first choice wasn’t damaging. Thatcherite/post Thatcherite monetarist neoliberal capitalism is a society damaging equation that utterly turbocharges and accelerates income inequality and will eventually lead us back to either 18th century serfdom, revolution or war or a combination of all of the above. I could tolerate one nation Toryism, I cannot tolerate these crass privileged Frak/right wing ideological zealots who will quite happily lie through their teeth and destroy the fabric of decent society as long as them and theirs continue to accumulate wealth at everyone else’s expense and toil.

The analogy would still be the same with the other big horse.

With one of the lesser horses, it would be slightly different, punishing one of the lesser horses may attract a bit of outrage or sympathy but it wouldn’t really materially affect revenues or popularity of the race would it. To be fair the race is in dire need of a new Fergie or McLean type jockey to come along and shake things up.

Mac, you're the one being stupid. If you had any comprehension you would realise that I don't deny climate change, I don't even deny a human influence.
What I don't accept is the media insinuation that all climate change is because of human influence or hysterical posturing that there is an impending crisis or emergency. Care to give any examples of such an emergency?

So far I've heard from ER that London will be underwater in ten years, that this might be the last generation and that we will soon resort to cannibalism. Patent nonsense.
There's no evidence to support any of this.

Climate change is undeniable, It was seems human impact on climate change is undeniable. The rest is just down to people not knowing what will or will not happen, and this turns into very stupid arguments between people who don't know whats going to happen getting annoyed with each other making guesses. Both sides as daft as each other.

Who's denying it Ben? Who's denying the human impact? I haven't seen anyone credible deny any of those things.

It's the claims  that come after that that haven't been demonstrated yet. Where's the evidence there's a crisis? As far as I can tell the majority of the world will see very little difference and a very small proportion MIGHT experience some increase in the effect of weather upon them. There's also the alarmist claims that "we have 12 years" to sort this out, well sorry if that's the timescale, it's all ready too late because greenhouse gases take YEARS to reach the parts of the atmosphere where they have an effect. If you fart today, the methane will not have a greenhouse effect immediately, but these people are too thick to know this. So cut all greenhouse gases today and we'll still be stuck at todays greenhouse effect level for decades to come as they are effective for a long time, and take a long time to get to where they are most efficient at trapping heat.

It's also the hypocrisy that annoys me. Why are the likes of Prince Harry, Leonardo Di Caprio, Emma Thomson etc telling us how WE should live our lives and that WE need to reduce our carbon footprint. No, YOU need to reduce your carbon footprint Harry, DiCaprio and Thomson, mine is just fine thanks. Harry has just taken his THIRD private jet of the week. So get stuffed Harry, you don't know what you are talking about and you can't lecture any of us about anything because apart from David Attenborough and Judith Chalmers, he's probably got the biggest carbon footprint in the entire UK.

It's also the ridiculous actions by that annoying little twerp Thundberg. She makes such a big deal of not flying, but is happy to take a boat MADE FROM OIL DERIVATIVES, an incredibly energy intensive process to convert to carbon fibre and a boat. How's she getting back by the way? Cruise ship? What's the carbon footprint of that, given the friction and lack of efficiency of water vessels, can't be an efficient way of travelling. In fact, some reports say cruising is THREE times less green than flying. Also, much of her entourage, including her dad are reportedly FLYING back. So f**k what she thinks too.

Also, this rentamob makes such a big deal of contributions from air travel, well it accounts for just 2% (yes, two effing %) which is about the same as the contribution from data stores, downloading, streaming and data transfer (which is increasing far quicker than air travel), yet I bet all these hypocrites are still using the internet just as much as ever and have never even considered this to be a contribution to CO2. CD's were actually considerably more clean than our current downloading demands.

There is no consistency in their arguments and if these doom mongers actually believed what they were spouting, they'd be living in a cave somewhere because you CANNOT live a life as we would like without causing harm to the environment. Picking and choosing what to target is dishonest and disgraceful.

Why don't they ever talk about the release of C02 from the likes of concrete? Simply because it doesn't have an exhaust pipe and that's the problem. Unless you can see the pollution coming from an exhaust pipe or smoke stack to them the pollution simply doesn't exist.

The first thing Mac is for idiotic shrieking millennials and deadbeats pretending that the world is on its knees and it's going to die in 15 years to stop spreading their nonsense. Spreading panic and hysteria is not going to help anyone not least because it isn't true, and spreading lies like "this might be the last generation" is not remotely helpful to anyone. I did some calculations on that and if a generation is 20 years, then climate change would need to kill 1,000,000 people A DAY to make that happen. Completely impossible.

If I was going to make some suggestions though:

1. Have fewer children.
2. I can't remember the figure, but apparently a staggeringly high number (i.e. more than two thirds) of journeys are less than 3 miles. Walk or cycle.
3. Better home insulation, environmentalists NEVER talk about how badly our buildings are insulated. It's all about transport and industry to them.
4. Less use of concrete. Concrete is a major contributor to CO2.
5. Get rid  of mainstream cars that are older than a certain age, i.e. 8 years old. Old classics are permitted.
6. Fewer hypocrites telling us what to do and then jetting around the world. i.e. Greta, Harry, Leonardo, Emma Thomson etc
7. Eat less meat
8. Eat more locally grown food and eat by what is available by season.
9. Tax fast food and smoking out of existence.
10. More use of ground source heat pumps etc.

Just for fun, i'd also tax beards, hipsters and one speed baby blue bikes because they are ridiculous and the world needs rid of them.

