Champions League/Europa League 2019/20
First topic message reminder :
Good start for the Premier League clubs in the Champions League - Liverpool wasting a load of chances and losing 2-0 to Napoli, and Chelsea missing a penalty and losing at home to Valencia.

Barca need change at all levels. But these things filter down rather than up. a lot of money been wasted on managers/players while clinging to players past their prime because of past glories.

Sign me up for a mini tournament of one off ties every year, this is much better

Man United dumped out of the EL. Not a great week for English clubs

In the rather odd position of the CL 19/20 semi-finals being played on the same day as some of the interminable qualifying rounds for the CL 20/21.
Both semi-finals look pretty clear-cut to call, but Leipzig will be hoping PSG bottle/choke yet again, and Lyon have already sprung two upsets in the knockout round so far.

Don’t think anything epitomises how weird a year this has been, as much as PSG just casually strolling into a CL final. I just can’t take this competition serious this season.

Bayern get through 3-0 against Lyon. Lyon had two really good chances in the first fifteen minutes, but couldn't take either. Might have made the tie interesting, but they deflated massively after Bayern's first.
Fancy PSG to win the final.

It is worthless this year but then again the Champions League hasn't really meant anything for a while now.

Alright grumpy pants
It's not the first time a major tournaments had most of the big names on one side of the draw. If you had said at the outset of last year's tournament that Spurs Vs Ajax was a semi final you'd probably be thinking the same.

Bayern are a strange side, in a good way I’ll add. Irresistible going forward but their defensive setup has issues. Boateng was average many years ago somehow still in the starting XI. They spend €80m on Lucas Hernandez and he’s bench warmer. Niklas Sule was supposedly their ‘cornerstone to a new era’ yet he’s not a starter either.
PSG will fancy getting chances but they are equally poor defensively. I’d probably fancy Bayern 3-1

Sevilla get their crown back beating Inter 3-2 in a thrilling final. 6th Europa league for the Spaniards. Redemption for Lopetegui

Bayern Munich European champions for the sixth time, beating PSG 1-0. Former PSG man Kingsley Coman with the only goal.
€400m duo Mbappe and Neymar anonymous. Money can’t get you that big trophy.
Munich first team to win European Cup by winning all their matches in a single campaign.

Very good game, though the quality lessened drastically in the second half.
PSG will be full of regret. They had the chances to win the tie, but failed to capitalise.

Strangest season in memory ends with the best team winning it.

Not sure that can really apply to this season.

I 100% get what you’re saying but I’ve got no doubt uefa will be spin that line until another club matches the achievement.Soul Requiem wrote:Jeff Navarro wrote:Bayern Munich European champions for the sixth time, beating PSG 1-0. Former PSG man Kingsley Coman with the only goal.
