England: 8 Nations
First topic message reminder :
Not sure if theres already a thread kicking about but seeing as the prem is back I thought it may be nice to argue over the numerous players impressing.
As ever it seems to be scrum half, flankers, centre and full back are where there are chances for people to force their way in. Can't say I've ever been able to call what Eddie Jones thinks but Willis and hill must be tempting him to widen the player pool. A number of scrum halfs have started well also but has the time come for Spencer or Robson? Thought Maunder was very good too and Mitchell showed great flashes.
I'm at a bit of a loss for full back based on the games last week. Furbank looked anonymous and let's face it Daly is a Jones favourite.

Kindly stop with the up-and-unders. If God intended us to play Rugby in the sky, he would have put grass up there...or something like that.

Re: England: 8 Nations
This as been a good start for England dreat try by youngs, but Itali fighting back hard and really giving England a tough game.
England need tp start well in the second half and keep Itali at bay or there could be an upset on the cards

It looks like we can't be bothered. Some players are so laissez faire. Fair play to Italy who are giving it the beans. Get Robson on and Thorley on for May who looks nowhere near his 2019 form.

Re: England: 8 Nations
Good to see the younger players from the u20s finding places in the senior squad. Just like France their u20s have been doing better than previous years (not comparing them).
They need to work on bringing them through their 2 pro teams which is what Scotland recently have done better at.
England to win comfortably in the end but Italy's young players are a good foundation to build on.

Any biased punditry/commentary going on? That's far more important than the game itself.rugby racing and beer wrote:Duty281 wrote:Kindly stop with the up-and-unders. If God intended us to play Rugby in the sky, he would have put grass up there...or something like that.

Lazy analysis. England took the points when they might have been expected to go for the try. They're showing them respect, Italy are simply playing well. They look better than Scotland and Wales did this afternoon, that's for certain.
I expect England to come out with renewed purpose and rack up the points with more ferocity and focus.

Pretty uninspiring half, the cancelled game will be brought up as a reason but they should be better than this

Totally agree with SCWs comments at half-time. 22 kicks by England in the 1st half.....what is that all about? How boring and negative we have become.

Probably given that Clive Woodward's on, but I have the game on mute. It's also not really relevant when it comes to discussing the Six Nations and disenfranchisement of respective parties. I'm sure you know this, though, and are just pretending to be silly.

What do you mean? I've just explained that it's not a relevant concern unlike in the Pro12/14. There's no pattern of deliberately favouring England or any other single party participant in the Six Nations so, no, I don't expect to be able to inform you or anyone else of evidence of preferential bias. Well, nothing more than John 'Let's Talk About England' Inverdale anyway...

Italy not switched on. Clever from Youngs. Two more tries for England to get.

Tom Curry has history for going through late on the kicker. Poor, spiteful act. Pointless, too.

Re: England: 8 Nations
That's another absurdity in the laws. The tackled player has jumped at the last moment, thereby winning a penalty for being tackled in the air. All ball-carrying players should jump at the last moment.

He's playing a damn site better than he's been playing for Tigers. I hope but doubt this will win him some time with those that complain about his inclusion on a regular basis.
England's discipline has been appalling. So many silly penalties. I do like the Hill/Itoje combo, so niggly and aggressive.
Farrell has been anonymous outside that lovely break for the first Youngs try. His lack of creation is a serious problem for the team at the minute.

Italy playing really well. Need a cutting edge. Tbh they should be at least level on the scoreboard if we're talking about open play performance. Just can't turn that gritty determination in t points.

I think the lack of rugby due to lockdown is really showing in both this game and the one earlier. There's a lot of wrestling up front but neither team really able to put flowing rugby together.

Good try but it's very unreflective of the game overall. Italy's lack of cutting edge and England showing their edge despite not playing particularly well.

Re: England: 8 Nations
So are England terrible or are Italy maybe not as bad as we thought. Like Scotland 5 years ago if only they could get a try or two with all the possession in key areas.