The UK is only 1% of global CO2. global air travel is about 2% of travel, sea about 2%, so if this rentamob of poorly informed morons wants to actually make a difference they should be lobbying America, Russia, China and India as they account for 51% of CO2, yet I don't see them barricading themselves against the embassies
of those countries. I wonder why?

Climate change isn't always a bad thing and people need to realise this. I doubt anyone would claim that the end of the last ice age was a climate change event that people were lamenting. Lots of countries will benefit greatly from climate change. It's not all doom and gloom.
There was symbolic mourning for a glacier in some country the other day, it's part of a process. Scotland and much of Britain used to be covered by glaciers, is it better to live in now or not?

By the way, who sets the optimum for what the climate should be?

Guys Super is pretty close on this UK is very much small scale in the grand scheme but we can do our bit.I started an insulation business in 1978 and the basis was to save people money now it would be the environment.
Growing populations around the world rate survival above slightly warmer weather.
Not that long ago we had glaciers almost down here to the middle of the country. When our course was under construction we pulled out huge chunks of rock pushed in front of a glacier .You could easily damage a wedge bloody ice age !!

super is spot on.

Higher "sin" taxes as well apart from cigarettes; all alcohol, all sugary drinks, ammunition, the lot.

And you don't need trade protectionism to tax products based upon the distance they travel to market.

Greater incentives to recycle, compost etc - why can Europe do this so effectively, yet the US, for instance, chooses not to?

Amazing that the US constitutes 5% of the world's population yet consumes 30% of the world's resources and generates 30% of the waste/trash.
UK & Germany generates only about 1/3 of the waste per head of population that the US does.
But that also says UK & Germany must still do much better.

Trump thought he could relieve Denmark from the financial burden of subsidising Greenland. Doh It's not that simple is it.

With that being said, the Chinese have already started investing in the Greenland mining industry. And with increased independence for Greenland I hope they don't go the same way as many African states, selling out to the highest bidder.

But they want. Like Scotland. Catalonia. Slovakia. Yugoslavia. You name it.
If they want independence, why would they want to be owned by America?
Greenland get heavily subsidised by Denmark, not sure how they would survive without them.
Scotland doesn't want independence by the way. Yugoslavia doesn't exist. Catalonia isn't a country, bit like Cornwall or Yorkshire asking for Independence.

Wonder if Elton John will make it OK by throwing some cash at a London based "carbon neutral" firm which salves the conscious of the rich and famous.
I would imagine that someone at that company is getting very rich indeed and like many "charities" I'm sure that "admin" costs take care of the lions share of any guilt induced donation.

I'm sure that all the extra security required who would have had to accompany the Royal hypocrites on a pleb's plane really made it carbon efficient. Can't imagine there was fewer than a dozen in the security detail.

Why are these planks pretending to be green when they clearly are not?

I'm indifferent Mac. She appears to be a brat, but she's nice to look at.
She's just another celebrity hypocrite though like Saint Greta, Di Caprio, Emma Thomson, Elton John, Chris Martin, Prince Harry etc.

Try thinking?

Dyna: he didn't even get the bit correct about pork pies to Thailand etc either, by the sound of it. Then again, what can one expect from an inveterate liar like Johnson?

Why would it Mac? Serena might have a disgusting attitude and be a terrible loser, but she's clearly the better player out of those two. I couldn't really care less about women's sport Mac, just as I doubt you do. On the whole it's not really worth watching.

The chickens are coming home to roost. If a business was run as badly as football clubs were they'd have been closed years ago. Bolton and Bury have done exceptionally well to last as long as they have. No doubt they won't be the last, there are too many football teams.

Strange thing football business man can run a business but not a football club.Folk turn up every other week and give you money sounds pretty simple.
Back to the pork pies they would kill a pig for meat at Christmas and then wrap the remnants in pastry as a meal they could take out on boxing day to watch the hunt or horseracing .
If you are ever in the area Melton is a good place for a day visit.Majority of product is eaten here and ireland

Dunno about Bolton, but the Nevilles have been bleating about the "disgrace" there; why don't they sell their Salford investment and buy Bury? Otherwise Bury will be dead and buried.

Pretty sad all round.

Been to Melton.
Got back today from Oakham just down the road, where the wife’s family are from.
Good few days.

Are there too many? Probably yes but are there many more than say 30 years ago? in terms of league clubs no, there are roughly the same but has society changed such that that number is no longer sustainable?

Every now and then a club will fold, it’s happened before and will happen again. What makes it a bit more curious at the current time is that there are billions being poured into the game like never before. In football, just like society the money gravitates to the haves and the have nots are left to struggle for the crumbs. The haves can be profligate spending millions on whoever they like every 6 months.
The Boltons & Burys of this world have to cut their cloth accordingly, they are a million miles from challenging for top honours. They can only eke out a survival and look on in envy.
The gap between the haves (upper class) and the have nots (working class) is huge and getting bigger. The ones with the real dilemma are the middle class (those that yo-yo between the premiership and the Championship). For them to bridge that gap and become an established “have” is getting more and more difficult (without dodgy money from a dubious benefactor). They have to speculate to accumulate ( take on debt) to realise their ambitions, if they gamble and miss,  it can do real long term damage. Leeds are probably one of the best earlier illustrations of this, Bolton are more current example, down a level perhaps.  Personally I think there will be a lot more Bolton’s and Burys.

People should be asking the questions now. Is this the way we want football to go? Are we happy that the top clubs are becoming so so distant from the feeder clubs and from the grass roots? What will be the long term effect of that?
Not advocating Socialism for football, just illustrating the effect of free market capitalism on the very fabric of football and how it kind of mirrors society.
